Dark Souls II "Curse" Trailer

That truly is no lie. That is probably the worst water effect I've seen in 10 years.

Even then, DS has such beautiful artistic direction. I don't care about the IQ so much as the design itself.

Yeah I agree, and the armor always looks great. There's also a nice blueish lighting effect in the Firelink shrine area that looks really cool on armor. Also, first time seeing Gaping Dragon is definitely a WTF moment. That thing looks hideous, in a good way. They've got some great art design to make up for some of the shittier looking areas.

Which reminds me, the armor in DS2 doesn't have the same gleam that it did in the first. They all look really flat now. I hoped that was just beta but I think it also looks that way in the trailer...

That actually bums me a lot.

So excuse my ignorance, but people actually gave a shit about the story in Dark Souls/Demon's Souls?

I honestly don't even remember what it was about. Gameplay is obviously the key factor here, but I'm honestly shocked so many people are interested in the narrative.
The can of worms you've just opened....

Seriously guys. Just go to the river in Darkroot Garden in Dark Souls, when you climb up to the area where the forest covenant is. We're talking about legit N64 textured water there. No hyperbole in that statement.

Someone has to post a screenshot now.

Holy shit.

Looks OK here though:

Dramlake, not as cool as Lordran.

Drangleic

Agreed. I loved just chilling in Firelink and rotating the camera around my character because the way the blue light bounced off every metal part of my armor, shield and weapon looked soooo damn good. It's a huge shame it's gone, but at least we got the badass soft cloth physics now for the robes and capes and whatnot.

Me too. Hoping it somehow turns out okay. Some screenshots have a serious lack of shine, but others seem to show that the engine is still quite capable of it.

Does that mean something cool in some fictional From Language?

Might be an allusion to real life language. Lordran was the "Land of Lords" where you had these super-powered entities running amok. "Drang" means drive or urge in German (as in Sturm und Drang), so it could be some kind of thematic hint about the story,

Holy shit, I'm normally not one of those that hypes DS in every thread but goddamn at the art in this game or let's say the creation of those foul beasts, ghosts and monsters. It's simply beautiful and terrifying.

Somebody probably already said what I have to say, but;

I knew there would be a serious trailer eventually. There wasn't really any need to complain about the live action trailers/etc. since those were probably made with Bamco's money anyways.

Looks as good as I expected it to, gameplay and graphics wise.

I don't expect groundbreaking graphics, and the art direction is hard to gauge based off short clips of gameplay, so I think it's too early to say if it is any worse than Dark Souls. Even if it was worse than DS1, it would still probably be a lot better than the majority of games.

hopefully it can be implemented on PC. I imagine it will.

I love demon's souls and dark Souls but this. I don't even really know what happened in dark Souls :/

They have the same vibe and aesthetic direction as DaS 1, but yeah, it doesn't have the same gleam. Even the poster armor doesn't have the same level of detail that the Elite Knight Armor have. In term of design and detail, Elite Knight Armor is one of the most glorious armor I've ever seen. Only Gerard leather armor from Witcher 2 that almost topped that.

But then why was Demon's Souls M? I can't recall anything that M-worthy in that game, but the series is so dark that a T rating just looks odd.

I don't see why any of them deserved a had M rating, the hid the tits under hair. I guess it's like halo? i don't know why halo gets M rated either.

The thing about pics too is that the ones I've seen of Dark Souls as well look bad, and they don't represent the game well. It's like the person who took the photos lacks the ability to choose good shots, or you just need to play the game in motion.

Also that pic that Soriku posted does the graphics too much justice...when you see it in motion it looks even worse. Also that looks like a higher resolution than the console versions. The way it looks on PS3 is much worse. The other areas with water are okay, it's just mainly when you cross that river. It's just a stiff floating texture that breaks at the bends of the river.

But anyway, there will be some changes. The little things like the armor glow might be missing, but hopefully it was just the area that the network test was based in. It was really a drab/grey area, while Firelink Shrine in the original Dark Souls has a very bluish sky above so that is what calls for that effect.

I may be wrong but I heard they've reworked the lighting engine, so maybe we have yet to see the expanse of the new engine. From what I've seen of the final boss fight in the network test, it does look really good.

Damn, can't wait to play this. Gotta say I wasn't a fan of that winged lava demon thing though. Looked way too generic.

As excited as I am for this game its either PC or waiting for a PS4 port (which will certainly come). I feel that the Gothic beauty of this game is diminished on older hardware.

Watched half of the video. for me the gameplay parts of the video are spoiling too much enemy and boss types.

The game really lives trough the feeling when you see a new scary enemy type or boss for the first time and totally freak out :D

Why not all three? I'll probably end up doing that. Unless the game sucks or something.

Looks awesome...and a day one buy for me
The only thing that irks me is the fact that is not on next gen as of yet

Haven't been this excited for a release in a long time. Looks fantastic and I can't wait to make that trip. Why do we still have to wait that long?

Hyped!!!

So does this confirm its not Lordran in a different time. Enemies look awesome. My body is ready!

I have to say graphics looks worse in some parts but I don't really care.

yeah, this is why i've been on an almost succesful total blackout (only know about the mirror boss). not gonna watch a second of this. im holding firm.

with Dark Souls 1 i knew almost every boss before starting the game, which sucked. took away a lot of the excitement. not gonna happen this time! im going into DaS2 without knowing a thing about the weapons, levels, new gameplay or mp aspects etc. so i know i'll have lots of holy shit moments :)

WTF is wrong with you!? I hope the abyss takes you!

To be honest that trailer didnt hype me more than i was before.

Still this is EASILY my most hyped and wanted game in a long, long, long time.

I hope they have more and different bossfights than in this trailer. Those looked so damn generic. A big dude with a sword. Another Dude made out of corpses with a big sword. A big dragon.

We had some unique ones in Demon and Dark Souls 1. But those looked awful generic.

And i missed the Berserk atmosphere.
