Extremely good news for Tales fans everywhere and especially for those of us in the West. Being a Tales fan in the West this generation has been fairly nail biting, especially after the release of Vesperia and Dawn of the New World when it was looking like we might not be getting anymore titles.

Way to go, Namco! I am excited to play this and to see how it all comes out.

Didn't think Xillia ran that well, personally. Especially compared to previous games.

Yes, Xillia had some huge framerate drops in some battles when there were a lot of effects going (and by "a lot of effects going" I can name some boss battles with 2+ bosses). It was really noticeable, it probably hit 15-20 fps (while battles are usually 60).

Also it looks like the sidestep from Graces was back.

I'm assuming that Graces must have scored pretty high on that survey they mentioned concerning how they made the battle system.

More Graces combat mechanics only means a better Tales of. Obviously Graces must have scored pretty high, it's the best 3D battle system in the franchise (I've played Abyss, Vesperia, Graces and Xillia, that my experience xD)

So much ps3 next year.

Day one.

Yep, holding my PS4 purchase is going to be easy seeing how many awesome JRPGs are coming to the West next year and early 2015.

This seems like the best spot to ask: I want to jump into the Tales of series and am looking for the best place to start. Is it like, say, Final Fantasy where I could play the games in any order without worry, or should I go back as far as I can and start that way?

Never got into these games as I prefer turn-based, but I would like to support the console-JRPG cause.

The fact that this is a worldwide release is pretty groundbreaking in my opinion. I think it signals that we can expect this for all future Tales games going forward.

Every time they reveal a new Tales game, they show just one character fighting, and people get worried that it'll be single-player combat. Every single time!

To be fair, didn't Graces take a long ass time for them to show more than just Asbel? Haha. Could be remembering it wrong.

And nice to hear that it's announced for worldwide release. :D

Motoi Sakuraba confirmed! :D

I hope the tracks are longer and better. Xillia had short songs. I wonder if Sakuraba will be composing on his own again. Hoping for a lot of epic and beautiful songs. I wish Tales of games had the budget for live instruments.

Also, I hope the English voice casting and acting improves... like a lot over previous games, save for Vesperia. The english voice recording needs improving too. It sounded like the characters were talking with something on their heads in Xillia. It didn't sound very natural.

Oh and the dialogue too. I usually can't love a character that cusses at all (the "D" word counts as a cuss with me. I can still like these characters though). I know the dude ain't going to keep it clean cause they never do outside Nintendo games, but here's hoping the girl will be more like Estelle on that front.

I like both character designs.

The world could be interesting I guess. The dragon at the end of the trailer didn't make me feel anything.

Hoping for a great game. Looking forward to it. :D

Do you have an Xbox 360 or PS3? Or both? I recommend all games that were released on generation 7 consoles. If you have to choose one, Vesperia is my overall favorite.

I don't know how I feel about the character designs for this one. I'll reserve my judgment for whenever I get to play it, though. In any case, this is all I can think of when I see the title:

Yes please ^_^

Anyhow, I love the Tales series. One of the few JRPG series I really follow.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I'm kind of getting a Final Fantasy IX vibe in a way. Hear me out...

They are talking about going back to their roots and what not. I can see that. Seems like a "classic" medieval/ fantasy setting with dragons and all that. Logo colors of white and blue remind me of royalty and knights. Slay (ughhhh) and Alicia look they could be royal knights with their outfits. I like it.

The open world aspect and seamless combat is really intriguing. Hopefully they can pull it off. Baba mentioned that he wants exploring to be a focus. Fill it with interesting things to explore and I'm so on board. Optimistic about this one. Yay Namco!

I have to applaud Namco Bandai for actually supporting and growing the Tales franchise in the west. I never would've said this a year ago.

This is utterly baffling. Confounding even.

Like Asbel all over again~

I prefer Yuri's combat style. Sword in one hand, knuckleduster/iron glove/claw in the other.

I want more Sakuraba jazz, but the setting doesn't seem to lend to it.

That name probably sounds cool to Japanese speakers, but all I can think of is Zesty Italian dressing.

Semi-bland looking male character, excellent looking female character, generally pleased with the character style and proportions. Somewhat worried about "open world" and "larger zones" -- I prefer detailed, well crafted zones which is harder to accomplish the larger they get (see Xillia's horribly generic fields).

Looking forward to seeing more about the battle system. Loving Xillia's right now.

Regardless, Enthusiasm! Took an entire generation, but the PS3 is finally getting a nice JRPG library.

Sigh

Tales names are getting dumber by the generation.

At least, this gives me some of those feeling that Symphonia gave which is awesome.

Its a logical and educated guess.

Might be wrong though. In the PS Blog, Hideo is quoted as saying its the first time they've simultaneously announced the game for both Japan and the west. And it will also be the first time that a Tales game feature both an English and Japanese audio track.

The bolded is what makes me think there will be a simultaneous worldwide release.

But the bolded was about Tales of Symphonia HD.

Well I hope you guys get your JP audio, but they better not slack on the english dub. I'd like the english dub to be great.

I would too, I have nothing against a good dub, but I at least want the option, especially when they almost always have one main character with a really annoying VA.

I just like the dual audio option for a Tales game due to New Game Plus. It's pretty nice being able to hear the cast in a different language while going through the game a 2nd time.

Namco pls

If you ever want to beat Square Enix in the dumb name contest you're going to need to step it up

wasn't expecting waking up to a new tales game! What a nice surprise I can't wait for a better trailer

I always go for JP voices if they're available, but I also want the dub to be great.

Symphonia/Abyss/Vesperia all had great dubs. Graces was good but could have been better, and Xillia was a hit or miss with certain characters...

The only Tales game I ever played was Radiant Mythology, but since they have such an awesome named character I will have to Day 1 this.

Hmm. I think some of the other names they trademarked were better. I'm still really excited though, open world with seamless battles would be amazing!

Game looks good. AA seems to be better than Xillia's atm. The main worry I think will be whether or not the fps will remain stable throughout the battles.

For some reason I felt that Graces had a significant drop in quality of the dub. I mean, sometimes it's hard to evaluate when you have to analyze a performance with cheesy writing, the dialogue they have to work with, but some of the early skits in Graces especially really felt like the actors were just reading off their cards or whatever. All of the others had good to great va work, even if the dialogue is questionable, imo.

I can't help but think of these everytime Zestiria pops up in my head:

Would you consider this to be a good entry point for someone that's put off trying Tales games since forever? Strictly PS3-only, I mean.

Import Vesperia :o

I guess Xillia is fairly representative of the series. Even though the work put into it seems limited, I think the Symphonia re-release would be a great spot. It will probably feel dated but its the game that got me and surely a lot of others into the series.
