PC Gamers Assemble, Let's Demand PC Ports From Sega!

I would double-dip on 3 out of 4 of OP's suggested games if they were put on Steam. Retweeted, and upvoted the reddit threads for ya.

You don't think there will be a PS3 or 360 emulator in 15 years? Also consider that it could be available digitally for PS4/PS5 or Xbox Two/Xbox Three.

Still hope it comes to PC though.

15 years from now the companies might have folded with no one left to do ports or they might simply not consider those IPs valuable anymore to bother with them.

A PC port done today has a good chance of being playable in 15 years though.

Some suggestions on Steam Communities to go next for trying to give more attention to this:

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance actually seems to have a thread already on this.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Community: Plenty of Sega fans there that have been asking for DLC from different franchises for a long time.

Both would likely be very interested on Bayonetta and Vanquish to an extent.

I have some more extra avenues but I'd like to save them until we see if this gets more organization into a petition or something instead of just twitter.

I notified Riley about the Twitter movement and he/she has updated the OP accordingly. I will start a thread in the Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed later today unless someone beats me to it.

After almost 13 years we're still waiting for a OG Xbox emulator.

So far and according to one of the Dolphin devs no one has written yet an emulator of a system with programable shaders and it seems it will be that way for a long time.

PC gaming has been "dying" for like, 15-20 years now lol.

Well, to be fair the beginnings of the previous gen were a really bad times for PC gaming. I'm not ashamed to say I believed at the time the market was maybe doomed (and again thank you Adrian Werner to have shown me light in these awful times).
Now ? All things considered and with a grain of wait & see approach, it smells like golden age all over again.
PC didn't die, it evolved.

Another thing: buy MGR for Steam so that you might influence the success of the game on the PC platform. If a PG title on Steam does really well, then this might give SEGA the hint that there is a audience for PG titles on Steam which could lead to Vanquish and Bayonetta (and maybe other PG titles!) to get ports as well

PlatinumGames is a outstanding company and they don't get the kind of sales they deserve, because most of their games are considered niche - and niche games have a home on the PC if they are priced fairly and ported decently. So, let's show SEGA that we want their games with the tweets and buying a PG title!

I already bought three copies on Steam to show my support, I would gladly have paid £30 for it so I guess it kinda evens out.

I hope you guys are successful and actually buy the games if they're released here and don't complain about it like in the MGR thread.

Vanquish and Bayo would be fantastic.

Let's get more arcade classic ports like:
Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder
House of the Dead IV
Outrunners
Planet Harriers
Virtual-On
Sega PC had plenty of titles ported to PC, some of which I managed to get like the original House of the Dead, Typing of the Dead, Vritual-ON, Virtua Cop and Panzer Dragoon.

Everthing that had a PC version before could probably get maybe not the HD re-release ala Homeworld but at least a slight update and a low price tag. If Square put up the entirety of the Tomb Raider games on Steam, so SEGA could dig up their old Sega PC output. they olympically ignored it when they have the Genesis/Dreamcast era stuff in.

The new Afterburner is by Sega too? That already has an XBLA port if IIRC. That could be another candidate for a quick conversion.

However, I think others are right: one step at a time. Let them try with 1-3 titles, perhaps Vanquish and Bayonetta can test the waters.

Damn, it would be awesome to have the entirety of Virtual-ON on PC... CYBER TROOPERS, VIRTUAL! Gotta love those old redbook audio CDs and keyboardy-driven OSTs.

I bought MGR and about the general negativity, you people were there when the whole Dark Souls petition started? The official Facebook account was swarmed with haters refusing and denying the PC version until the very end.

Yet it happened. I say Dare, Dare to believe!

edit: Oh my god, I had no idea about Valkyria Chronicles, that looks fantastic and right up my alley.

Or, you know - we could both buy the game and complain about it in hopes of the developers learning from their mistakes and/or patching the game?

This one's nice:

@Grief_exe You guys should tottaly add AFTER BURNER CLIMAX to that list! #SegaPCPorts

And this is true.

From all games Sega has in their catalog, I never wanted Binary Domain PC.

It's still puzzling how Sega decided to release Binary Domain on PC instead of the far superior TPS (Vanquish).

Well according to this SEGA blog post there was a demand for a PC version of Binary Domain.

Gary Knight said:
As well as the excitement generated by Binary Domain in the console press we were seeing increasing numbers of players asking for a PC version. So we listened and we delivered.

If you look at the reception to Rome 2 I don't think this is a valid point.

I'm not sure what point you think I was trying to make, but the reception of the games don't come into it. The only point I was making here is that this Japanese games publisher has a funny way of saying they don't "give a flip" about PC gaming - by owning two near-PC exclusive developers.

I don't know what the critical reception of the game has to do with that or what changes it.

What are the usual or average costs of porting a former console middle-budget game to PC? Keeping in mind the costs of old assets needing to be located/uncovered, old code and knowledge need to be revisited and reconfigured, extensive QA, marketing, distribution, etc.

I find it a bit hard to believe, when as far as I can tell even among people into this hobby a lot of them were barely aware this game existed in the first place.

Well, it has guns and robots and bros and is generally more western looking. I'm sure when they were showing it around there were a couple of people who suggested they should bring it to PC.

I just want Phantasy Star Online 2 to come to the west.

But some other sweet PC ports would be cool too.

Hideki Naganuma teased the possibility of a JSRF remake a while back on Twitter.

He also tells people all the time that they should let SEGA know that they want a JSRF port. I feel like if they're not working on a JSRF HD yet we can definitely motivate them to by letting SEGA know that we want it. It's certainly more likely than getting them to release games like Yakuza or Resonance of Fate on PC.
With fan campaigns like this it really helps when the people behind the games support the fans, and it seems like Hideki is doing just that:

Man, this thread has my hopes up. I've always wanted to give Vanquish and Bayonetta a try. And I don't feel like I gave Resonance of Fate a fair chance when I Gamefly'd it a while back.

RISE FROM THE ASHES SEGA!
