Sweet pics, Flo. Am I mistaken in thinking you're already married?

I almost think I'd have more peace of mind owning a Ducati Superbike than the BMW :x

haha yes but she was out of town this weekend. I can look and take photos... :D

I agree I'd rather have another ducati than another BMW. They are weird for weirdness sake. Ducati seems to have improved reliability/service issues while the BMW's stack them on. :lol

I'm thinking about buying a set of super-motard wheels for my bike and a leather suit and signing up for the next track day... if they let me back in.

I thought as I was leaving it would be cool to ride through the gravel pit at the end of the drag strip. They didn't like that AT ALL! :lol I was escorted off the property after that.

Coincidentally, I rode a BMW S1000RR last week as well. And it's an amazing motorcycle. Little disappointing to hear about the issues it seems to have. But for the hour I drove it around (i.e. blasted down the highway and some curvy backroads), I absolutely loved it. Absolutely stable at whatever speed I was going, very comfortable riding position, and my god, that quick shifter is pure sex.

I've tried some other bikes as well. The Monster 696, the Monster 1100s, the Triumph Speed Triple 1050 and the BMW F800R. I'm going to ride the Hypermotard 796 next week, but I think my mind is made up already anyway.

The reason for all these test runs is that I'm going to trade in my Ducati 998. I've come to the conclusion it's the most beautiful motorcycle ever made, but compared to more modern bikes, it's terrible to drive (except at really high speeds... like really really high speeds). You have to treat it like the animal it is to get some joy out of it. And that's going to cost me either my life or my driver's license at some point. That's why I decided to take a step back to something a little (just a little) more practical.

And the bike that stole my heart was the Monster 1100s, especially in real life a beautiful machine to look at, fast enough without being crazy fast (lots of torque), very easy to drive and comfortable for extended periods of time and super stable down the most patchy and bumpy of roads. I love it.

The 696 is fucking excellent as well, but I think it might start to feel just a little slow after a while and it feels a little less stable down really fast corners when compared to the 1100s (though that's obvious considering the lack of ohlins shocks).

The BMW F800R is a piece of shit, starts to shake A LOT at 120km an hour, which is what you drive all the time on the highway. It's unstable down bends, and for an 800, it feels slow. And apart from that, the whole thing just feels shoddy. My girlfriend fell in love with one and test drove it for a couple of days, but it turned her off completely. And during the three days a 5 centimeter crack appeared in the front mudguard. Stuff like that doesn't inspire confidence in the rest of the build quality.

The Triumph was fast, but the seating position felt a little more tour oriented and the extra speed wasn't what I was looking for. The 1100s is at the sweet spot for me. And the Ducati just looks that much better when you have them side by side.

Anyway, I'll probably be making a deal somewhere in the next week. And I'll post some pics here when I get it.

I feel bad for letting my 998 go, I still love it I guess, but I can't wait to have a drive-able motorcycle once more :).

Once you ride a Triumph you never go back. The Speed Triple has the same purpose as the Street Triple, a street hooligan, hence the more relaxed riding position. Check out the Street Triple R, it has the same engine and suspension as the Daytona 675.

I think I am going to buy a little honda though for putting around and to teach my dad/wife how to ride. :D

So, I have a problem..... I went to the mall today and somehow lost my key and the worst part is I don't have a spare key. Has anyone had any experience with getting a new key made and about how much they cost? I called through my insurance and they said $400 which sounds outrageous. :/

Did you buy your bike used or new? If new, you can go to the dealer and they'll be able to make you a spare, if not hit up a local locksmith.

The Street Triple R is definitely on my short list if I ever get around to getting a new bike. It seems like such an amazing bike for what you spend, and it's totally to my tastes.

Can I even tell you guys how happy I am right now?

My partner bought me a fucking Harley for my birthday!!!

As much as I loved my first starter bike (a yellow 750 Honda Magna), this Road King is the best I've ever felt on a bike. Low center of gravity means I can take the curves at a far higher speed and really feel the road.

I have to say that I'll miss my first bike. It was my buddy for 2 years, and made me fall in love with the road. Funny how attached you get.

I have the best partner on the planet. :D

Used unfortunately. :/
You might be able to get a new key from the manufacturer if you get them the VIN number.

I've also read theres supposed to be some kind of key code on your ignition switch maybe that you use to get a new key made. I'm sure either way, you're gonna end up having to pay a fair sum to get a new one. That's a bummer man. Did you have to leave your bike at the mall?

Nah, I was able to get it towed by my insurance for free luckily.

daw, my life breaks all sorts of stereotypes. It's like to some people, I have to prove I'm gay because they refuse to believe it. :lol

I still like ABBA. ;)

Just add leather captain's hat, problem solved.

Seriously though, that must be one advantage to being gay. Straight guys usually have to fight with their significant other just to keep the bike, never mind have them buy one for them.

Yeah riding is something we both do together.

To Kenpachi:

Do you have a Ninja 250? if it is one of the older ones, the key code is under the helmet lock. The trick is that you have to unlock it to get the the screw to remove it and get the code. It cost me a few bucks to get a new key once I had the code. But I know some people who cut through the lock instead of having to pay for a new ignition and new keys. my Ninja 250 was a 2001 I think, so I don't know if this works on the new little ninjas. Hope this helps. I found this info on a Ninja 250 board.

Ya, it's a 1994 ninja 250. So how did you get to the screw to show the code?

Basically the code is printed on the bottom of the helmet lock, so it has to be removed from the bike to be seen. If I remember, the lock is attached with one or two screws, but you can't really access it unless the helmet lock is in the open position, thus the problem if you don't have a key. I had a badly worn key and I was able to open the lock get the code and have fresh keys made at a Kawasaki dealer.

Sorry to hear the Duke is going, Fallout! By chance, have you tried the KTM Super Duke?

It's a shame, yes... but I'm getting an almost equally beautiful Ducati in return.

And it's official by the way, yesterday I've put my signature under the order for a Monster 1100s (it has all the ohlins gear) with ABS. I got a damn good price for the 998 (from the dealer, I traded it in), a price I would have struggled to get, had I tried to sell it to another individual on the open market.

It should be prepped and ready for me on june the 19th.

I haven't tried the Super Duke, I do like the way it looks, but pretty much everything pales in comparison to the Ducati's. In my eyes at least, simply nothing looks better. Another reason I didn't go for a Super Duke, a Streetfighter (Ducati), an 848 or something else in that league is that they're simply too fast for public roads. Whenever I get on a machine like that, or my 998, I use the power it has on tap, I just can't resist. And the Super Duke has about 130 horsepower as well? The monster's 95 will do me just fine and it has more torque than the KTM I think.

Another thing that cannot be beaten is the Monster's handling. It is fucking stellar. And at 168 kgs, it's probably the lightest bike in its class.

ChiTownBuffalo

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider

I want another monster so bad...

I wouldn't discount the super motards though (too late but you should try one ASAP) they typically don't have as much power as SS bikes and are fun as hell to throw around. Great for commuting with their comfortable upright seating position, and you can DRIFT. Technically you can drift any bike but something about the geometry makes it really easy on a motard.

:D

krypt0nian, you are one lucky dude. I don't know what the status of gay marriage is in Illinoise but you should propose. :lol

Yeah, I can back the 1100 into corners though. Haven't tried my hand at drifting yet, but it was the dealer's bike, so :lol.

(3000 euros own risk if you crash it)

Fucking hell my luck is shit. The company that towed it was rough and dropped my bike but I thought nothing of it. I went to ride it today and the steering is bent relatively bad to the left. No problem I thought, I'll call rider insurance since we told them to keep it open in case there was damage. I call rider insurance and they have no file of my bike ever getting towed so they say there is nothing they can do. I'm about to throw my fucking bike off a cliff.

Wait, when you say rider insurance do you just mean your insurance company that has comprehensive etc coverage? If you have comprehensive coverage you should be able to get it fixed. Maybe consider getting an attorney?

Yes, the insurance company. They finally found record of them towing it (lol?) so now I have to wait to 2 days until they get a response from the towing company and then they said they'll contact me again. If the steering is out of alignment, is it hard to fix? Just in case I wind up not getting paid. Rider doesn't seem to be trying all that hard to get my bike fixed so I'm assuming I'm going to lose this since to them "I have no proof" that the towing company did it.

Ugh that sucks man. That's one of the reasons I would almost refuse to ever let someone tow my MC. I would have a friend come with a truck and some ramps before towing it. Best of luck to you.

Flo_Evans said:
Are the bars just bent or is it seriously fucked up?
I guess just bent? All I know is if I want to go straight the bars are slightly to the left and when I make a hard left my thumb gets smashed between the handlebar and the gas tank now.

That was my first thought but after calling the insurance and getting told I could get towed for free I figured I didn't want to bother him, especially if the tow is free. I regret that now. :/

Backing it in, the best way to race a supermoto, aproach a corner fast, clutch in drop down a gear without braking and feather the clutch to engine brake the rear tyre into a drift, then turn and control the drift on the throttle. its bloody terrifying to try but is amazing when you get it right and you feel like a god lol :lol

looks like this when the pros do it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmYR2ZBonbo

Edit: should also add that allot of the pros will use a slipper clutch that means that you can pretty much let go of the clutch lever once you have kicked it down a gear and let the bike do the working

Hey GAF! Here's two updated pictures that were taken recently. This IS my baby :D It's a 2005, probably like 16,000 miles on it now, I got it originally with 1600 miles on it. Have a few little things here and there done to it, don't really have the funds to do much other than basic maintenance.

This one was part of a video, hence the crap quality. A favorite back road of mine.

Yes. I do NOT recommend trying this on the street. The danger of a high-side is extremely high if you let off the throttle for a split second...

I do it on the dirt all the time, feels good man :D
