Dark Souls II "Curse" Trailer

That teen rating concerns me a lot more than not being hyped by the trailer; the poster on the previous page mentioning it not looking dirty enough resonates with me. Nothing shown in that trailer gave me a "fuck that" response like when they first showed off the Gaping Dragon for Dark Souls.

I suppose managed expectations can only be a good thing here.

So excuse my ignorance, but people actually gave a shit about the story in Dark Souls/Demon's Souls?

I honestly don't even remember what it was about. Gameplay is obviously the key factor here, but I'm honestly shocked so many people are interested in the narrative.

it's more about the lore and info that people have assembled from the NPC dialogue and item descriptions. really awesome stuff.

What I liked about the story was that it was there, but it wasn't obvious. If you wanted to learn about it, you had to pay attention and go looking for information. The gameplay is what drew most people to the game, but there was a story there for people who wanted to pursue it.

Dark Souls lore is among the best stories in recent years

Fair enough I suppose! I guess I was just too concerned with my strategy for not getting mangled every damn time to notice.

Wait, a T rating? So no crazy stuff like Maiden Astrea? That really sucks =

I want my Dark Fantasy to be really dark and disturbing.

What was so crazy about Astrea? I haven't played demons souls in a while, but i just remember killing her guard, then her. Maybe in the lore there is something dark. Things like ratings are more based on how gory or sexual something is visually. Dark Souls apart from Queelag is like the only thing I would say is something that would give it a M rating.

The narrative is excellent. Obviously it was the gameplay that kept me playing PvP for hundreds of hours, but the narrative in both Demon's and Dark is great.

Oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god what is that monster made out of living people lashed together, oh my god that was so cool what was that oh god

Those aborted babies, mate. Creepy as fuck.

I really need to stop watching everything about this game and try to go in blind. Decent trailer though I hope it doesn't spoil too much. Also hard to make out the narration after about halfway through. Hurry up already march.

Whaat? T Rated? I hope they're not doing this on purpose and this is just because there are no Quelaa Sisters in the game :/

What is a class, but a miserable pile of statistics?
Tee hee.

Hoping Demon's Souls 2 has a Samurai class.
Close enough:

After all, "classes" are just starting stats, it's all about the roleplay. -)

I dunno that I'd say that. Judging from the trailer alone I personally want no part of that fire demon plus the thing that had living people as a stomach. Enemy design looks as fucked up (a good thing) as ever from the footage I've seen.

What was that monster with the really long arms? I can tell that thing is going to be a pain to deal with.

I was a little disappointed with the Curse trailer but then I watched that. I'm sold again on DSII. I like trailers that manage to create some sort of narrative rather than just show a series of action shots. Also, I forgot how good the lighting in some parts of this game looks. I can't wait.

edit: I noticed the US? Aching Bones trailer posted on Sept. 13 has Namco listing the game as Mature rated. Was that a mistake or did they expect to get a mature rating but ended up teen?

Lesee, huge pile of dead bodies and blood, combined with bloody babies in the plague filled waters. Torture devices covered in blood at Latria, along with blood pools after taking the elevator down near the veins for the giant heart, and some gore filled scenes here and there. It was not just scary looking monsters. Also, I have not played DaS till now, so I don't know how different it is vs. DeS.

Didn't like it. But I think Souls games' amazing environments, characters and their animations can only be appreciated from the normal camera point of view during gameplay, not from a series of confusing zoomed-in action shots that last one second.

I didn't think it was that bad..

Besides, so what if it's teen. Would you want disturbing things just for the sake of it instead of strong elements.

Not really, no. But given that one major source of inspiration is Berserk, I'd like them to remain similar in tone like in DeS. Even if DeS is not as dark as Berserk, the dark elements had meaning. I don't want them turning Teen to reach a wider audience and all. Plus, implementing disturbing elements well complement a good dark world/atmosphere design.

Still getting this game for my PC day one, and it's cool that there is an EU PC limited edition.

Hrngh hype. I'd been mostly on blackout for this, but I decided to watch it and I do not regret it. So hype. All of the hype. 2014 has a lot of hype games for me, and this trumps them all. I need it.

Really looking forward to what they do with the lore. Dark and Demon's both handled that stuff really well.

...and the gameplay obviously. :P

DaS have less disturbing element, especially in environment aesthetic. Mainly because there isn't any prison or torture area like DeS. The closest one we get is Sen Fortreess but that are is hardly distrubing at all despite all the swinging blade and axes since you can hardly find any body lingered around like Tower of Latria. Also the Valley of Defilement equivalent, Blighttown doesn't have something like, aborted fetus, and the actually don't look as scary and depraved as the DeS equivalent. Maybe the only enemy that look more disturbing is Gaping Dragon, that doesn't do much actually compared to the stuff DeS have.

So I guess without Quelaag and her Sister, or both of them covering their hest, I guess DaS will ended up as T rated as well :/
Oh yea, I forgot Gwynevere "Amazing Chest Ahead"

Well this is what I hoped to: They get T rating as it is, not because they aim to do so. Like I said above, DaS element is particularly less disturbing than DeS so I think they migh be able to achieve that. But if Namco turned to be Scamco, then I guess I'm in for the gameplay :/
Also in this day and age people don't care about rating, and M is the T anyway so if they want to wider the audience M rating is the one that actually help.

i wan to die so badly

Rolling while laughing at this one.

how the fuck is there still no date for PC version

Blame Bamco?

Last gen's going out with a bang, as it should. I went on complete black out after the first trailer. I didn't read about the beta testing or anything. I'll let the despair take me as a fresh blank slate thank you very much.

I think a lot of people complaining about the graphics are forgetting that Demons/Dark never had cutting edge graphics...yeah, you can boost everything in the PC version of Dark to be ultra high res but the games were designed with consoles in mind, and it looks like they are showing console footage here.

The art direction and lighting are pretty good in the older games, but anyone forgetting the ugliness of Dark Root Garden/Lost Izalith needs to go and look at those areas again. I haven't seen anything that looks quite that unpolished in the new footage/network test.

Also, we've only seen a tiny portion of the game. I'm sure there will be some really interesting areas deeper in the game.

Seriously guys. Just go to the river in Darkroot Garden in Dark Souls, when you climb up to the area where the forest covenant is. We're talking about legit N64 textured water there. No hyperbole in that statement.

What about New Londo's floor full of drowned bodies?

It really will be interesting to see what makes Dark Souls II a teen rating as opposed to M like the previous games. Maybe there are less dead bodies, torture, half-naked spider ladies, etc.

We can't really know until we play it. Also, I can see how Latria would make Demon's Souls an M rating by itself. The building was a giant torture chamber.

That truly is no lie. That is probably the worst water effect I've seen in 10 years.

Even then, DS has such beautiful artistic direction. I don't care about the IQ so much as the design itself.
