WTF... Did Joanna timewarp to old time Persia or something? What happened futuristic neon HK-style world, this looks like Aladdin.

I for one fully expect to game to bowl us over when it does launch. For the time being, however, I'm just going to enjoy watching PD0's visuals improve and see just how much Rare can do with the time that they have.

Hmm, for once I'm actually liking what I see. Not bad, not bad at all.

i guess all that shit about 1/3 the power of the earlier kits or whatever is correct, its gonna be interesting to see this as it gets closer and closer to release

the reason it looks better than the other pics is probably these pics from when it was on the Gamecube :lol

That is the demo map that they showed in the infamous mtv presentation, so is very unlikely

That's a multiplayer shot.

Single player will look better. :D

I told you not to doubt RARE, Wellie!!! :)

Much, much improved. But the other released screenshots already showed this. (graphical enhancements I mean) I'm still not feeling that next-gen vibe graphically, but everything can't be Gears of War.

I really don't get where this "that's multiplayer, single player will look better!" business is coming from. I can't recall any game that looked substantially different between the two. Everyone thought Halo 2 would, which is where I'm guessing all this started, but it really didn't.

Actually now that I think about it, the Splinter Cell games do. But I think those are a special case due to the tightly controlled nature of their single player campaigns. I can't think of a single other game that is signifigantly different graphically.

Is it just me, or do these pics look an awful lot like the N64 villa levels?

That was a fantastic level in PD and yeah, the tan buildings here, which seem to be from some sort of Middle-Eastern area, look similar to the tan Spanish-style buildings in that level. Looks nice.

I think that this game, like all of Rare's console titles, will look fantastic...even above just about everthing else when it releases. If anything, Rare is one of the most consistently impressive developers when it comes to visuals. Can't wait to see the single player game, where it'll likely be even better looking because it'll be focused on set pieces and impressive goal-oriented and more exploration-heavy level layouts..allowing for more interesting shit. Mutiplayer has to be more functional and less showy for the ease of use factor, IMO. At least, that's how virtually every FPS works.

Well, I can think of some other games, but I don't want to get in a pissing match. :P

I really don't care about graphics too much, but I do want a game to look next gen if it is on a next gen console. These pics don't scream next gen to me yet, but things look like they are getting better. More importantly than the graphics, I hope online co-op makes it into the game. That'll make me really happy.

looks like rare is about to make a comeback in a major way :O

I think so. Time will tell, but I still believe that Nintendo will come to regret giving them up...even though they'd never admit it. I just read a fansite interview with some of the Rare guys talking about their proprietary middleware for X360...making their own development for the platform much more efficient and speedy. Things like that make me think they'll deliver more than ten titles on the platform, easily. As they have shown with the N64, they can pump those bitches out when they got a platform wired.

In what way does this look better? It still doesn't look like a next-gen game. Nothing about these screenshots isn't possible on Xbox 1.

this looks just like the shit htey showed on mtv, and ive seen halo 2 shit thats more impressive.

No shit. It looks pretty much the same as the other ones. Oh well, I want to believe, I want to believe, I WILL believe.

I just want to say to Rare:

Cancel PDZ and give me the spiritual successor to Diddy Kong Racing I've wanted since 1997. You have it within your power, make it so.

The player models aren't that great for enemies in Chaos Theory, but the enviroments look phenomenal. Those aren't renders, either. I've been playing the game on my XBox and the enviroment looks that damn good. Who would have known how much bump mapping would make enviroments look much more detailed.

The detail on those enviroments are not that impressive. Just because it doesn't look like the crap they showed earlier (mainly because it is a digi-cam shot which hides imperfections) doesn't mean it looks good for a next gen game. They still have a lonnnng way to go to even get near GOW.

You've got to be friggin kidding me. First off, the damned game doesn't look like that when you actually play it. No, it doesn't, not on Xbox. Second, what in the hell do these two games have in common? Dark cellar game vs huge, bright, wide-open environment with multiple players.

It's as if you want the damned game to look bad.

Yes it does look like that 2 of those shot are definitely gameplay shots.

Looks better. Not next-gen but better. Make those boys code 24 hours a day for the next 5 months, and then it might look next gen.

I think that's basically all it is, the Xbox version with a few extra effects. Microsoft doesn't seem to cope well with the fact that Rare is slow as hell.

Probably showed it too early, then yanked it on poor reception, thus why we're getting blurry, leaked looking screenshots rather than shiny looking trailers or competent captures..

I personally don't think this'll surface until sometime late in 2006 at least, but I'd like to be wrong.

They need to give Rare whatever resources they need to revamp this game and make the best looking best playing 360 game and I'm not just talking money. Programmers, 3D Modlers, Artists (lord they need better artist) whatever.

Well, that'd be nice, if Rare still has the talent capable of pulling off a game on par with their better N64 efforts that is. Between the license changes, rush work and platform swapping for them this generation it's anyones guess.

I don't think MS will be rushing this out however, no matter the case. The opinion of current day Rare is already pretty poor, and having them rush, then botch their flagship original franchise wouldn't bode well for the mindset of people on the subject.

Either way, poor MS has to do SOMETHING with Rare. I mean, fuck, so far they've pretty much just spent 370,000,000 dollars on Grabbed by the Ghoulies.

Nintendo does things that consistently boggle people, but at the same time they always remain extremely profitable, even moreso than most big names. With that in mind I just doubt that they gave up a studio that consistently cranked out sales chart toppers like Rare did last gen. I don't think, especially at this rate, they'll ever regret giving them up, they obviously saw something falling apart and acted on it.
