Video game sequel from different developer that surpass original game ?

I agree. If you took a shootout from the older games and stacked it up next to a shootout from 3, the latter would come out on top. MP3's engine needs to be refined and used in a future game, it's too good not to be. MP3's gameplay in MP1/2's basic level design (levels without frequent cutscenes) would be a godsend.

The survivor AI is WAY better in DR2. The AI in the first game was infuriating.

I enjoyed DR2 so much more than the first. DR3 is pretty awesome as well

I have to go with Skylanders Swapforce. The first Skylanders game I find myself playing when my son goes to bed.

This may be a bit of a stretch, but I would say Paper Mario if considered as a spiritual sequel to Super Mario RPG.

Edit: Also, F-Zero GX, the only racing game I ever truly loved.

None of what you say was in DR2, it was in DR1. That's why DR2 is better.

creative weapon crafting has now become the staple mechanic in Dead rising games, Photography while fun and hilarious served no purpose once you started creating combo weapons.

There was a lot of busted ass wonky ass shit in DR1, that was improved upon dramatically in DR2 and the downloadable games. Survivor AI and protection wasnt some busted ass chore and they were more competent and fun to have around at times.

Also...chuck greene is a better character.

Ready at Dawns God of War Ghost of Sparta (HD for PS3) is actually the best God of War game made,........ and I love God of War.
Definitely the best story / best told story, I loved that game, very surprising.

Looks amazing on PS3 too, seriously.
 
MDK 2 is definitely better than the first one. It's a great game.

Also, if Paper Mario is considered to be a sequel to Mario RPG, then I agree that that one was a significant improvement as well.

Hmm overall I would say no but if you wanted a Halo game solely for MP I could easily see why people would consider it a bad game and be fully justified in doing so.

Not everyone plays games for the single player experience albeit I'm far more in favor of SP then MP and find the current climate annoying

As for the original question. Star Trek Elite Force 2 by Ritual was better than Elite Force 1 by Raven, though they're both great shooters
 
I vote Sleeping Dogs.

Despite the name change, it was supposed to be True Crime Hong Kong before Acti canned it and Squeenix took over. The other True Crime games are shit, Sleepy Dogs is amazing.

Halo 4, they improved everything.

I know that gaf hates this game but that was the only halo game i liked and I hated halo 3. If Halo 5 turns out like Halo 4 I will have to buy Xbone just for that game.

Then I played it, and lo and behold, it was a highly competent sequel to the original. The first was good but I think I enjoyed the second more.

Resistance: Retribution by Sony Bend is better than FoM (Insomniac) arguably. It's easily better than Resistance 2. (not that it's hard)

LittleBigPlanet Vita by Double Eleven / Tarsier Studios is in my opinion the best LittleBigPlanet (Media Molecule).

Halo 4 introduced perks, custom loadouts, killstreaks, randomized power weapon spawns, new game breaking armor abilities, and the default ability to sprint, which negatively impacted both combat and map design. 343 removed legacy game types, Firefight, and campaign theater and scoring. They replaced the series' beautiful UI with a terrible and sometimes straight up broken UI. The AI were embarrassingly stupid. Nearly ever single multiplayer armor design was horrendous. Like, laughably, mind bogglingly horrendous. 90% of the multiplayer maps were garbage, with large maps and forge maps having extremely low frame rates (which defied belief and became even worse in splitscreen). The only new vehicle that was introduced was the Mantis. The Mantis.

There is no fucking way Halo 4 is better than any of the Bungie-made Halo games.
 
Opposing force may or may not actually be better than Half Life.

I am always in conflict about this one.

In fact opposing force is so good, that I am convinced gearbox had nothing to do with the game.
 
dota 2 actually. even thro i guess icefrog now works for valve .

on a non mod take. DEFINITELY spec ops. the original games were utter crap. I know i had one for the ps1

yes. i enjoyed that much more than bethesda's F3.
and yes. i understand the irony of obsidian having members of the very original fallout team.
