NFL Super Bowl XLVIII |OT| Best OP In The Game

PI is called less in the playoffs though. And I didn't see a clear bias towards the Hawks last night. Actually wouldn't mind if they did that in the regular season, less interruptions, just needs to be called consistently less.

I like the way the Seahawks get physical, it evens out the playing field for the O and D, it's a cool way of playing football and like Ez said might even limit the headhunters.

Just need to bring back Ty Law and Pats are back in this.

To me personally and probably any one with a brain, better.

But my belief is either don't call anything and allow a fair playing field for both teams to do it(would probably make for a more interesting league to me). Kind of how we've gotten with offensive linemen holding, Where it happens almost every play but only the most blatant examples get called. Or call everything as the rules state so that it gets stomped out and we aren't having a situation where the bigger cheater gets the advantage because the refs are only gonna call a penalty for PI once and a while. Often with no rhyme or reason.

The false assumption you are making is that the same people are making these inconsistent calls.

It's generally agreed upon that officiating crews are consistent, at least in their tendencies. You know Hochuli is going to throw a lot of flags. You know Triplette is going to throw a lot of flags (and completely fuck everything up). There are other crews that don't. It's a matter of knowing the crew as much as anything.

You cited 2 opinion pieces. Shitty ones at that. The WSJ piece states that their brilliant strategy is to cheat so much until the refs are too tired to throw flags. You want me to take that seriously?
Your so wrapped up in bias that it's not even worth talking to you anymore.

If you can't see that strategy was a heavy one in Seattle, even when one of the articles has quotes paraphrased from Seattles own defensive coordinator about educating their players on what interference gets called and don't, then clearly you are too far gone to reason with.

And what's funny is at the core of my feelings I'm not even knocking Seattle for it. My issue is with the league. Either let it all go or call them all to stomp it out. Heck allowing some of the grabbing and bumping may reduce the tendencies to head hunt as someone said. Yet you're so blinded by homerism or whatever to see straight.

That strategy is called playing defense.

Also :lol at calling me a Seattle homer.

News flash: Everyone does this! OLine is taught how to hold without getting called. Wide receivers are taught how to push off w/o getting caught. This is something everyone does and you're silly to think Seattle is alone.

How fucking dare the Seattle coaches educate their players on what is and isn't considered a penalty in the NFL?!?! THE FUCKING NERVE IT MAKES ME SO MAD!

No what I'm saying is that league wide there was a complete failure at enforcing the rules. Yes some crews do call more PI then others but even those crews let a lot of this stuff slide. Just not as much. At least from what i saw and from what reporters have researched.

My point is that the nfl needs to iron this out and then be either completely passive in all instances through either understood non-enforcement(like happens with oat offensive linemen holding) or a complete rule repeal, or push to enforce the rules more uniformly and address the issue head on. So as to no longer essentially award the team that breaks the rules the best.

I'm a 49ers fan and I live in Montana, so I see a lot of Seahawks games as they're the local NFC team.

What their secondary will do is grab the jersey of a WR after 5 yards to direct the WR where they want him to go (Sherman does it a lot). Honestly, I don't have a problem with it because the defense is already at a disadvantage due to the offense knowing the play they called and then the NFL swung the pendulum in favor of the offense with all of the stupid ass rule changes.

To beat Seattle, you have to be physical with them. They're going to try to out muscle you, you have to be able to fight back. Take the game that SF won this year against them, SF was taking it to the Seahawks and won the game due to Gore's 40yd run to setup the game winning FG. If you're not prepared to be physical with them (like Denver was last night), you're going to get destroyed.

I knew that game was over last night once Seattle made it a two score game. If they force you into a situation where you have to pass to catch up, it's lights out.

It's funny how illogical some people are when it comes to sports.

Some of you responding are just laughable at this point.

It's like talking to Limbaugh shills who have spent most there waking life ingesting propaganda. There is no reasoning when they have a narrative in their mind set.

That is clear cut PI and I can't imagine anyone getting anyone getting away with grabbing jerseys on a consistent basis. I have only seen maybe 5 or 6 Seahawks games but I never saw this during their games. They did get away with some bumps here and there but that is true of every team. Refs fuck up calls all the time. I did not see them getting away with blatant PI.

Sort of like looking at a Steelers avatar and calling them a Seattle homer repeatedly?

That the kind of logic we swinging for here, champ?
Dude but what about the opinion piece from ESPN?

You know the same site that blamed the entire Eastern conference sucking for the Heat performing below expectations this year.

I'm going to Holland for Carnivale.

I'm not sure how that particular comment, which I was apparently wrong about, disproves anything about the larger point of pass interference calls that I was making.

Actually, it's holding.

And just like holding at the lines, it doesn't get called on every play.

Seattle is excellent at knocking a WR off of his route. They do this by being physical. It really messes with offenses that are timing based.

That's why I said you have to be physical to beat them. They're going to try to knock you around, you have to knock them back. You play soft with them, they'll eat you alive (as we saw last night).

It proves that you're just as illogical about your games that other people play to entertain you and in no way affect your life as the rest of us.

So take another swig of the 'shine and stop angering up your blood.

Seems like everytime a team wins, somebody starts yelling afterwards how the Refs sided with the winner.

That's not what I'm saying at all. What your saying implies favoritism. What I'm arguing is that Seattle exploited a flaw most successfully.

I'm not angry at them. In fact lots of Super Bowl winners have done it. Some even worse then what Seattle did. Denver perfected chop blocking during their Super Bowl wins as a means to create running lanes for Terrell Davis and stock up on cheap undersized linemen to afford more expensive players elsewhere and in later years had a questionable under the table bonus program to entice free agents if I remember correctly. New Orleans had bounty gate. New England spygate.

In comparison Seattle is pretty tame in their exploits and their crime is only being the most heavy exploiter in a league, which according to those articles, has a lot of teams exploiting.

But for some reason bringing this up gets everyone going off the deep end.

I'm going to Holland for Carnivale.

But, carnival is fucking terrible, why would you do such a thing? It's terrible Dutch music and people drinking/throwing beer around (Not gonna lie, I can enjoy it when I'm there, but I will never admit it).

Where are you planning on doing this in this tiny nation? And when the fuck is carnival? I live in a big boy city, not one of those southern towns where carnival is a big deal.

Actually a Steelers fan, but I put $100 on Seattle and got bombed in a Seahawks bar and still didn't have any fun. Such a shitty day I'm actually glad to be at work with a hangover.

I wanted to see Peyton lose, but not like that.

Actually, it's holding.

And just like holding at the lines, it doesn't get called on every play.
In the first five yards it is holding but you just can't get away with grabbing the jerseys consistently unless you want me to seriously believe the theory that the Seahawks figured out that the refs are such pussies that their arms can only throw those flags so often before they get tired.

I am just not seeing this and I am glad that most people are backing me up. I have no love for Seattle and if I saw them getting away with something I would be the first to shit on them.

You can be physical on the line but you can't get away with holding the jersey because that is impossible to miss for even the most incompetent of refs.

No that proves I'm on a cell phone with the light turned down do my GF can sleep so I didn't see his avatar and I made a Cheap shot at a poster who has been completely unreasonable in his approach to a valid criticism of the league.

Because it looks cool.

But maybe I"ll go do the one in Venice instead if the one in Maastricht is really that bad

Jesus, calm down. Nobody cares.

How do you die hard nfl fans cope with no football for almost eight months? Here in the UK I go crazy when premier league football is off for even a week for shitty internationals. I can't imagine eight months of no soccer.

By realizing it means it is time for the superior sport of baseball to start.

Baseball.

It's the superior sport anyway.

We follow offseason speculation really there's enough of it till about early July, when it's before Training Camps and nothing's happening. Also I follow the Dodgers when Baseball starts up.

They're just messing with you. Nobody watches baseball. We basically just hibernate until the combine, then argue about who is getting drafted where. Then everybody talks shit for months and months and months.

The season never ends, it just slows down.

oh and fuck baseball

I've never been to Venice, but I expect it to be completely different from Maastricht. Maastricht will be a beer fest, people get shitfaced and wear silly costumes whilst singing Dutch songs. You can have a lot of fun, but it's not for everybody. Plus odds are the weather will be shit, because it always is.

(Plus I can't meet you in Maastricht, shit's too far away)

When you have a boundary between what is permissible and what is not, people are going to test where it is, because regardless of where somebody might say it should be what actually matters is what gets called or not. It's just like how, to use this forum as an example, no matter what mods may say on a rule, everyone is paying far more attention to what actually gets people banned, because they aren't concerned about being wrong in a moral sense, they're worried about getting punished in a practical sense.

At the same time though, you have to understand that NFL refs are graded on both calls and non-calls, and with stuff like the vague new rules regarding player safety you have refs themselves unsure on where they need to be drawing the line and so you get various personal interpretations of the rules depending on how scared they are of getting docked for not calling something. In other words, if you want something to be clear cut on the field, it needs to be clear cut in policy.

Also, a bunch of people are shouting how we get away with this or that, but they aren't the ones really watching our games and are just working on the power of suggestion.

You need to come to Texas! We can get a 60's model Cadillac with horns on the front, drive the entire state drinking microbrews and eating chicken fried steak with white country gravy at every stop.

All this while shirtless

That may be the most European thing you've ever said.

Wow shit talking from Browns fans...

Only Super Bowl you motherfuckers will ever make is scrubbing the toilets of the other 31 teams in the league, yet they'll still do a piss poor job and cleaning under the rim
I mean your called the Browns for fuck sakes, there's a reason

I mean you have Kave as your banner guy, that alone should tell you to jump ship

Fuck even Jaguar fans would commit suicide to rep for that dip shit of a team

Hey Browns fans try to sniff the playoffs before talking shit
You irrelevant
Only time you'll be in the news again is the #1 draft pick or if Jim Brown dies and they show the true great highlights of your team from yester-year

Disfunk punk bitches

Yessss the salt is delicious!

No!

Only like 95% is white. All shitfaced, white college kids.

The Hague to Maastricht is like a 2 hour drive! Ain't nobody got time for that.

You Euros are so crazy about anywhere you can't walk to. Two hours? Literally commuted that one way for a year.

I would not recommend that though.

fixed for Dutchness

Most people dress up as something else, but I'm sure some take the FMT approach.

We have the whole draft/combine thing to keep us busy on the football front. Besides that as a Euro it means much more sleep on Sundays/Mondays and I watch a lot more soccer and the Formula 1 season starts soon, so that's cool too. Add hockey playoffs/the occasional baseball game to that as boom it's September.

Let's also not forget the World Cup!
