Shane would have gotten everyone killed or eaten by now.

nah.

That's Rick's job. And business is boomin'.

When Ricky boy was doing his sleeping beauty thing Shane was already building a village. They were doing pretty damn well too... until Ricky boy showed up.

Shane + Running shit = stable group doing fine (considering the circumstances)
Rick + Running shit = quickly deteriorating group(s)
Rick + Running shit + Shane in group (alive) = Group is doing poorly, but still managing
Rick + Running shit - Shane in group (dead) = Everything immediately goes to shit

I've crunched the numbers, folks. It's pretty simple maths. Also, Lori died on Ricks watch, not Shane's. On Shane's watch she was getting the pipe and chillin' with Carl. Just sayin'

Shane + his out for himself way of thinking = everyone that would have been dumb enough to follow him death's

Youve obviously watched the same show I have, yet you leave out all of the glaring examples of his poor and selfish leadership.

Lori didnt have to stay with the Gov, she chose to. Her fault alone. When she finally left she wasnt fast enough.

really disappointed in this midseason premier. i honestly, found myself fast forwarding through some of the dialog.

feel this show is going to shit. I really don't understand how non-comic fans are even interested and care about this show.

ready to give up on it and just stick with the comics. they better introduce
neegan
soon to keep me invested.

Hey man look at the facts: When Rick wasn't around Shane was doing just fine. Everyone was doing just fine. Then Ricky pops up and next thing you know people start losing hands and zombie traps are going off. Blood everywhere.

Rick is the bringer of death. Shane was the only one smart enough to see it. Just like he knew chasing Sophia was a waste of time and resources. He was always ahead of the game. Too bad the human jinx, aka Rick Grimes, is a walking death sentence.

I just don't understand how people can do this. I mean, even if I'm watching something I dislike or don't find particularly interesting, I still watch it through to the end without skipping anything. You're definitely a person who skips cutscenes in games too, right? lol

Someone explain what was up with all the zombie torsos? On the other side of the blown-up gate we saw all the zombie legs, like they were cut in half, and when they rammed that truck all the torsos fell out?

Made no sense to me

We don't know yet. They're basically teasing something.

When I first watched this episode i was like "TWD is going all artsy out of nowhere" and some of the editing reminded me of Breaking Bad.

RIP my favourite character in the entire show.

I can't stand these "OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE INVISIBLE ZOMBIE" situations that result in death or a bad situation.

I feel the same way but i wouldn't ever skip parts of an episode.

I'm fed up of everyone asking each other if they're okay or how they're gonna survive. Just get on with it?

I did enjoy the episode but only once something really started happening and a few heads were chopped off

And then probably complains that he doesn't understand what's going on and makes an online review saying the story is shoddy and weak.

Either these are the first hints of a new 'enemy' they will face, or they were there to be incomprehensible - this was someone's strange way of dealing with zombies. I mean michonne had her dismembered zombies, we have had zombie pits, captive zombies, zombie heads in fish tanks, this may just be a reminder of how strange the world is.

The Black Quota will be fulfilled once more Morgan gets here and becomes a regular on the show.

It would be hilarious if just as Morgan catches up with the group and he locks eyes with Rick on a horizon, he gets bit by a stealth zombie, like that dude from The Shining.

One of the worse episodes yet. Show continues to troll. Just when you think it's turned a corner it stops and takes a huge shit instead.

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
I thought it was an interesting episode, with some fairly generic and odd directing choices. Tyreese's journey throughout the episode, and the use of the "ghosts" was cool. The circumstances surround his bit felt incredibly cheap and contrived. That the episode ended with his death was unsatisfactory to me, and the bait and switch opening made the whole thing feel like a death for death's sake. We all assume it's Beth being buried at the beginning of the episode but *SURPRISE* it's actually Tyreese. It seemed purely calculated as a shock death coming right after another major character death and in the first episode back from a break. It didn't feel like an earned character death. The plot didn't motivate the death, the death motivated the plot.

Andrea, Hershel and the Governor's death all felt like conclusions brought about by character decisions and events following from one to the other. Beth's event had some semblance of character created consequence, albeit fairly underdeveloped. Tyrese's death was literally because a single zombie, who he was aware of moments before, just snuck up on him. It would have played better if Tyrese didn't actually see the zombie in the other room before. Let the audience see it and build the tension without making the character just look like a complete idiot. Oh well.

But that was the whole point of the episode. He saw Noah's twin brothers alive and at peace in those photos, and saw what happened to them in this world... and he didn't want to live in that world anymore. The whole episode was him struggling with who he is, what he wants to be, and the reality of the world he is facing. His nature was at constant conflict with his environment. He wants to help people and realizes that is a weakness in this world now. He can't save anyone, let alone that piece of his humanity he's been trying to cling to. So, he chose to let go. He couldn't be who he really is in a world like that, and he let himself be carried out of it.

That's why I really liked the episode. For once, It wasn't a death by plot device. It was a death of character, and one brought on my emotional conflict. And in the end, he let go.

Nicely contrasts the Glen and Rick conversations about life and death and the choices we make in a world of chaos.

Kirkman on the rest of Season 5:

I knew you have a lot of new characters coming up in this back half of season 5. What can you say about them in terms of people from the comic, people not from the comic, how they’re just going to fit into this world and how they might impact your sort of long-term main cast here?

There’s a lot of curve balls coming up. Comic book readers certainly have a leg up on figuring out where things are going, and everyone should be reading the comic. Please print that in Entertainment Weekly. But even if you have read the comic book series, there are a lot of changes, a lot of differences, a lot of curve balls coming up.

So I would say there’s a significant number of new characters possibly on the horizon, and a fair number of those are going to be directly adapted from the comic, which is always very exciting. And a few of those are going to be changed up quite a bit for various reasons. So it’ll be kind of a mixed bag. Here are characters you’re familiar with from the comic book series, and here are some new elements or some tweaks on these characters in some interesting ways that will hopefully enhance the story in ways that we’ve figured out. So there’s an awful lot of new on the horizon, I’ll say that.

At first, I was disappointed with them remixing characters derived from the comics but I'm more ok with it now. It was a little bit frustrating with Tyreese but damn did they hit the nail on the head with Gareth. Excited to see what's in store with new characters and new locales.

Solid start to the season. I actually re-watched the episode last night I was distracted during my first viewing. I thought Tyreese's death was handled well, and how it served as a flashback to past couple of seasons. I would've preferred him to stay alive and the guy he was with to die. But thems the breaks.

So obviously all those dead bodies were scraps from cannibals. Those body parts were cut too clean. Also, I noticed the wolves sign.

Can't wait for the rest of the season.

Black quota's? Almost half the cast is black. Maybe we should start talking about Asian quota's...Glenn holding it down at 1

Eh, had it expect those responses as soon as Tyreese was bit. It's like clockwork everytime. When can I start complaining about the lack of Hispanic characters?

I forgot this show came back on, then I got reminded by TWD page who spoiled his death. What the fuck are they doing? It hasn't even aired outside of the US yet, right?

Ty's death was good and I liked how sudden it was (even if the circumstance was "here hold the idiot ball for a few seconds") but man it just really points out how I'll probably only care for Daryl, Carol and Michonne if they die.

They really need to spend a lot more time making these characters likable.

Yeah, TWD Facebook and Twitter page has been really shitty about that lately. I remember they spoiled Beth's death for a lot of people by posting that pic of Daryl carrying her body like immediately after the East Coast premiere.

You'd think they would've learned after the outrage I'm sure they picked up on after that.

They said on Talking Dead that
it was foreshadowing something that was going to be explained in a way that suggested a new faction was going to be introduced.

I can't imagine much of a use for zombie torsos outside of having them stacked around the wall of a compound as living barb wire.

I'm glad that a single ninja zombie meant the end of such a terrible character.

The whole zombie torso thing seemed clearly to be an indicator of a new group.

The radio news talks about a group of cannibals who set people on fire and mutiliate them. Seems like the obvious link.

So we have a new enemy coming up i guess.

T Dawg was way better than Tyrese. Just compare how they died in the show, TDawg went out like a hero and Ty just crawled under some furniture and waited for help.

I believe that was supposed to be a "world news" report referring to another country, though that wasn't very obvious until some of the final comments (sounded like somewhere on the African continent).

On the Talking Dead they said
Tyrese was reminiscing back to when he was a kid and his father would leave the radio on all the time to teach them empathy by exposing them to strife in other regions and countries. They also said the use of Andrew Lincoln's voice for the reporter was a good pick in that it was Tyrese's imagination so you'd expect the reporter to be somewhat familiar sounding (to him) but not quite be able to place it.

Okay, this is really cool.

I wonder who this new group will be. Guess it wil be folks created specificly for the series?

What was on the radio was from the hallucinations that Ty was having so it was things that he has witnessed. He didn't know anything about they zombies being like that.

The indication that some group is coming up is when they hit the van and we seen the what someone has done to the zombies.

Exactly. Dude saved Carol with his last act by holding off zombies. Huge hero. They should have kept him alive and gave him the badass Tyrese moments from the comics instead of wasting it on this wimpy ass nega-Tyrese in the show.

Noah is totally useless, im not sure what he's for.

I didn't really enjoy the direction of episode, lots of lingering looks at the floor and car windows, the flashback bits with Tyrese were just weird, seeing the governor and stuff. I kind of understood it, i just thought it was daft.

It has in the UK, I think it's 16 hours or something after it has aired in America.
Still I think the facebook age spoiled something before an episode had even finished or something, after an episode has aired I think they don't care about people who haven't seen it yet.

coming back to the pics that tyrese was staring at.

Im pretty sure that Noah said he had twin brothers, as in 2 brothers as well as him. The pictures only showed 2 people and tyrese figured that there was Noah and his brother (who's dead on the bed), so he was safe, but actually there are 3 in total and then he turns round and the third little brother is there and chomps him.

That's what i thought anyway

Agreed although i enjoyed him up until he started getting all soft

Also, these ninja zombies are some bullshit

Dying by ninja zombie at this stage is cheap IMO. They are the toughest of zombie survivors and it should take something exceptional to kill them, not something stupid.

In fact it is pretty stupid that they aren't all going around in bikers jackets and leather trousers. Something bite proof. I thought they were going that way when Glenn started wearing riot gear.

Anyway, we are were we are with it.
