Improved Switch 1 games on Switch 2

Games I've played that look like different games:
Crysis 3
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition (!)
NEO: The World Ends With You
Nier: Automata
Ni No Kuni II
Shin Megami V: Vengeance
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Star Wars: Bounty Hunter
Ark: Survival Evolved
Red Faction: Guerilla Re-Mars-turd (couldn't resist)

The rest I've seen mentioned numerous times. This is the bedrock of something new for Nintendo, and it gets two big thumbs-up from me.

What's the resolution for Crysis 3 and fps?

Im playing the regular SM V and it still looks as bad as on S1. As I'm only at the hydra (kicking my ass) I might shelf it and start again with the vengeance version if it's improved on the s2

Switch 2 upgrades cost time and money. They must be implemented, tested and then marketed. Nintendo probably looked at a combination of variables to determine which games were worth upgrading. These were most likely cost, playtime/popularity, marketability and difficulty.

Something like Breath of the Wild is a no brainer. Both popular and a technical showstopper. Recency is also a no brainer, but if a recent game is similar to an older title, maybe they can streamline the process and upgrade the old game too. Maybe this is what happened with Echoes of Wisdom/Link's Awakening. Sometimes it doesn't make sense at first, like ARMS, but I can only conclude that people are still playing it per internal metrics.

This is similar to when the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X came out. Not everything was upgraded. Since there is not an unlimited budget, you have to pick and choose. But I'm sure more are in the works.
Where they went and created new content yes, but I think that for the other Switch 2 edition games they already have a streamlined process. Sure, you want someone to test and maybe tweak some parameters / make some per title adjustments, but I would be surprised if they do not have a mostly automated process and a library injected in the game that does that. Especially as Switch 1 titles running inside an emulator, maybe the Switch 2 edition is a per game patch and game compiled against new libraries allowing for extended emulation (think about them emulating a Switch Pro essentially).

Look at HDR in BotW, from the tests done so far it is like XSX|S Auto HDR effect applied on the final image, they did not change the rendering pipeline. It looks good, maybe not perfect, but is convincing. Loading times did not disappear but are very very much reduced, etc… no apparent use of DLSS in the Switch 2 Editions either.

I do not think it costs them much to do these Switch 2 Editions, but it is still time they could be doing something else (that is likely the rationale they have).

I just picked up Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning and Darksiders III on the cheap, and both of those are smooth as butter (ESPECIALLY Darksiders III- WOW!)

Just dug out an old import on my Switch that gets a significant performance boost on Switch 2:

Make no mistake: the pop-in is still atrocious when exploring, but the battles are SOOO much better than they were on the Switch. Another hidden gem!

Most likely increased or stable frame rate and removal of variable resolution.
That's kind of it in a nutshell. Especially games that have variable resolution. Saints Row the Third is a fantastic example. Ooh! I'm gonna re-download Wolfenstein next!

Listen, I don't mind that much for a good, normally priced game upgrade but, I gotta say, the Mario party jamboree upgrade path is complete and the utter bullshit - I'm not interested in the camera games, I don't care about the extra minigames so, am I supposed to pay 20 EURODOLLARS just for the privilege of an increased resolution as to not have it look like shite on a 55" OLED ? GTFO Nintendo, I might as well take it back to Amazon and grab Mario 3d world + Bowser's fury for my MP kicks with my GF since that's been patched for FREE...

In fact , these upgrade paths make 0 sense, why is the Mario Odyssey/3D world patch free ? Why are the Zelda LA/EOW patches free ? On the other hand, Why are the Zelda BOTW/TOTK paid ? Why does the Mario party jamboree patch cost 20 Eurodollars from the moment many people would just like the resolution bump ? Why not have 2 separate upgrade paths/patches?

Fucking Nintendo man

Pinball FX was very poorly optimized for the Switch and runs at 60fps now.

They also made it where if you bought a pack for FX 3, you no longer need to repurchase it. I think Switch is the only platform that has this free upgrade path probably because everyone was avoiding FX for so long.

I'd still be a little hesitant about buying new tables because we don't exactly how the Switch 2 version will be handled, but purchases on PS4 carried over to PS5 so should work the same way.

Isn't the game already running at 1080p fixed resolution ? It's not like the slightly more pixels will change how the game looks.

Bae, when you witnessed BOTW, MK world and others running at a high res, it's difficult to go "back" brother, I mean, it's not the worst looking S1 game on S2 but, a res upgrade would still make it (definitely) better...

The 20 Eurodollars upgrade is BS for the people that just want a res bump, wouldn't you agree ?

Cheers

Eh I kinda do, but at the same time, I'm not that surprised, at least the upgrade path comes with a DLC.

And I suppose the logic behind it was to say "this is the first real Switch 2 Mario Party" (even if it isn't) to sell it at a higher price than the original (as other Switch 2 titles). Same with the Zelda games (they didn't call it remastered but they kinda are).

I'm more annoyed with Kirby, which I believe should've been a 60fps game in first place, so locking the upgrade behind a paywall with DLC is more annoying for me than the Mario Party one.

Playing Echos of Wisdom for the first time on Switch 2 and it cleans up really well. Nice to see the blurriness of Links awakening is gone.

Switch Up made a video on, amongst others, Red Faction Guerilla, which now runs at a locked 60 fps.

In comparison, PS4 Pro version dropped in low 40s-high 30s in performance mode

Speaking of blurriness in LA it took reading this for me to realize that the depth of field effect around the screen has been removed in the S2 update??!

I never played it on Switch 1 but I just played through all of Echoes of Wisdom on Switch 2. It's been talked about already but just wanted to confirm it ran extremely well and looks pretty nice. It maybe hitched a total of four times throughout my entire playthrough, otherwise was a solid 60 the whole way through. Had one annoying bug that forced me to restart after the first phase of the final boss but from what I read this was present on Switch 1 as well.

So awesome to catch up on some of these games and get a better experience. Really makes up for the sparse launch
