Has Watchdogs lost all of its momentum for 2014?

Being from Chicago, Watchdogs was definitely on my list of games to see this year. Oddly enough though I feel like the game should have came out last year with all the press and promo around it. In addition, we really hadn't seen much from that game besides the same demo or mission over and over again.

Now with its delay, which is looking more like it will drop sometime in the late Summer or early fall, it has almost lost all my interest. Does anybody else feel this way? It was one of my most anticipated games now I couldn't really care much about it even if it did come out early.

It's lost all interest because it went into lockdown after the delay announcement. There hasn't been a shred of news, photos or videos since November from Ubisoft at all.

I imagine they'll give it a big marketing push going into Spring, and hopefully do enough to feel separated from the Titanfall/Infamous crowd.

I think it lost momentum when we started seeing more of its game play. It was a good decision to rework it a bit

This. They'll ramp up marketing and info dumps again to bring the hype back.

Gonna echo the statements here. I went from planning to pick it up at launch with my ps4 to forgetting that it was even in development

I think GTA killed my interest for a bit. Hopefully they're going to wow us with something unique early in the new year.

when they lock a release date for the public, they will restart the marketing for the game.

Personally, i can't wait to play it. love open world games, and this one has a great premise around it.

I was really hyped for it and would have bought it this year but next year along with my backlog means bargain bin for me.

At this point in time yes.
All that hype as a next gen release down the drain. Though as stated earlier a moth before release ubisoft will probably go nuts with the marketing to get the hype back up.

The initial hype was pretty big but then it was a lot more gun tooting, car driving than I had hoped. Wanted more undercover-phone-detective-hacking-stealth-mystery-open-world game.

I wouldn't say "all," but certainly some. It went from a must-buy for me to a maybe amidst the influx of games that I'm looking forward to in 2014. However, a friend pre-purchased it for me as an Xmas gift, so I guess I'll be playing it regardless.

I thought this when I first heard the news of the delay. But if Watch_Dogs can find a nice little drought month during the summer to drop in, I think they can easily make plenty of noise for the game. I mean right now, very few games are being launched in the summer, so I could see a lot of gamers buying it purely off having nothing else to do.

Surely there will be a media blowout as we start approaching the game's release.
On an unrelated note, I'm betting The Division will get same treatment as Watch_Dogs - to be pushed to 2015 in order to make room for Assassin's Creed in Q4. I don't see them releasing three very big titles in one year, especially two of them being new IPs.

Would have been the perfect launch title for the new consoles but now, as it stands, it's coming when the games are starting to come for these consoles and I have really lost interest in it. Oh well, at least I got to play Pirates the Game.

Still no estimation of a release date. I don't think it will drop until June at the earliest IMO with it colliding into fall.

Yeah, because I heard it was a hot mess and not coming together well.

Shame because I was super hyped for the Wii U version of all things.

Its been weird to go from getting a trailer a week for every game they have to silence from ubisoft.

I wonder when we will hear from it again. If the rumours of it being pushed to the holidays are true then I wouldn't be shocked if it goes dark till E3. I just want to know how busted it was when they decided to push it back.

Jesus. I was so hyped for this game. You just reminded me that it exists.

Pretty much. I'd say most of it's momentum was being 'the game to buy' went new consoles hit shelves. It was going to stand apart and now it's going to have to try harder just to be seen.

I get the feeling it's being delayed until September 2014. Probably won't have much more then a new trailer anytime before E3. Another thing though... I'll be interested in seeing if they bring it out for 360/ps3 still. Perhaps they're overhauling just the nexgen versions ?

Ubisoft has brilliantly gotten away with reskinning the same game for like 7 years and have been selling millions of copies every go around.

People were going to catch on sooner or later and now Ubisoft doesn't know what to do..

I started feeling a lot less hyped after a few of those preview vids. If they had released it immediately after E3, I think tons of people would've bought it in an instant. Now they have to rebuild the game's momentum from scratch, which might not be a bad thing, but it doesn't help.

As a fellow Chicagoan I was hyped as well to run around my city in Watchdogs, but then it became the game of diminishing returns. The more I saw the less I liked. Then the news of not being able to fly vehicles seemed like a poor decision in the wake of R* adding fun back to GTAV(arguably). The delay just about killed all the hype. The game has to impress all over imo. MP needs to be impressive and not some Ass Creedish take on the Watch_Dogs universe. Idk, I'm losing faith in this title Ubi. :/

I was going to pick it up when the new consoles were released, but after it got delayed it just went into the back of my mind and I haven't given it much of a thought since. It's completely lost it's momentum but they'll market the hell out of it next year to try and get hype levels back up. Chances are it's going to be something I'll pick up when it goes cheap now though.

I forgot about it nearly completely until very recently when i was reminded of it.

All the hype i had for the game is nearly nonexistent at this point.

I'm kinda glad they held it over. I wouldn't have given AC4 a second look if Watchdogs made it out on time and I'm enjoying the hell out that game now. Nonetheless when it is released I'll give it a go.

At this point they need to re-announce it with a new message. Given the huge delay I really have to wonder what the current gen ports are gonna be.

Assuming they don't can the wiiu version at the last minute, I'm in for a copy of that now, whereas it would've gotten overlooked in favor of zombiU at christmas.

I forgot about AC5. I think watchdogs will drop summer and AC 5 fall sometime. The division oddly enough has my interest now. I think you are right about it dropping 2015 though, or some strange "delay" pops up.

Definitely not as excited as I once was. We'll see when it releases. I can see it releasing with a bunch of other titles I'm interested in and me completely passing on it now.

Pretty lackluster showing besides that original showing. They really need to step things up and blow everyone away. Given how far along the game was at the delay that probably isn't going to happen.

Zero compelling gameplay. So far we've seen:

* Walking slowly
* Running
* Driving a car
* TPS with cover
* Melee combat that looks like a bit QTE, or entirely scripted animation
* Selecting things from a drop down menu ("hacking")

That's it. Story and setting also look very uninspired. There's no way this will last 10 years like Assassin's Creed.

Their only hope is that Watch Dogs 2 is as big of an improvement as AC 2 was. Seems very unlikely.
