Perfect Dark rumored to be canceled by Xbox

Mirror's Edge with a decent story, combat, and sci-fi elements seems like a win. Maybe not a colossal sales success but it would be something that makes Xbox's 1st party lineup feel a bit more unique.

I loved Mirrors Edge, the first game especially. This to me looked a replica of that especially the jump and drain pipe movements with a sci-fi skin on top of it and possibly better gun combat. The enemy character models are flat/unimpressive too imo.

I hope it's not cancelled for those who are looking forward to it .

Not even a million views since the reveal trailer a year ago. Microsoft needs to realize they aren't gonna get hype for their games until they confirm them for PS5 as well.

I remember seeing that last year and coming away with more questions than answers. Specifically: "What even is this game?"

Was it going to be classic PD, or lean more into Deus Ex, a Mirror's Edge clone,
or turn into just another X-Ray Vision 3D Action Shooter? I had even less of an idea of what they were aiming for after watching it than I did before.

How will we cope?

Maybe they couldn't get her jawline looking manly enough?

They may not deliver games but thanks to their huge teams, infinite resources and universe expanding development times xbox consistently provides AAA vapourware.

Believe me, if it's been canceled, it means the game was not going in a positive direction where it would have eventually resulted in a quality game in a reasonable amount of time. They had one of their best studios on it, with another high-profile studio assisting, and possibly even more external support that we don't know about.

That vertical slice from June 2024, who knows how long it took to make that, if there was much beyond it, how much of it was legitimate/ real gameplay, what the game was behind the scenes. Cancelation might've been for the best. 🤷‍♂️
They formed a brand new AAAA studio to make it and were so bad that they had to bring in crystal dynamics to make it and years later all they had was a trailer. And nobody remembers anything from the trailer but Joana Dark's gigachad jaw.

Yea the project was a disaster but if MS isn't going to be spending gazillions of dollars to release potentially cool games then what's the point of having them around. We didn't need Microsoft money to see an endless parade of crappy COD games and live service shit.

No way it's cancelled, it's the first first person shooter with an ecological focus, ECO-SCIFI!!!

But honestly, Microsoft performs badly in hardware, and now worse in software.

What in the Killzone 2 gameplay reveal trailer is going on in there
Killzone 2 was obvious CG. Just like that tekken video of Jin sweating.

This does actually look like gameplay . The fact they even cut parts and not smooth gameplay is kinda telling some of the parts they cut was not polished so they removed it and kept the parts that actually running .

Anyway I am going to refuse this rumor for now just because Spencer was talking about more info about this game next year at the 25th anniversary barely few weeks ago. I don't think he wouldn't bring the perfect dark name if there was a plan to cancel it

God damn retards at Microsoft announcing games ten years in advance, don't tell us in which decade the game is even supposed to come out so all its fans put the game in their yearly potential releases for every single year throughout the whole generation or even longer. Then when this has been going on for years and years, you cancel the bitch. Who develops games like this? This is just pathetic to even think about.

Good. Keep the assets and retool it into a new IP. The Perfect Dark IP can only hurt this project. There is not a timeline where it helps it.

Everwild was in development hell so understandable and perfect dark looked like the woke policy's pretty much killed everything good about original concept and yeh it looked like crap too.

If this was their style of management then they would have had plenty of room to cancel dozens of games over the last decade, but they didn't.
It's game development, everything is on a case-by-case basis. And like I said, who knows what kind of specific issues there were behind the scenes on Perfect Dark. It never should have been announced so early, to begin with. Clearly trouble was brewing if they couldn't provide an update a year later at June's showcase. They tried to sweep it under the rug and say 2026 games will be talked about later, but clearly if things were going well for the game they could've easily shown it with a specific release year, after such a long development cycle.

Please no, not this one.
It would not have been good, I gather it has been scrapped and re-started 27 times by this point. Probably got so many "focus test" FPS shooter experts in many times and they could not focus on what type of shooter it should actually be.

RIP Quadruple A gaming
Honestly good.

A lot of push in AAAA budgets is making a very pretty game. This ends up at the cost of either the games functionality, scope or just performance in general. Too many fingers involved in AAAA gaming because of the sheer costs involved.

As much as it sucks to hear about MS's layoffs are, their strategy with the games they've put out since late last year, imo is the right way to go. I don't think games like South of Midnight, Awoved, Indiana Jones (tho this one can be argued but i think its AAA) and Doom TDA have had insane budgets, maybe Awoved from its original announcement possibly, but then again Obsidian is putting out two games in a single year, so i dont think they broke the dam on those.

Regardless of your expectation or feelings on those games, they were released were solid, playable and critically well praised. If xbox has really shifted to the whole third part publisher, i think the output so far is the right way to go.

On topic tho, I hope PD isnt cancelled. The game looked far along when it was showcased last year. Be weird to be at that level and then cancelled.

Game looked like hot garbage, the first person melee looked dumb, PD it played like Hitman, I have always disliked the gameplay on those games.
Besides they were just making the sequel for the sake of doing it, there was no passion behind creating this sequel, The first game was good for its time, the second one was disgusting, I couldn't believe Rare produced that turd.

I hope this is wrong, I was really looking forward to a new Perfect Dark. Despite MS having their head up their ass idealogically I figured there was potential.

That's too bad, I was kinda, sorta, but not really looking forward to playing this on PS5 Pro. If the trailer was fake, then goddamn, no wonder it's being cancelled, it wasn't very impressive.

Where is the "Gamepass is a success guys! it only goes bigger and bigger and better!" and the "Ponys/Nintetards copium! the next Xbox will be the best one!" crowd?

And about Perfect Dark, I sadly dont care, I really dont think MS can do anything.

If Perfect Dark was a console exclusive then that is just about the only way I would buy the next Xbox console (if the next console even exists)

And nothing of value was lost. What was shown didn't seem very interesting and the studio had been stalling for about 6 years.
