This season has upped their game in character development. They've dropped some of the philosophical rubbish that they normally spout too, which is a bonus. Well defined and evil villains, yup.

It's still the walking dead though. It's still got some of the usually wonkiness.

Enjoyed this episode a lot. The build up is good so far. Hopefully Jesus can talk Coral out of doing something stupid.

God everything about Carl and Enid was so bad. The Rollerskates. Carl's convenient timing of knowing exactly when the Saviors would show up.

Also, how did the Saviors manage to set up that zombie scene without anyone noticing?

There seemed to be a lot of immersion breaking plot conveniences in that episode.

I can't believe I'm saying this but.. I thought this was the best episode since the premiere (and one of the better ones since season 5). Lots of stuff actually happened and the dialogue was good for the most part. They've managed to make me care for Sasha a little.. For the first time in about 3 seasons. Maggie is incredible and she really owns her character. Her and Sasha connecting is a really cool idea. Only thing I didn't like too much was her giving the watch to Enid, thought that was kinda far fetched considering its association with both Glenn and Hershel. I get the point she made but she hardly knows Enid. The tractor shit was classic Maggie, loved that, thought it was a refreshing way to kill some zombies too.

Pretty good episode overall. Felt closer to season 1 in that there was a clear purpose that wasn't muddled and bloated by characters we don't give a shit about saying bullshit filler we don't want to hear.

The guy who interacted with Gregory did a good job. Jesus was well done.

I get that some people didn't like the skates but I actually thought Carl and Enid had good scenes that helped flesh out their characters in an interesting way. And they were actually doing something and talking about important things instead of just sitting around doing nothing like we've seen so many times before.

Loved that Jesus set Gregory up with giving up his liquor stash.

Maggie hopping on top of the trailer shouting orders. Big things in her future.

Impressed with Ninja Carl. So was Jesus.

so what is carl trying to do ? is this a sacrifice kind of thing because i dont get it. from all we have seen negan would kill carl and punish the group, maybe even wipe them out completely if carl tries to kill him

It makes the fact that Carl DIDN'T shoot Negan last week when he had the chance even dumber than it was at the time.

This week's ep should have preceded last week's, with Carl out of the picture.

Simon vs Gregory was good comedy, I loled. Jesus is funny too, I hope Carl's stupidity doesn't get him killed or worse.

So the Saviors came in, opened the gates from the outside, parked a car, glued all the doors and windows shut, nobody noticed and then turned on the radio? I guess the hilltop doesn't have anyone stand watch.

OMG why does Enid exist. She is such a waste of a screen and frame.

Other than that, good episode.

I enjoyed Trevor's performance more than Negan in last week's episode by miles.

Did I mention that Jesus is awesome?

Carl is bloodlusted and not thinking straight. He wants to kill some fools on some borderline sadistic note.

I hope Carl's stupidity doesn't get him killed or worse.

I think the opposite will happen. Carl's gonna bring it to the Saviors, hes gonna rek their shit.

Here comes badass Carl. He gonna fuck some shit up.

Btw, Maggie was hilarious with her tractor steamrolling zombies. Amazing.

Another episode down, another episode where Carl's shit acting tries to ruin every scene he's in. Doesn't help he's acting besides the equally poor Enid, too.

Carl is such a dumbass.

I'm guessing Negan will catch him and they'll talk about shit and then Carl will be convinced to stay with him or something.

No way Carl is going to die and it would be pretty dumb to kill Jesus this early when he hasn't been established.

Well defined and evil villains, yup..

Don't forget one-dimensional.

There is still nothing more to Negan other than "Do as I say or I bat you with my stick." That's all there is to his character so far, at least in the TV show. It's quite frankly very boring.

Simon/Trevor is a more interesting villain at this point. We saw that he is in part motivated by a desire to impress his boss, when he wanted to take credit for getting the booze for Negan.

Dwight is the most interesting villain by far right now though. I love a villain that is filled with inner turmoil and doubt. It's actually interesting.

That's his role in the group, if he swayed he would be immediately killed by his own men.

You can't stay in power with a group like that and be soft, he has to work to ensure he has the respect of everyone and not only that they need to fear him.

Agreed!

I think Chandler will do fine. He usually struggles with the more mild/quieter scenes but I thought he did okay in this most recent episode. However, he's done great in the more intense scenes for years. That inevitable Negan/Carl episode will be great!

Not saying he has to go soft, but there's gotta be more to his personality.

Even with Simon we at least saw he has an appreciation for art. That's something. With Negan there's nothing else to him. That we know of, anyway.

Did anyone catch the preview for upcoming episodes this season on talking dead?

Currentish Comic spoilers about upcoming plots
Could have sworn there was a scene with multiple zombies that all seemed a little 'off' and uniformish, almost like they were wearing masks like the whisperers ... or maybe it was just late and I was imagining things

You weren't imagining things, check the ep 8 synopsis on IMDb.

And if you consider the image AMC posted on their Instagram account (comic spoilers)
are they trying to avoid the time jump? The show just passed issue #100, the comic is on #160 and just about to wrap up the Whisperers arc, and there's not a whole lot of content in those last 60 issues as they slowed the pace down even more, so potentially the show could be out of source material by next year?

That episode, by definition, was not filler...
No episode this season has been, yet after every episode someone calls it filler. People just toss that word around as a negative for this show constantly, I don't get it.

I really don't think that synopsis is correct but we shall see.

comic book spoilers:
The show is not running out of source material by next year. There's like no chance that Gimple and Kirkman go through 60 issues of material in 2 seasons. The war against Negan will just be starting by the end of season 7, if filming info is correct. They extend everything in the show, no way they start flying through material now. Kirkman knows what he's doing and won't let the show catch the comic unless he wants it to. His other comic, Outcast, isn't even 20 issues ahead of the show and he has no plans to let it catch up. Ya the comic slowed down after AOW but there was still 30 issues of buildup to the whisperer war. I bet they at the minimum get a season and a half out of those 30 issues. Believe me I would love to see the whisperers and the current comic material, but let's not rush to get to that point.

Eek, just going by Jesus and Sasha's ender interaction about finding Negan, I feel like Sasha will be positioned as one of the bigger deaths by or on the season finale.

She has no comic counterpart besides a bit of Andrea but... [comic spoilers]
she might be positioned to take Holly's death... who was also Abe's love interest.
I hope not. The actress is the best crier out of the whole group and Tumblr needs more GIF moments for the Maggie/Sasha shipping.

Why did Carl find it necessary to wreak the car when Enid wasn't in that much danger? I've got to think that working cars are pretty precious commodity that they wouldn't want to throw away lightly.

I don't get why people are hating on Carl for being the irrational rage driven badass everyone wanted Rick to be last week.

What a borefest. This was not character development. It was mundane, but not mundane in the sense that I want to see how the post-apocalyptic society goes around their day. That whole scene with Carl was dumb. There is no other way to describe it. The pacing was off and I was confused where the hell that car with the speaker came from. Oh wait it was explained later.

I'm wondering why the petrol hasn't gone bad after all this time and they still run.

I think they answered that by showing him playing darts earlier. One eye+ no formal driving lessons= crashing a car when trying to run over a zombie.

Carl and Enid on roller skates might be the dumbest thing I've seen on this show. I can't even find shoes my size at the store when I need them and they happen to find skates in their size on the side of the road.

The guy who plays Simon is hilarious.

Better episode than last weeks but I think the one with Tara and Heath won't be as boring as everyone thinks its going to be. I like character focused episodes.

It was another slow episode but not a bad one.

Nowhere near as terrible as the Carol/Morgan/Ezekiel one. That was "dropping your birthday cake right before you blow the candles out" level of disappointment.

I must admit I do cringe every time they say Jesus name. It just sounds so weird....

I like the Carl/Enid thing. Carl is nowhere near as bad an actor as the Gregory guy was. That guy was awful.

As much as I like Simon as a character and his delivery of lines, can't unsee Trevor.

Anyone know who next weeks will be about? if it isn't a spoiler etc....

The thing about Carl's hair....
I think I've cracked why it's so long and unkempt.

Remember in Season 1 when Lori was cutting Carl's hair and Shane comes over and says 'you oughtta try shaving, the day will come when you'll be begging for one of your momma's haircuts' or something like that.

Lori died..... From memory Carl had relatively short hair until right up to that point. It's been long since. That can't be coincidence.

Now it's probably something to do with the eye too.
