If this is a 2015, they really need to look look at it being a PS3/PS4 game instead of just PS3. I know they are looking at install bases, but I won't even be looking at PS3 games once I get a PS4.

I fully expect to see PS3 rpgs still trickling out in the west in 2015, Persona 5 of course being the biggest. The same thing happened with PS2: Persona 3, FES, 4, Rogue Galaxy, Odin Sphere, GrimGrimoire, Soul Nomad, Wild Arms 5, Ar Tonelico, etc.

Remember, Persona 4 came out in the US at the end of 2008, two years after the PS3 was released.

It does bug me a little because the game seems to be fairly open world, with the battles taking place in the open world, so as such I have no idea how they're going to pull off 60 FPS battles in this one.

Ah yes, that is a concern. I hope they scale back what they need to in order to maintain good FPS.

Checking wikipedia, it looks like Devil Summoner 2 and Mana Khemia came out in 2009, and that Sakura Wars came out in 2010(!).

By that logic we'll be getting PS3 games into 2017.

Can't get excited about a last gen game, especially if it's Japanese so the US release will be that much later. Hopefully they port it to the PS4 -- really do enjoy this series.

Edit: I see the poster above mentioned simultaneous release, but 2015 is absurd anyway. There's very little chance I'll have a PS3 still by then.

If they are going more open world. Do you think you will be able to see the other characters as you travel? Like they follow behind you. Like Xenoblade?

This looks really good.

So it looks like combat will be done on the overworld? During that part in the trailer where Slay is attacking a monster, it still looks the same as the world he was just running around in instead of a transition to an arena type area.

I wonder if this means your active party members will run around in the world with you and attack enemies.

That would be really interesting since IIRC this will be the first Tales of game that doesn't have a scene transition for combat. Can't wait to see more (on the 21st).

If battle transitions are seemless they would probably have to do that. I didn't really see anything in the trailer that indicated the transitions would be seemless, but some people apparently did.

But if there is no scene break for battles, where would they come from? They'd have to be on screen with you. Well at least in fields and dungeons

Unless there is only 2 characters in the game total. You choose between male/female. Lol. That wouldn't work either.

Maybe you would have to engage combat mode, similar to Xenoblade. But we still don't know if it's seamless or not so we're getting ahead of ourselves.

Really happy to learn that this will be localized.

Xillia 2
Symphonia Collection

And now this.

I know they all basically use the same formula with some modifications here and there, but I enjoy the games.

Kind of amazing and wonderful that this is simultaneously announced for all regions. Even more amazing that this doesn't happen more often.

Well done!

Oh, people think battles won't take place in arena fields? I don't see them doing that.

Yup which was why I was never going to sell my PS3. Im shocked people didn't expect it.

It's great that they've already announced localization and if it comes next year that will be 3 Tales titles releasing in the same year that's a first.

Why not? Its a change of pace and can add something new to the series?

You can see the background world during that short battle sequence. Tales of battle areas are always sectioned off but it looks like the shrubs to the right side would make it an uneven area which indicates to me (in addition to that camera angle) that the battles will take place in the open world setting.

There's always a chance that we could be wrong but given what's been shown so far I don't think it's an unreasonable assumption to make. Battles without transitions have been done before (Chrono Trigger/ Final Fantasy XII to name a few) so it will be interesting to see how it works out.

Also it looks like the sidestep from Graces was back.

I'm assuming that Graces must have scored pretty high on that survey they mentioned concerning how they made the battle system.

As it damn well should, Graces f has one of the best combat systems in... whatever year it released in.
