Have you toggled with HDMI Content Type settings yet?
Try and force something other than the default.
Ok GAF I have decided to skip 4K and go to a Panasonic panel. I am now trying to decide on the 65" VT60 or the 60" ZT60. Both are the same price which is my biggest concern...either would look huge in the space I have. And both are a major upgrade to my current 720P Pioneer 43" Plasma.
I am leaning towards the ZT...
Hey guys, i know a lot of you in this thread have a panasonic plasma and i have a question about 1080p pure direct (present in last years gt50-vt50 models) and guessing this year models too? I have already tested the ps3,xbox one, the wii u and they all support 4:4:4 chroma. This is the image i used to test it:
So the 1080p pure direct feature actually does 2 things : activates YUV 30 bit, and 4:4:4 chroma mode. I don't care about the yuv part, i only care about playing with 4:4:4 chroma in rgb mode. Unfortunately this is where the problem starts happening. Since the consoles output a RGB signal, turning the 1080p pure direct does enable 4:4:4 mode, but messes up the colors because it converts RGB->YUV->RGB again. This is the image i use to tell the difference:
Pay attention to Simon's hair color, now switch 1080p pure direct on/off to see the difference. You will notice that when off, the hair will look red (as it should) with the setting turned on, you will notice the hair acquires a reddish-orange color to it. Chadb mentioned this in one of his reviews
Has anybody found a solution to to activate 4:4:4 mode in RGB without messing up the colors? Maybe using a component cable and outputting a 1080p signal?
Bummer. It was worth a try.I have all my hdmi contents set to: photo because it cuts out any enhancements. Graphics adds some type of edge effect. But nothing... hdmi content does not solve the problem. The only way would be to plug a component cable into my wii u and hope it outputs to 1080p, but idk if this tv could output 1080p via component.

Am I being dense why is the bottom one cheaper? Aren't they both the exact same TV?
I got an issue with the Sony 42W655...the black bars when watching a 2.35:1 movie are distractingly bright. Any tips or settings to make them darker? I really don't understand what reviewers mean when they say Sony's TVs have great black levels.
I have seen this Panasonic ST60 and it looks like a mighty fine television (only 700 euro here in the Netherlands!) with great black levels but now I keep hearing stories about awful lag making it a bad choice for games. Is this true?

Technically?: yes. Practically?: no, it's a crock of shit.
You'll not notice it one iota unless you are a professional gamer who gets paid upwards of $200k annually for sitting on your ass and claiming you can tell the difference between 160fps and 155fps.

I'm not sure where to begin with as to how wrong this is.

Don't even start with this shit. Input lag is 2013's tech catch phrase; in 2012 no-one cared about it in the slightest, now everyone claims that 'input lag' is why their kill ratio in CoD isn't perfect anymore.
If you have to ask if input lag is going to be a problem, you'll have nothing to worry about with your TV of choice; if you CAN tell the difference between 10ms input lag, then you've obviously already gone and sifted through the 100's of reviews to find out which TV will be better suited for you.

I'm surprised to see this thread up to only 52 pages, do the mods need to clean out fights and arguments often? This type of topic normally can cause some serious brand / tech loyalty rage!
Very few people come to this thread to start shit that I've seen. Anyone who cares enough about this topic is more interested in guiding fellow gamers and A/V enthusiasts to a decision that fits them best than starting a fight. A TV can be a big investment, most people buy the things and watch them for 5-10 years. Nobody has time for fanboy shit when it's their eyeballs staring at something for that much of their lifetimes.
S60 for $649 or S64 for $789 + costco membership?

You get 1 year extra if you pay by credit card at any store, though. The Costco TV is worth it just for customer service that Costco offers, plus the 1 year additional on top of manufacturer's warranty. They also offer an additional 3 years on top of that for a total of 1 + 1 + 3 = 5 years of warranty for another $99.

Saw my first 55" OLED today. Pretty
Impressive. Black levels were just incredible.
Hopefully Sony gets in that game when it's more affordable (if ever) Would not be able to stomach paying money for a Samsung product if the choice is between them and LG.
do you live in the PAL-lands? From the S60 I'm guessing no.
But if you do, or the ps2 and it's games are PAL, it's a normal thing on bad 50hz conversions. It's not detected as such because unlike the other example, where black bars are actually not part of the source and it's just that it's running on 512x448 or so (ie: not full buffers) hence easy to detect and correct, that doesn't happen with lousy pal conversions though, and by lousy we're talking most of them. You need a geometry regulator to fix that.
Does it happen on all games? And which cables are you using?
Got a closer look at the F8500 plasma today in a darkened magnolia room. This is the most impressive display I've ever seen (and I've seen the VT/ZT and the Kuros). It was displaying a mostly black screensaver, alongside two LCDs, and the blacks looked pitch black. The LCDs were glowing blue, but I couldn't detect any sort of light coming from the plasma. It was the closest thing to a big screen OLED I've ever seen. And the design is sexy. Hopefully Samsung will continue with this line next year. I just may buy one.
I have a situation and need some help. I own a 2012 GT50 60" panasonic plasma
But I fell asleep watching a TV show bluray and now I can see the burn-in / image retention on my screen. I have never had a problem but I have tried the wiping feature built in for hours, PS3 media player option and I don't see it improving.
Is my TV fucked?
I went to the store and looked at Sony 4K 65" X900 and I like the passive 3D and picture looks great.
Is this a good tv for gaming? 120hz?
Thanks

This is pretty much my nightmare scenario and basically the only remaining issue that's holding me back from driving to the nearest TV store with Panasonic plasmas, since falling asleep while watching 'finite' content (blu-rays, TV shows episodes, etc.) is something that happens quite often with me. I presume there is a 'sleep timer' feature included with the 2013 Panasonic line? That would help a lot.
Yes, there's a sleep timer. I have it threaten to kick in while watching Netflix on my PS4 sometimes. It's effective and gives paranoid users peace of mind.
So go ahead and go buy one of the awesome Panny plasmas. You won't regret it. I like my S64 so much that I'm selling it and buying a VT60.
I have a VT60. The resolution on red and magenta improves if 1080p Pure Direct is activated, but it's still not perfect like on a monitor.Has anybody found a solution to to activate 4:4:4 mode in RGB without messing up the colors? Maybe using a component cable and outputting a 1080p signal?
You don't understand the problem. Games alrdy have an inputlag of 66ms (60fps) and 133ms (30fps) and you should prevent to add much more.Don't even start with this shit.
