I never understood why they made Sega Saturn so incredibly difficult to program you'd need PhDs. Shit was cray.
Blame Nakayama. Always blame Nakayama. Hell, he never knew what he was doing back then anyway. Anyone who fires Tom Kalinske because he's insecure as shit deserves to get out of the industry.I never understood why they made Sega Saturn so incredibly difficult to program you'd need PhDs. Nakayama is definitely to be blamed, but wasn't Kalinske who gave the OK for the 32x to be made?Blame Nakayama. Always blame Nakayama. Hell, he never knew what he was doing back then anyway. Anyone who fires Tom Kalinske because he's insecure as shit deserves to get out of the industry.
Best STG on Saturn indeed. Well I´m also partial to Soukyugurentai. It would have been nice to have Segata ads on any of those two, I wonder if he could have handled the awesome of the Raizing shmups.
Rip Bomberman/Hudson, too. ;__;love the bomberman one the most RIP sanshiro
I can't recall at the momenthaven't read up in a while. I also don't know how trustworthy the dread SegaBase articles are anymore.Nakayama is definitely to be blamed, but wasn't Kalinske who gave the OK for the 32x to be made?
he could beat them on max rank using only his face
Coincidentally 7 years ago, this week in history, SEGA fanboys at UK Resistance launched Blue Sky in Game Campaign.
I was there. Bless them.

Garegga definitely has one of my favorite soundtracks in all of STG-dom. Too bad the Saturn copy is ridiculously expensive ^^;
I have Soukyugurentai, Shienryu, Dodonpachi, Layer Section/Galactic Attack and of course RS... need Garegga and Batsugun... anything else people would highly recommend? Preferably, games that won't break the bank.
Also, my favorite Segata Sanshiro ad is definitely the Shining Force 3 dance party.

Give Gunbird or Sengoku Blaede a try. You need more Psikyo in your diet.
I own the arcade PCB, so #yoloGaregga definitely has one of my favorite soundtracks in all of STG-dom. Too bad the Saturn copy is ridiculously expensive ^^;
You failed the test.I owned a Saturn for 6 months until I sold it. It was a boring machine with mostly shit games and not worth the space it was occupying.
Sure. It's close enough to Fujioka's career, anyway.In my headcanon I always consider Segata Sanshiro to be Kamen Rider 1's post-Rider life after Shocker's demise.
Do you have any of the Konami compilations? The Gradius and Salamander collections are great value for your money, I don´t think any of those go for over $100. Hell the Gradius one is worth it for Gradius II alone. A quick ebay search show a Gradius copy for $30 and other for $80, and there´s a Salamander listing for $60.
There´s also the Parodius titles, but I´m afraid not everyone is fond of that.

I second this, more Psikyo is always good and I love the Strikers 1945 series, though those are not necessarily cheap. If you like Taito STGs there´s also Darius Gaiden and Gekirindan, though I´m not sure on the price on those.
Yeah, I have the Konami comps for PSP actually... love Gradius II, Gaiden and Salamander.
Will take a look, yeah the only Psikyo I really have experience with is Strikers 1945 which I've actually run into a whole bunch of times at various arcades around here.
Will take a look at Gekirindan, it's the first I've heard of it. I'm not huge on the Darius series apart from the great aesthetics and of course the ZUNTATA soundtracks.

Yup, especially Salamander Deluxe Pack for Salamander 2.Do you have any of the Konami compilations? How is Sengoku Blade? I've seen it around and been meaning to pick it up, but I'm a little gun shy from my experience with Sol Divide. I like Sol Divide, particularly for its theme/aesthetics, but maneuvering feels a bit clunky with the character sprite.Give Gunbird or Sengoku Blaede a try. You need more Psikyo in your diet.
I really like the Strikers series. Strikers 1945 is the default disc for my kiosk, as it's a good pick-up-and-play game, and also noob-friendly for visitors.I second this, more Psikyo is always good and I love the Strikers 1945 series, though those are not necessarily cheap. Did you import? The wealth of 2D shooters and fighters is amazing. Even discounting those, the domestic releases were nothing to scoff at either: Games such as VF2, Sega Rally, Astal, Panzer Dragoon series, Night Warriors, SFA2, Bomberman, etc., definitely made the system worthwhile.I owned a Saturn for 6 months until I sold it. Great manual art and Anita secret character ftw!Just bought the import version of Marvel Super Heroes for $20 shipped. PUMPED! Digging out that 1MB RAM cart now.

It seems like S0L's challenged the community to make a nice, organized poll on the official Sega forums. So if any of those people who wanted a chance to get characters like Opa-Opa back or see some Phantasy Star love, they might want to head over there.

Segata neoGAFer, I bet he exists on GAFer in hidden form, waiting to pounce like the night ninja he is. I miss you Segata, come on and critique things with aplomb!
The Saturn looks so cool. I never had one.![]()
15 years late, but i hope this makes amends for my past misjudgement
RIP segata
p.s. langrisser v is awesome
