Rumor: Czech Retailer Leaks Steam Machine Prices (equivalent of $950 for 512GB and $1070 for 2TB)

It almost has to be $200-300 more than they had originally anticipated.

(And I'm expecting Sony to raise the PS5's MSRP by $100 at least by the time this comes out)
They still have a lot of ps5 stock to go through before they raise price, probably another year, and next gen consoles will cost more they won't be the same price as previous gen, plus the usual 70$ a year for online play if they don't raise that again

Lets say ps6 is 700, plus you get 1 year of online play, that's 770 right there out the gate

Next gen adoption will be very slow, I'll be surprised if there are any next gen only games really, I see ps6 or whatever next Xbox is just being another pro console

Around 1000 for specs lower than base PS5, without phisical games and to basically play indies and some retro emulators stuff.

No thanks.

I guess the justification from Valve is that this is a small form PC and can far more than a PS5, so it is priced as such.

Saying that, I personally don't believe it should be priced like a small form PC because Valve can offset the cost.

PC manufacturers can't offset the cost. Once a customer buys the PC then the manufacturer doesn't see another penny. However, with this Steam Machine, people will ne buying their games direct on Steam. Every unit sold is a Steam customer buying more games.

Maybe I'm wrong and if somebody has better understanding then please let me know.

Folks should remember that the price is pure speculation. Furthermore, it's concerted from € to $ AND it includes VAT.

US price would be around $800 before tax even if the leak was true.

"small form PC"

That's a laptop. Which is good enough for indie games or Age of Empire or whatever and you can use MS office with it.

Don't know about the price but the price difference between the two models is 100% bullshit. Valve already charges 110€ more for the 1TB Steam Deck instead of the 512GB one so the price increase can't be that small.

$800 for playing sub-par PS5 games in 2026, what a deal!

I feel like this thing will be DOA if it launches at $800+.
I KNEW I shoulda bought the lcd Deck when they had them on sale last month. Oh well, will wait for official price point from Valve, but I think I'll end up going with a used Deck at this point.

Someone said Returnal ran better…
Either way, yeah, PlayStation's system selling games, plus everything else on Steam, all Xbox Series and many One games, emulators for all your favorite previous consoles, modding capabilities, free online gaming.

Value proposition isn't great at the price. Compared to a console yes you don't have to pay for online so mid to long term it end up cheaper. Problem is the power, it really shouldn't be lower than a ps5 pro.
If the controller is packed in and you get some bonus stuff like Half-Life 3 / Steam gift card I might get it anyways.

find it funny people think Xbox will be free online gaming, when Xbox is the reason we don't have free online gaming
Things can change, you know?!
Then people shouldn't buy it. Valve can't control component costs.

Personally I think they should just delay it, but they can always release and adjust as pricing improves.
If they delay, the hardware needs to change. It's already not that good of a deal...

Xbox is the reason we don't have free online gaming

Do you think if Xbox hadn't made Xbox Live a paid thing, neither Sony nor Nintendo would have? C'mon now, just cuz MS did it first doesn't make it their fault the other players did it too.

Wouldn't be a bad price for a mid-range PC - which is exactly what it is.
Even without the Valve tax and "interesting" form factor, wouldn't be too expensive.

People comparing this to subsidized console prices should be barred from discussions until they learn the difference between an apple and an orange.

Returnal runs better on steam machine than ps5 going by the phawx copy build
In which video does he test it? I couldnt find it.

He has a video where he tries some games on a PC similar to Steam Machine, and every game that you can compare to the PS5 version clearly runs and looks worse(GW Ragnarok, Space Marine 2, Miles Morales, Indiana Jones)

Mainly the crappy laughable 8Gb VRAM which isn't even enough for some games on 1080p let along the better upcoming ones.

Even all the folks with a weaker pc than it shouldn't get it unless they wanna get suckered into a shitty 8gb vram. When they could spend more for an actual big difference and future proof one compared to their current. Steam box is only a bit better than their current ones plus 8gb of vram so why the hell would anyone wanna spend nearly a thousand for something barely better and with 8gb of pathetic vram.

Also not good for folks who never had a pc before as it only has 8gb of vram. So if they wanna go for pc most of them would rather just spend a bit more for a actual semi future proof one or a future proof one.

It's only good for folks who are dead set on making this a indie and older AAA game. But even that market doesn't seem perfect as my cousin who actually wants a new weaker pc for indie and older games and don't care for GTA VI or big AAA demanding games still don't wanna get it because of 8gb vram in case there's a chance a new demanding surprise game comes out that could actually interest him so even for these folks it's still not that appealing.

IMO, Valve needs to be in that $300-$500 price range if they're appealing to a broader audience. Otherwise people
will just buy a PS5/Switch 2 or Xbox and call it a day.

There should be a graph in the video that's shows returnal getting 80 fps at the highest settings on 1080p the same base resolution of ps5 unless it was another video I saw, while the ps5 doesn't even play it at the highest settings

Oh, and to cap it all off, after I did my video, someone in the Czech Republic contacted Smarty.cy and they were like,
"Hey, is this a legit price? Do you know anything?"
And they were like,
"No, it's purely a guess. We're just getting things ready to have it in our system, and we need a price in our system for it to let us have a store page for the console."

But it was fun reading how mad some people got about all this fuss.
