Scott's a notch or so too inconsistent for me to get excited for Prometheus.

I've chosen to delay my misgivings about his last few films to let people enjoy the hype. I can barely be critical about the guy in a real conversation with someone without them spouting off that prometheus is going to be the second coming of god and will give us all super powers.

It was a tough choice, but Beasts of the Southern Wild is just too damn good to ignore. Doesn't look like anyone on GAF is interested in though, unfortunately.
This is the first I've heard of it and after watching the trailer, its definitely on my radar. It looks charming.

I don't know why or how but these threads always get me interested in so many movies. I'm not that into the Prometheus hype like others, but the Sarah Polley film, To Rome with Love, the Steve Carell/Keira Knightley movie, Magic Mike, and the number 1 film all have me interested. Most of them I probably won't get to see until DVD though.

Have you seen the trailer? Or Wanted? It looks like an fat turd.

Wanted was great. Trailer looked great. I actually didn't know it was the guy who did Wanted before, thanks for letting me know. Now I'm actually more interested.

You've put far shittier looking movies in these lists before. Especially on the matinee lists.

I mean fuck, there's only four weeks in a month, surely there's room to at least mention all the wide releases coming out, even if you're not personally interested in some of them. It's better for discussion to have a convenient comprehensive list of movies coming out this month at the top of the thread, instead of just the movies you're going to see. Just put the rest in an "Also coming out" section, or even a "Skip" section because you like to tell people what to do and make up your mind on movies before you've even seen them.

But I guess I shouldn't be surprised, the way you like to annoyingly force your taste in movies on this board as if it were fact, because you write for a website that you like to link to constantly (6 times in this thread's OP alone, for example), so that makes your opinion mean more than everyone else's.

Steps to fixing your problem with someone else's top 10 choices:

1. Make your own thread.

That is all.

Prometheus, Brave, and Seeking a Friend for the End of The World have been films I've been looking forward to for a long time. Great month.

If you want to discuss other films, there's box office threads, OT's and recent movies thread. This is meant to be a preview of what I, personally, think looks the best and many of the films I've already seen. It's obviously not going to match up with 100% of users, as it shouldn't.

If you want a list of every major movie coming out there are a million other, better ways to find it online. I'm never going to highlight movies that look like total shit to me, sorry.

Then don't make these threads. Post it as an article on your stupid site. If everybody on this board made a "THESE ARE THE MOVIES I'M GOING TO SEE!" thread, the board would be ridiculously cluttered. Why do you get the special privilege to make a thread about what you, personally, are interested in seeing?

The "What are you watching?" in the thread title implies that you want this to be a discussion. If you want it to be a discussion, why not create an OP that encourages discussion, even of opinions that you don't agree with? If you don't want it to be a discussion, then why are you making a thread in the first place? Because it's a good excuse to throw out a ton of links to your site?

EDIT: Oh wait. I just noticed that these are articles on your stupid site.

You are literally just posting articles from your website and passing them off as threads.

Wow.

I've seen people juniored and even banned for that kind of shameless self-promotion before.

I've been doing these monthly threads for three years. If the majority of people didn't appreciate them or I was doing something bannable, they'd be long gone.

Because half of these films will never open in my area

A few will be on VOD, but I just go by all releases the first date they open theatrically. It'd be impossible to factor in other releases. For instance, Moonrise Kingdom probably hits most other areas in June but it was #1 last month. Same goes for Beasts in July.

its gotta get old wading through the same responses every month, expendable. maybe you need a disclaimer

Prometheus and Brave for sure.

I really want to see Moonrise Kingdom, anyone have an idea of when it'll open up in more locations?

I remember when I use to joke in threads about Expendable linking to his site. Now it seems people are actually complaining about it.

I like these threads as both a reminder for movies I need to check out and a heads up on something I missed. Can't understand how someone could get worked up over these.

Anyways, Prometheus for sure, Brave maybe, and Beasts if possible. Might check out snow white this weekend if I get a chance

I absolutely hated Haywire, so Magic Mike can only be on the upswing for me.

I've never liked the "you should watch these movies because I say so" tone of the threads but that's easy enough to ignore,. The links to his site are news to me because I've never clicked a link in any of these threads. It's kind of pathetic if he's linking to his own site a half dozen times in the post, and flat out spammy if he's just reposting entire articles from his site.

I think the problem KevinCow has (and I agree to an extent) is that the point of the thread as titled and described in the OP should be discussion about films you're going to see this month. But the truth is the thread is here to drive hits to another site.

The posts/articles themselves are well done (even if I don't give a shit about 90% of the movies in the list), but the fact that it's so filled with links to his site makes it feel anywhere from not genuine to downright spammy.

Snow White and the Huntsman
The Cabin In The Woods (yeah, Australia got it last)

Not sure about Brave. Am I the only one who's not feeling the trailers and the concept of the story so far? It doesn't look that interesting to me.

Any early word on Seeking a Friend? Is it looking to be a solid flick? Probably going to go watch it with my GF, looks like a well balanced date movie.

Beat EviLore at pool.
Brave
Prometheus
Fuck it Abe Vampire Hunter. Looks like utter shit but fucking awesome shit. Just awesome summer blockbuster fun.

Need more foreign action. Sleepless Night and The Raid have me fiending for more. They ended up being the best films of the year so far (John Carter runner up)

Anyways for me:

Prometheus (though my hype shot way down recently)
Brave
that movie Expendable put at number 1, it looks interesting
Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter on DVD I guess.

Beasts of the Southern Winds sounds like my kind of film. Will probably see it once it hits blu-ray.

Otherwise looking forward to Prometheus, To Rome with Love (if only because Woody allen is acting in a film again.:p), Brave (not really feeling the trailers tho).

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is either going to be amazing, and not in the way that wins oscars, or downright terrible.

No middle ground.

Easily my two favorite movies of the year. American directors need to take notes that action movies don't have to be CG explosions after CG explosions.

BioShock Infinite is like playing some homeless guy's vivid imagination
I would be seeing Prometheus tonight if it wasn't for the fact that my girlfriend is refusing to go with me (BUT ITS SCAAARY).

Doesn't help that all my mates went last night, as I was convinced I'd be going today. Sucks.

So, how about fuck em all and go by yourself? Is this really an issue?

Prometheus
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Maybe Brave, if it turns out to be one of Pixar's best.

These days two movies in one of the summer blockbuster months is really good, for me. This is shaping up to be an excellent year for film, IMO.

I just got back from seeing Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. The trailers for it really doesn't show what it really is: a sad fucking movie. Maybe the first movie in a while that's really hit me.

Everything was going just fine. Little laughs here and there, nothing (too) raunchy. Then they finally hit the road and that's when everything slowly shifts to drama.

Mostly sold on the movie, I spoiler'd my only complaint about it under "Major spoiler".

Major spoiler - read at your own risk if you care:
Romance between Dodge (Steve Carell) and Penny (Keira Knightley) wasn't played out well. I would've preferred that they remain friends. It honestly would've been really refreshing not to see the male and female character get together, but I guess the writer couldn't resist. Nonetheless, the end with them lying in bed together (no, not post-coital) waiting for the asteroid to hit was still a good scene to end the movie off with. Seeing Penny clearly scared with Dodge having her tell her life's story as the chaos was reaching them (wasn't visible, but you hear the sound of destruction) was good.

For the record: they don't end up reuniting with Olivia ("the one that got away"). Instead, Dodge leaves a note on her doorstep and leaves, realizing that Penny is the girl he had always been looking for.

Minor spoiler (really minor):
In one scene, after finding out that Dodge's wife had been cheating on him, he bought window cleaner and got drowsy off cough syrup. He tried to kill himself by drinking the window cleaner, and managed to pass out. He woke up with a note on him saying "Sorry", and a dog on his feet. Dodge decides to name the dog Sorry.

The soundtrack, I should add, is magnificent.
