Titanfall requires Origin.

Are we really doing this again? Origin functions perfectly fine. People need to get the fuck over it already.

It honestly doesn't bother me. I don't mind using Origin when need be but the only EA game I care enough about to buy outside of Steam is The Saboteur, whereas I'll buy everything I can on Steam just to have it on Steam. I actually expect EA to return, though, quite possibly some time this year, with at least its more recent titles having Uplayesque Origin integration (the client was recently updated to include an auto-exit feature, making it perfect for a middle-man launcher, similar to how Ubi handles Uplay integration with its such games on Steam).

Some of us have had Origin you know. And we hated it.

Well thankfully merciful EA gave you another option.. called xboxes.

I mean that if it was like Kingdoms of amalar and you didn't need origin despite EA people would be ok.

Well I think it is hypocrisy at its finest. If people really hate EA that much then they shouldn't buy TF in the first place, regardless of where it is being released.

They want to give their hateful enemy money but it is not ok to release on certain PC platform? That's just silly.

Is Titanfall more like Syrim or more like DotA2 or perhaps Warhawk? You need to compare it to contemporary titles in a similar genre. And prices for games in its genre range from free to heavily discounted. The onus of justification for the higher than usual price tag is up to Titanfall. It's certainly well above the standard price tag for its genre. And it's no secret what EA is going to do to the game. That $60 is basically for the starter kit. Soon you'll be inundated with various add-ons and DLC that are going to quickly bring the price skyrocketing even further on up.

We have single player games that cost $60 that are shorter than 10 hours (in some cases much less). Hell Ground zeroes is 2 hours lol, you point is what exactly. There's different ways to monetise games. Just because some multiplayer games are free doesn't mean they all are. Hell some multiplayer games cost retail and a monthly fee, and have 12 million subscribers while doing so.

The concept that because it's multiplayer it must be free or cheap is just a terrible one with a flimsy argument.

People losing their shit over this being Origin exclusive is blowing my mind. There are worse things.

Like being UPlay exclusive.

Indeed.

Oh no. So I'll have to move my mouse a centimeter to the right to launch the application that runs the game.

I don't know how I'm going to rise up and overcome this, but... I think I can look deep inside myself and find a way.

Haha, not even if you create a desktop shortcut directly to the game.

I have no issues at all with Origin. It alarms me those who are so polarized by Steam they are not open to alternatives.

Because I play my PC on a TV and Steam is literally the only interface to make that setup as painless as possible. Origin is useless for me as it is.

Maybe if I was doing desktop gaming with a PC monitor mouse and keyboard, it'd be different.

I find it aggravating that folks in here can't understand WHY people don't want to use Origin. Surely, it'd be more lucrative for EA to offer the game on both platforms but discount it heavily on Origin, maybe add exclusive features (streaming to twitch or whatever).

why not just get it on 360 or xbox one then?

I understand people have preferences and whatnot but It'd be more productive as to why this game shoudn't be on Origin and pointing out it's flaws instead of booning Steam's perks. Seems pointless to me.

I find it aggravating that people are too cynical to even explain why Origin is bad. Leaving "it's EA" doesn't give anyone any explanation. It's avoiding a discussion, honestly.

Origin has in-game streaming btw

That doesn't sound productive at all.

Its EAs game, it SHOULD be on Origin, but fuck if it doesn't aggravate me that it isn't on the most popular user friendly store front available too. Pointing out Steam's perks just makes the absence of a major title on the service that much more painful.

...maybe if Origin had a silent launch mode where the client isn't visible when running and the executable can be thrown in Steam as a custom launch application.

I need to try this with Crysis and see if I can make it work.

The Origin hate comes from the same place the Steam hate came from when it first came out and was a piece of shit. Both platforms work fine now. I understand that you get superhotawesomedeals on one every few months but really, there is no legitimate reason to be so pissy about having to load up Origin. If it's because "lol EA" then surely you wouldn't buy it if it were on Steam? Being on Steam doesn't magically erase the EA publication.

yea but you wouldnt need origin snd some will be fine with that.

It works for Mirror's Edge, Dead Space 3 and Battlefield 3 for me

So clicking on an icon to load up a program that you then click "Play" in to play Titanfall is really that big of a deal? Because man, if so, this is probably the whiniest bullshit I've ever witnessed in the PC community and it's just embarrassing.

At least it doesn't require uplay.

Holy crap this. Origin used to crash a lot on me when it was new, so I never used it and hated it. Now it's pretty dang convenient considering.

But yeah, Uplay is what EA should be showing people to get them to stop hating on Origin. Who knows, maybe it will be Ubisoft's turn to get it right.........................

Expected and not a problem. I don't restrict myself to only using Steam, and have never had any problems with Origin itself. Hell, I hardly even see it, unless it's a friend messaging me.

its more to it than that. i dont trust EA with origin.

Yeah I was already on the fence about getting this, and now I probably won't. Origin isn't a bad program anymore but I'd just rather not split up my library and friends lists further. Plus it feels good not buying an EA game, lol.

I never knew Gaf liked origin so much. That silent popularity. That friendly user experience. Those amazing origin sales. That EA love. Challenge everything ;)

I don't care about orgin or Titanfall. But if I wanted to really play a game I can't imagine orgin would be road block. Who cares, if you like the game.

Competition, reasons for Valve to improve itself and comparison point for consumers.

It's a software that loads up and plays games. I don't get the vitrol against it. Is it a virus? does it lose your saves? does it cost money. Why is it a sin for it to exist. Business have started up on far less.

Would you feel the same way if each and every developer/publisher had their own service?

You are straw manning what I said to the extreme.

What I said is that the standard price for modern multiplayer-only online-only games is well below $60. It's up to Titanfall to justify the above average cost. Even more so given that EA will undoubtedly turn the game into a DLC fest.

I completely agree that the standard price for single player games should also come substantially down, but that has little to nothing to do with the discussion at hand. The point is that the price of multiplayer-only online-only games has already come down and EA is pricing this like some sort of blast from the past. On the topic of blast from the past I assume you're referencing WoW with your 12million subs + retail + monthly? WoW is now completely free to play for the first 20 levels and you can cut that userbase in about half - and still rapidly declining.

You don't trust EA with Origin but would buy an EA product on another platform? I'm failing to see exactly what the logic is here. Do you think Origin is spyware or something?

Actually it is. It scans your system and uses the data for advertising purposes. It's even in the EULA.

2. Consent to Collection and Use of Data.

You agree that EA may collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address), operating system, Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware, that may be gathered periodically to facilitate the provision of software updates, dynamically served content, product support and other services to you, including online services. EA may also use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you. IF YOU DO NOT WANT EA TO COLLECT, USE, STORE, TRANSMIT OR DISPLAY THE DATA DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION, PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL OR USE THE APPLICATION. This and all other data provided to EA and/or collected by EA in connection with your installation and use of this Application is collected, used, stored and transmitted in accordance with EA’s Privacy Policy located at www.ea.com To the extent that anything in this section conflicts with the terms of EA’s Privacy Policy, the terms of the Privacy Policy shall control.

Edit: A friend informed me that they changed the EULA and this is no longer accurate. However the fact that they still did this to begin with set a very wrong precedence.
