‘Metal Gear Solid’ Producers Are Training Younger Developers to Continue the Series

No Kojima, no sale.

I let him do all the crazy shit that nobody should be allowed to get away with, because he earned it with awesome, original and entertaining games.

If you have confidence in these new developers let them make their own, new, great games. Stop recycling old IPs. Metal Gear is over.

Wasn't this ultimately what Kojima always wanted? To teach others how to carry on the franchise after him..?🤔

Edit: Remember, MGS3: Snake Eater was supposed to be "his last game". (😅yes, even back then we knew that was bs, but still...)

How about no? The quirkyness in MGS used to be something hidden in the game, not the main part of it. Just compare MGS1 with 4. On former you have some funny stuff along the way, in the latter we have a dude shitting himself as main part of the plot.

I'd love to see all MGS with the level of MGS1 quirkyness.

Kojima, whatever you think of his approach, brings *a lot* of things to the table that you don't often see in games. On one hand there are ideas and themes that are clearly meant as serious statements, but he offsets the preachyness and (arguably) pretension with more light-hearted and playful touches like wall-breaks and jokes. Then there are his sensibilities in terms of cinematic presentation and technical polish, a maximalist approach to content, meta referencing to other media and other creatives in various media.

And of course throughout, a strong commitment to quality gameplay and mechanics.

Oh, and of course he's an amazing promoter and pitch-guy, with a real-flair for crafting trailers and gimmicks. He makes big games happen.

You don't have to like him, but he is inarguably a legitimate "auteur" director. In my opinion he's an anomaly in gaming. There is no individual that is his equal in terms of having a salesworthy brand identity so specifically personal.

Which isn't to say he makes the best games in the world, or is the best game designer in the world, or is the only game director with a signature style or flair. I'm just saying, you cannot subtract him from his works, without the work being changed beyond recognition in the process. You cannot clone a Kojima game.

As they should.
They can try and fail and the previous games will always be there. What do we have to gain if they don't try at all?
Nothing.
If they don't want a MGS with Kojima, they are better off starting a fresh IP with fresh leaders.

Trying to continue MGS when they were the ones who didn't want to make any more is just insulting. They are willing to abandon everything to put money into gambling, what made you think they they are serious about making a good game after all this?

It's like all the Terminator films made without James Cameron. Some of them are watchable but most would be better off being their own separate IPs. if you are going to rip out the soul of the game then I would rather you never try.

Imagine if you say the same thing about making a sequel to Chrono Trigger. I would HATE you. (And no, Chrono Cross is not a sequel.)

I find it hilarious that people who didn't make MGS, is trying to train other people on how to make MGS. It is like a Vegan chef trying to teach others how to cook steak.

Count me out. It's not gonna be the same without Kojima's writing + wacky gameplay ideas. And afaik, he took a lot of the old team with him, so their contributions are gone as well.

Plus there's the fact that delta runs like doo doo trash, but I digress...

It's not even just Kojima, he took a decent amount of talent with him, some of which likely came up with gameplay ideas/systems for him.

Hard to fix that level of brain drain, but given how good MGS: Rising is...I'm slightly hopeful a different team of people could throw together some different flavor of something fun based on the IP.

Konami owns Metal Gear, and they can do with it whatever they want.

Of course they will use it, one of the most popular gaming franchises in history, instead of risking it with some new IP.

Kojima himself is irrelevant at this point, as far as MG is concerned.

You think that? Then people must have LOVED Dragon Age : The Veilguard. A sequel to a beloved franchise made by people who didn't care for it.

Seriously, Microsoft thought that making Halo games was so easy they can just throw a team together and make more without the original crew. And we end up with 343 Industries. Or Blizzard's attempts at making Diablo 3 onwards without Blizzard North.

IPs are worthless if the people who made them good are gone. I had been watching this happen every gaming generation without fail. I don't expect that to change this time.

What could possibly go wrong...

I don't care about Dragon Age in general, nor about other people's tastes.

Nor about Hideo Kojima, his team, and their Death Stranding.

I only care about Metal Gear, and Konami owns it.

Why don't you just write "metal Gear" on any random shovelware 3 dollar game box and be happy that you have a metal gear game? Because clearly the only thing you like about it is the NAME.

And Konami own the Metal Gear name the same way EA owns the Command and Conquer name. It means nothing other than they get to have game with those words in the title. Looks like you are too inexperienced to know what it feels like to buy a game sequel only to realize it isn't what you wanted in the box.

You will learn. We all learn eventually.

Just remake all the games. That's enough meat to chew with how much updating they need.

Then remake them in VR - knock yourselves out.

they better send some of these young developers to go on training programme under Kojima Production.

in the end Kojima is the essence of the series.

i get the feeling the younger people of current Kojima Production is the one gonna carry the torch with the spiritual successor Physint than those at Konami.

Nope. Just milking the series at a lower production effort. Like Halo with 343, Kingdom Hearts with Osaka and not the Final Fanatsy team, etc. All trash. Seya never.

Now he's a fart-sniffing egomaniac; oh how the mighty have fallen.

And how is his suppose to teach them if he was fired and deliberately cut off from his team without warning, thus no longer have anything to do with them?

It's true he poached a lot of the original staff, but some of the original developers must have stayed behind I'd assume (if they made MGS Survive). The idea is that at least someone stayed behind from the original team(s) to carry on the franchise, even if they weren't all taught directly by him.

There has to be one angry Tetsuo-like guy who has worked under Kojima, in the shadows, for far too long. Some cliche'd anime-like antagonist desperate to prove he is the reason MGS was a success.

kek
Metal Gear without Kojima isn't Metal Gear.
Just look at any other franchise that no longer has its creator involved.
Good luck fucking up this series even more, Konami.
