Exclusive Invitation for an Xbox One Alpha Trial [Titanfall]

Yeah, looking at the rest of the pics you can definitely tell the sharpening filter is applied. Look at this grate:

Respawn, please flip that switch and turn off that ugly ass filter. KI did it, BF did it, you guys can do it.

Oh god, I really hope they so something about the XB1's awful up scaling. It's a nightmare for anyone who cares about image quality.

I don't really buy this compressed texture talk. 3.8 gigs is not small for 2-3 multiplayer maps, as I'm assuming this alpha has.

Well, I'm just being optimistic. I'm not an expert when it comes to file sizes and what can be fit in there (or judging what content is in a file size, and determining what levels of resolution they can have on there).

But I'll just say this, the resolution better be compressed for the alpha, because it would then be worse than Call of Duty Ghosts. And that is saying something. I believe that it is compressed. I believe the final build will be way better. But that's just me.

Deal with it guys, the game wont be the prettiest thing on the block on the Bone, lol. Come to terms with that, and then see if the other aspects of the game will appeal to you.

Quoting Rayme for emphasis:

Guys.

This build is NDA for a reason. It's not representative of the real game's fidelity or polish.

You will have plenty of chances to judge the real game's visuals.

I fully intend to deal with it. Just hoping to see the best possible version to that 720p native res. ;)

Quoting Rayme for emphasis:

With all do respect, and I do respect your team immensely, you could certainly release your own in game screenshots of the final build right now if you wanted to settle this. Without that you're just leaving things open to being evaluated as they are.

For example to head off the inevitable leak, and it is inevitable, you could have chosen to release a high quality unedited gameplay video from a more final build, and told people "this looks better than the alpha, and here is proof".

Resolution don't affect game size.

Nope so far
It's super early haha

Damn you with your ninja editing.

Doesn't texture quality/size impact file size? I guess I'm ignorant on what can make a file size bigger.

It can, but you're not saving a ton of space. It helps when you're developing a phone game, for example, and need to shave a few megs to get under 50mb. But when you do it in a large console game? You're saving a few hundred megs.

The idea that Respawn would go out of their way to save a couple hundred megs while making the game look graphically worse even in a closed alpha environment is a bit silly.

But that's not to say they can't improve it before launch.

edit: I was wrong, Respawn confirmed the Alpha has significantly lower textures than the final game will.

Uh oh what's this

What with the all cheesy comments?

It's posts like this that make me love GAF.

I wonder if BT had to go through each post individually and change it to cheese. Must have a real hassle if true.

Also, that sharpening filter needs to go. To the untrained eye, it may seem like the game actually looks better, but I can't stand that thing.

Sorry, that's just straight up bullshit lol.
Why do you think COD Ghosts is <6gb current gen and 50gb next gen?
Exact same game, pretty much only difference is higher quality textures.

Pretty much. Even if it got to around 6 or 7 GB, it wouldn't have been a big deal unless there are some weird Microsoft restrictions in place.

I highly doubt they intentionally gimped the graphics to save a few GB from people's Internet bills.

...er, no? Why do you think some PS3 games were a much larger filesize than their 360 counterparts but had zero improvement on texture resolution?

I should clarify that I'm specifically talking about a small demo build in regards to saving a few hundred megs. You can get a gig or two from a full final game, sure.

In game cinematics and audio can easily boost a game size. Textures can too but unless they're doing 4k textures, the size difference probably wouldn't be substantial enough to justify them axing it for a public alpha.

Edited: I did have a post of about 80 pics here from imgur that was changed to a picture of a man eating cheese.

This is the only time I've ever seen NeoGAF censor posts like this since joining the site and I have to say I'm a bit let down.

Also, to those judging the game's graphics purely on "alpha" pictures, that is kind of stupid, it has already been said nothing is finalized and they may have used lower textures and what not to allow the download to be smaller.

I'm playing the Alpha as we speak and they are indeed using lower textures for speedy download reasons... Fidelity and content aren't representative of the final build!! This is mentioned in the disclaimer!! But I'm getting out of here before I get banned from Xbox Live

Yaaaaaaayyyyyyy

"Hey the Titanfall alpha build is ready to deploy, looks like it's about 5.6gb."
"Make it 3.4gb. We need to get this build to people as fast as possible."

Wow, very surprised they did this.

At least counter with a new round of official media. It seems very weird to do this -- surely they knew that the alpha's screens and videos would leak with probability one?

Really, really weird. Why risk bad press and media for a couple of gigs?

That's a ~90 minute difference with my connection. It's not that outlandish, though I don't think the final version will look much better.
