Who's hosting this year? Judging by the commercials i would say Dave Chappelle but I heard he is just doing a segment.

Hate on the song all you want, but you cannot deny the genius of the video for I Believe in a Thing Called Love. If any other video wins, it will be a travesty.

I suppose I can agree with that, especially compared to the other stuff nominated. Although my disinterest in it likely stems mostly from my abhoration for their vocalist. Maybe I'd enjoy it more on mute.

Isn't ironic how they have Christina Aguilera holding a VMA Moon Man and she never won one (after being nominated TEN times)? lol

Holy shit!

They ain't gonna have a host!

The MTV Video Music Awards are all about scene-stealing stunts, so it was fitting Tuesday when the network announced that stars will approach this year's red carpet on luxury yachts and the entire show will be host-free.

[...]

Dave Sirulnick, one of the show's executive producers, said the idea to go hostless was created when they decided to hold the show in a large arena for the first time. Past shows were in cozier theaterlike venues such as Radio City Music Hall in New York.

[...]

"We're packing in so much stuff, I don't know if we need to have a host this year," Sirulnick said. "It's something that we've talked about for the past couple of years."
Seattle PI/AP

All this time, I thought Dave was hosting...

From MTV:

Chris Rock has beef with MTV.

"If they would've told me this year's [Video Music Awards are] in Miami, I wouldn't have done them last year. I would've waited and done this year," a comically disgruntled Rock said recently. "But those bastards didn't say anything. It's gonna be crazy in Miami!"

Well, Rock, you could always make an 11th-hour return. After all, the show has no host this year.

Forgot about "Viewers' Choice."

And I keep hearing that Dave Chappelle is supposed to be a "performer" at the VMAs. (???)

i guess that means...he will perform some standup or something for like 5 min....but not introduce most presenters....which prolly takes up time...and usually isnt as funny.

ill be ok with it only if dave chapelle opens with a good 5-8 min standup.

I think they made a big mistake by not having a host this year.

And I just remembered: they Closing Ceremonies of the Olympics will be on at the same time. :(

Even if this year's spectacle is tame, it will still be more important than the outcome of the awards. Joseph Kahn is the director of Britney Spears' Toxic clip, which is nominated for video of the year. But Kahn figures MTV's highest accolade -- which he has won before -- has almost nothing to do with him. "The VMAs are not about directing achievement; they're about who's the most popular," he said.

Hater material

Most diatribes dressing-down the VMAs are usually right: the talent isn't too great....

But there's one thing for sure: everyone'll be watching. :)

My picks for this shitty awards show:

Best Video of the Year
* OutKast - "Hey Ya"

Best Male Video
NONE

Best Female Video
NONE

Best Group Video
* No Doubt - "It's My Life"

Best Rap Video
NONE

Best R&B Video
NONE

Best Hip Hop Video
NONE
wtf happened to "Where is the Love?" Kind of lame song but it had a good message. I would have voted for that.

Best Dance Video
* Usher feat. Lil' Jon & Ludacris - "Yeah"
Well, I gotta give Lil' Jon props for at least making me laugh my ass of whenever he acts like a retard. Poor Usher. Five years from now when Lil' John is looked at as a joke, he's going to wonder why one of his biggest singles was tainted with "Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! OOKAAAYYY!! ONE TIME!" :lol Of course, the song sucks to begin with.

Best Rock Video
*Evanescence - "My Immortal"
I actually like this song.

Best Pop Video
* No Doubt - "It's My Life"

Best New Artist In A Video
NONE

MTV2 Award
* Modest Mouse - "Float On"
HEY! A good song.

Best Choreography In A Video
NONE

Breakthrough Video
* White Stripes – "The Hardest Button to Button"
Another good song! With a really cool idea for a video, too.

Best Direction In A Video
*White Stripes: The Hardest Button to Button (Dir. Michel Gondry)
Genius.

Best Special Effects In A Video
*White Stripes: The Hardest Button to Button
Awesome special effect, and its a pretty old school concept (or looks like one anyway).

Best Art Direction In A Video
NONE Apparently MTV can't tell the difference between art direction and special effects. Float On should be in this list...

Best Editing In A Video
*White Stripes: The Hardest Button to Button
:D

Best Cinematography In A Video
*Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Maps

Viewers' Choice

He's just great with club songs...I don't think coherent lyrics would fit the beats. :p

The darknes, Linkin park and hoobastank are the only good bands there. I really want hoobastank to get the best rock video, the reason is a really good song.

Run, chocoholic, while YOU STILL HAVE YOUR LEGS!

Damn... when they brought out Shaq, I was hoping that he was going to do some kind of surprise rap performance. That would have been the greatest moment in the history of mtv.

So MTV makes a big deal about Dave Chappelle being there and uses him for all the commercials and makes it sound like he's going to be a big part of the show and then just decides to have him introduce Lil' Jon?

They didn't even let him be funny or anything. Just "stop saying WHAT!" and "Here's the Terror Squad!"

WTF?

Yeah, they booed both Kerrys and Bushes. I don't blame them, I wasn't impressed with their preachy message. Chappelle's performance sucked. I think a few of my students are at the show. I was gonna try and win tix off The Beat, but there's no point. MTV ain't my thing anymore. PEACE.

There is no good reason why I Believe in a Thing Called Love did NOT win Best Rock. This show blows.

Nothing has been funny, nothing interesting has happened. It's just been one big hip-hop circle jerk.

Anyone but jet should have won.

Mary kate and ashley sound like 50 year old nagging hags. Or maybe its just me? Unattractive voices.
