I'm not the biggest fan of the "In my day" line of thinking but man, travelling back in the day was pretty fucking dope.

Remember when you could drive right up to the entrance to the terminal to get picked up/dropped off instead of paying exorbitant prices for 5 minutes of parking?
Pretty sure every major US airport still allows you to do this.

Reminder that the TSA has a 95% failure rate in undercover tests.
They are nothing more than a placebo to make people feel safe.

This is why I always opt out of the millimeter wave scanner. Not because of privacy or radiation or any of that shit. It's because all the TSA is doing is making my experience awkward and uncomfortable for no real reason to begin with, so the least I can do is return the favor.

I'd say they're even less than a placebo. Their simple incompetence regularly makes me feel less safe at airports. Coupled with how fucking rude they are to everybody and how it increases panic trying to get through security, I think they're a net negative for safety.

no joke.

The last time we flew, was in january, we had a 5 am flight. So we're there at 2 am. My wife and i have been flying with kids for almost 3 years now, which means we're used to the deal with formula/milk powdered forumala etc.

Well these geniuses decide they can't test the prepackaged, sealed formula, without opening it.
Wife: why?
TSA Male Agent: because its sealed
wife: what do you mean? we fly all the time with these and its never been a problem. (note once opened the shelf life is only like 6 hours or so, which would have been our whole trip there.)
TSA: well i have to open them, they're sealed
Wife: no you can't open them
TSA: ok well then you can get a pat down
Wife: what, why?
somewhere at this point a female TSA agent comes over to pat my wife down
TSA: you're refusing the pat down
Wife: i never refused the pat down, i just asked why i was going to be pat down
at this point the female TSA agent with a brain says we can scan the formula without opening it, just take the outer packaging off of it.

crisis averted.

TSA checkpoints, where prepackaged formula with the factory seal still on it is considered a bomb threat.

Honestly, even if I saw an unmanned line I wouldn't go through it. I wouldn't want to deal with the headaches that would result from them having to hunt me down afterwards.

How did your manager react when you told him you missed 11 passengers because you were too busy browsing GAF?

They did screw up badly (I still don't get why it was unmanned) but you love jumping the gun on implying people are racists in many forum threads. That's your mental damage.

...hey look I understand being proud of your job but it's pretty hard to not assume, after 16 years, that the entire purpose of the TSA is to harass enough brown people so that white americana stays feeling safe

I mean, it's not like there isn't a lifetime's worth of research showing that people really are racist but go ahead and get your knickers in a twist over an obvious and lazy throwaway joke.

I'm confused at people asking how this happens. Like, I don't know how this doesn't happen all the time except for the fact that people generally understand how security checkpoints work and follow the rules.

There's just a bunch of ropes to guide security lines, it's trivial to walk through if a line is closed down, the only thing stopping you is that someone sees what you are doing. Most bystanders won't really care or question it, so then it's a matter of did the TSA security agent see you.

They scan your boarding pass when you board at the gate, I assumed it would indicate if you cleared security
