007 First Light - Reviews Thread

I'm not seeing any of this. Combat animations are awful. Cinematic presentation is shit when half of the animations look straight out of True Crime on PS2.

I'd recommend to wait a month once the glaze phase has settled.
I recommend you play the fucking game, before shitting from a high place on people that actually PLAYED the game.

Congrats to IOI, they deserve the success. After being dumped by Square they became independent, which definitely puts a ton of pressure on the studio, but they demonstrate again that they know how to make a great game.

Moneypenny is black, his mentor is black and his boss is an Asian woman. This is a 10-15 point boost for the Metacritic right off the bat.

Once you adjust for that, mid-high 70s looks about right for the game itself imo.
Surely Q, Bond and countless others being white, the chicks being smoking hot and Bond shagging them is a 10-15 deduction as well. So lets call it even on the woke review points.

His best mate, friendly competition is white and his girl who is a friend is a hot white girl.

I don't understand any of what you've written.
That girl beats him in training in a physical exercise - great way to set up James Bond. And at one point she talks about a Kung-fu movie poster having 'grotesque masculine tropes' or something. There's another line where she makes fun of "
"tradwives". I mean once again, it is realistic. You definitely feel like you're playing a modern version of James Bond.

And yes, they do have the nondescript white guy friend there in the training sequences, you're right.

the Gfinity 10/10 is surprising - that reviewer has been generally on point for the most part and gives me hope it's a good game

which leads me to ask, GAF, which review outlets and reviewers do you consider based and trustworthy these days?

Will probably betray him.

100% KGB.

I thought he would betray him, its the goldeneye....typical bond move. We shall see.

What?

And, on that poster scene you can literally choose to have the masculine poster. It lets you choose what you want. Go for it. I chose the Kung Fu poster. This is a shared digs. I couldnt give a fuck about her grandmas painting. Two guys and one girl! deal with it sexy lady friend! she can put her grandmas painting up in her own house.

"When??"

*explains when*

I havent seen the scene yet, but Bond should never lose to a woman in a straight sprint or any kind of foot race. A gymnastics routine sure, or maybe a obstacle course that requires more finesse and agility then stamina/endurance/speed.

The version of Bond they are going for is a heightened character, peak human physicality (if he wasn't an agent he might as well be an Olympian).

He is the best agent to have ever lived, and this is him super young so while his emotional core may be weak and he may be rash and impulsive and not the best detective yet.... he shouldn't be losing any sprint to a woman unless that woman is the Olympic gold medalist in running.

These are obstacle courses. He's competing against other 00 candidates who are months ahead of him in traning.

They're all out of breath and the guy tells Bond 'can't believe you pulled that move' and then the girl says 'I'm impressed'. And then Bond tells her 'Yeah but you still beat me'. And she says 'Of course... but still.'

Woke tropes 101.
That's not a woke trope man. She is a highly trained spy that has been on the 00 program for far longer than Bond, who at the point was a Navy airman in training, not exactly the most badass in the world. The whole point of the training montage was to demonstrate how far behind he was the entire group, who I need to remind you are supposed to be the elite of the elite, not your average person off the street. What's more, Bond quickly surpasses them all (like in a matter of weeks/months), even Monroe who is significantly larger than him. Not only that he shows he has significant better intuition then everyone else - because he is James Bond.

Nor is everyone a woman or black person. Moneypenny is mixed race, Greenway is black, and M is Indian. Q is a white man, so is Monroe, Webb, and Stephen Bright. Its even explicitly pointed out that the only reason M got the job was because she was a safe political pick, and nobodies first choice, but a compromise candidate. The mix of ethnicities and genders is pretty reflective of modern day London.

Not to mention all the other things that the outrage farmers here seem to ignore, Bond getting with multiple woman, basically most woman wanting to bang him, the woman being almost universally attractive, etc...

Bro was so busy being offended he didn't even noticed that other recruits were there for 6 months and had more experience and training. I also like how he conveniently skipped a fact that a scene with girl besting him in combat was like a blink of an eye moment that was there only to indicate he was training with others beyond a guy he had a few combat encounters during that montage

Also, this scene is set at the time when Bond was just recruited to MI6 and started his training. He's not even a spy yet. Quite contrary, he's the new guy who has to quickly catch up

That scene I mentioned comes very late in the training montage. But if they clearly show Bond beating that girl later on and being a better agent than her - then I take your point. I haven't seen it all play out. I specifically said the opening was a bit rough - can't speak on the whole game.

And I said it was realistic didn't I? It is kind of funny - they depict Bond as a fairly brash, confident young guy - so you have to wonder what he makes of the world he is surrounded by - it's kind of like an unspoken subtext the game can't really acknowledge.

I hope they announce DLC, and its just Roger Moore wrestling Grace Jones on repeat.

Perfectly put and the reality of the scenes, but these weirdo's won't want to hear it.

It seems vanishingly unlikely Bond wouldn't immediately destroy the female candidates in a physical contest unless he is injured or letting them win. Do they depict the existing male candidates as vastly superior to the existing female candidates in these physical contests?

It is probably just a case of D&D rules (no difference in capability between sexes) being in effect, which has become the standard in modern storytelling no matter how jarring it is with reality.

Niggas calling the woke police is a parody at this point. iOi developers are based as fuck, they pushed back on heavy crits for the Hitman series for years. This looks like a well balanced game to me.

Bond has had 0 training. Like at all in the program. He is being fast tracked. He gets his ass kicked by a dude at the start of his introduction to the rest of the squad who are like ex sas etc.

The opening of this game is kind of rough. Bond seems to be the only white guy in Britain working in the govt - just surrounded by women and minorities bossing him around and beating him in training and whatever else. I guess that's true to life though lol. But it adds a kind of somber note of realism. This game is really concerned with being diverse. Usually when a game stars a white guy they unfortunately feel the need to compensate.

I suggest therapy for both of you. Smh.

Bond has had 0 training.
I don't find this compelling given he has already been portrayed as a very capable soldier and the gulf between male physical capability and female physical capability is enormous, but that is why I asked if it portrays the existing male candidates as vastly superior to the existing female candidates.

No issue with that.

Absolutely agree with everything you said. You triggered the wokies too, lol.

Bond is an absolute CHAD in the game. Sure he gets a bit humbled in the training camp, but it was very clearly specified he's behind the course by 6 months, so he's in catching up mode. And by the time first mission rolls up... well, let's just say it's pretty clear who's the top dog.

They're absolutely doing Bond justice, despite him being younger - he's cheeky, charismatic and capable. The actor sells the role amazingly well and the game reinforces that image.
