XBLA (Xbox Live Arcade) News, Announcements, Reviews, and Impressions Thread

What is the difference between:

the game called Tomb Raider Anniversary

and

the DLC called Anniversary from the game called Tomb Raider Legend?

I posted in another Live related thread as I wasn't sure where to put it, but a year of Live (online code) is $40 on US Amazon until Feb 1st as an FYI. If it doesn't belong here, I'll delete when I get back from daycare...

I may give it its chance at $10... I would have preferred buying it on X1 for that price, but since the game isn't a looker anyway, it shouldn't make any difference.

I mean I had a fun time with it but I'm pretty sure that this will be one of the first games of the GWG promotion on XB1.

Man, Microsoft can suck it. I was a gold customer for 9 years. I let it lapse because I just wasn't playing my 360 anymore. So I was setting up my new Xbone last night and it offered me the 30 day free upgrade to gold. Well, I was going to do it, but it wanted my credit card. I didn't have it handy, so I skipped it. Now I can't access the 30 day free trial anymore. I called Microsoft and they were like, "Yeah, sorry once you skip it it's gone and I can't give out a 30 day code."

Gold is on sale for $40 and I was going to buy it, but they're such fucking twats I really don't even want to give them the money. I know it's only a month, but Jesus, what a bunch of pricks.

Edit: And I'm pretty disappointed with Kinect so far. I thought it was supposed to recognize smaller playspaces than the original Kinect, but I'm having all sorts of problems. It keeps saying it can't see the floor, so I finally get it working in the Kinect setup, but it still won't let me play Kinect Sports. Lame. I really don't want to buy a $20 stand to have it mounted on top of my TV like a fat ass gargoyle.

Amneisac, really sucks to hear that. In my experience, if I stayed long enough on a call with MS support, they eventually help out and give me what I need. As an example, MS and Ubisoft had a promotion that states if you buy the 360 AC4 Season Pass, you get a 25% discount on the XBLA AC Liberation HD for the first two weeks of the game's release. The game released on January 14th, and I tried to buy this last week, so I was definitely within the two-week window.

The discount wouldn't show up on the dashboard no matter what I did. Neogaf user Lima let me know the discount appears as a tile on the dashboard. The tile would not appear. After hours on the phone with both Ubisoft and Microsoft, their conclusion was:

1) They agreed the promotion existed
2) They did not know why the discount was not being applied
3) They could do nothing to force AC Liberation HD to show up at $15 instead of $20
4) They could not deposit $5 of credit into my account - the support guy said it was impossible
5) They ARE allowed to give me a $5 refund on any $5 purchase I made in the past. So I went ahead and bought AC Liberation HD at full price ($20) and then they gave me a $5 "refund" on Walking Dead Season 2.

That made me happy - I ended up buying AC Liberation for what was effectively $15. And I can still play Walking Dead Season 2 as much as I want, even though it was officially "refunded".

Different agents will have different temperaments and different levels of generosity. Maybe you can nab an agent that can give you a creative solution, sort of like the one MS gave me for AC Liberation HD's discount.

Released today,

Yeah, I figure I could have fought with them, but I just didn't really have the energy. The reason I let my gold subscription lapse was because back when all the "FIFA hacking" started, I was without my account for almost four months as they continually jacked me around. The first time I called them about the unauthorized access, the woman who took down my recovery e-mail address made about 5 spelling errors even though I was very clear about how to spell my e-mail address. So since the recovery e-mail address was incorrect, it took them about 4 months (and four of their "investigations" to figure out how to fix it. Eventually I had to contact the BBB and only then was the issue resolved when a higher-level customer support person at MS got involved. Even after all that I didn't get back all the Microsoft points I had in my account, but I wasn't going to keep fighting with them at that point.

I haven't paid for gold since all that went down, so I grabbed an Xbone and saw the free gold thing and I was like, eh - why not. Then when I realized I lost my chance I instantly felt all those old feelings coming back and really almost wished I hadn't bought the system at all.

To answer my own question regarding Halo Spartan Assault.

Nah it runs at 720p. 60 fps though. Lol even the Surface is capable of running that game at 1080p.

disappointed with mirror's edge. obviously not a huge financial loss at 5 dollars, but my expectations were fairly high due to the seemingly universal praise this game gets on neogaf. it's not a bad game, but the cops are annoying as fuck with their guns, and doing parkour all over the place isn't all that enthralling for me. i have a small hard drive so it's already been deleted for something else, but I'll probably come back to it someday and try again.

You have to tone down the hint system a bit. Then it's pretty much Prince of Parkour.

This should be dropped to $10 on the Xbox One, that is the only way I would buy this. Why is this more expensive on the the new console, its not like anything will be different, the game doesnt have next gen graphics and I am sure the game play will be the same.

Well it's 1080p on the One. That must be worth...something.

The Xbox One version wasn't even done by Twisted Pixel as far as I could see. When the credits were rolling I noticed there was a ton of Double Helix stuff, so I think the 360 version was done ages ago (like Max, although Press Play went back and added in a load of content that they put into the One version) and they got DH to port it to XBO whilst they continued work on their new IP and possibly Steam version - unless DH did that one too.

Either way, I wouldn't really recommend it on any platform if I'm honest.

Huh, pretty weird. How big is Double Helix? Killer Instinct and Strider plus something like that seems to be a pretty large amount of stuff for them in a short period.

i wholeheartedly recommend LocoCycle. go into it knowing its gonna be pretty bad and youll have a blast. bought it day one on xbox one and loved every minute of it.

If you want a bad car combat game then you'd be better off with Full Auto. It at least looks good.

I really love puzzle-solving games. I just spent a good hour in TR Anniversary solving puzzles and platforming in Croft Manor. I'm glad I have three of these lined up in my collection (Anniversary, Legend, Underworld).

Picked up Final Exam this weekend, expecting mediocrity but ended up with a pretty fun and thoroughly well-made game! Fun and fairly satisfying combat, even if the enemies attack patterns are on the lame side, exploration and fantastic saving and scoring systems. Not only is it drop-out friendly, i.e. if you go into a level and pick up a wepaon you can immediately quit, it even keeps separate saves for each level so if you get tired of the final boss on mega hard difficulty, you can go look for some collectables and return to the boss fight later. The scoring is pretty great too, since it has an option that allows you to turn off the combo timer, which turns into a risk/reward situation of you having to manually confirm combos in order to any score points. You can keep going for that 1000 hit combo and risk it all for 70k points, or you can confirm every 200 kills to make sure you hit 30k.

It's funny, I normally don't like beat 'em ups but this, Foul Play and D&D were all very entertaining. Orc Attack is the only odd man out...

Actually, the price on XB1 IS $10 now. Unlike the other sales (which had slashed the price on the on-console price page, to reflect the new price) This one just says it's now $9.99. There's an ad for it on the system's game store, too, advertising the new price.

So looks like LoLcycle now just got a price cut!

Looks like I just got a new XB1 game, lol. $20 was so outrageous for this game. Now I can feel good about supporting one of my favourite devs. I'm sure this game will look horrible and have mediocre game play but I've read it has incredible humour and music. I'm jumping in.

Splosion Man + Ms. Splosion Man = gaming heaven. I pray that we get Splosion Man 2 on XB1 at some point... and hopefully they put in the graphical effort that they poured into Ms. Splosion Man (which looked gorgeous) instead of the abomination that is Lococycle. I want to splode in 1080p and 60fps.

Same here, just last week I finished The Maw for the first time, and I absolutely loved it. How could I not support those guys? Hopefully they get their mojo back with the next game (and a proper budget wouldn't hurt either).

Updating at the moment, double check prices before buying. I'll update throughout the day.
