I'm not sure Pierre, should we remove the red line? Ok enough, I agree with you, STOP SAYING IT 10 TIMES PER GAME EVERY TIME THERE IS A LONG PASS. Go Jets Go?

LOL now we find out just how easy the patsy's in group B were.

1-0, pretty good game but I'll be much happier when the boys start cashing in some of these chances. I had a really bad "uhoh" moment when Crosby missed that open net... I think I'm turning into a pessimist like my dad when it comes the WJC. So much bad luck the last few years in this damn tourney. Luckily we've won everything else to take the sting out of it. ;)

If we get past the Czechs here it'll be nice to watch what should be a THRILLING Russia/US game tonight in peace.

My predictions:
4-1 Canada (I was going to post the prediction before the game)
5-3 Russia

Oh shit, I was hoping for a penalty shot there. But another good PP will do nicely too!

Is the US/Russia game on TV? I seen a promo for an NFL at 8:30.

TSN is a shitty sports network. They are not showing a quarter final game of our national sport, a game that will determine who plays for gold.

Do not get exclusive rights to a sporting event if you can not commit to it.
They did the same thing during the FA Cup(football). During a big game they opted to show a golf tournament. Golf. There is a whole channel dedicated to golf, let them cover it.

This is unexcept able.

OMG SO PRETTY

Ok, Canada is really coming on now, huge hit by my man Phaneuf, great pressure for most of the second and Bergeron with a beauty! 3-0!

EDIT: what do you mean it's not on TSN? Between them and NHL Network, I once had *8* replays of the same 3 games during one day last week. ;)

On TSN:
Code:
Sunday, Jan. 2	Canada vs. Czech Republic	4pm et
Monday, Jan. 3	Canada vs. Czech Republic (encore)	12:30am et
Russia vs. United States 7 pm et
Tuesday, Jan. 4	Bronze Medal Game 4pm et
Gold Medal Game 7:30 pm et
Gold Medal Game (encore)	Midnight et
Ahh, I see now, I assumed the US/Russia game was live but it's on NHL Network and being replayed on TSN I guess? That's too bad, but since TSN is averaging about 7 hours of WJC a day I guess I can forgive them this once. ;) Stupid NFL sugar-daddy is too important to preempt for a non-Canada game I guess.

3-0

Canada's dominated the last several minutes. This could actually turn into a blow-out.

The US/Russia game is on at 9pm PST, I think

Thanks for the updates guys ... I have no TV right now.

The USA/Russia game sh ould be interesting, considering that one team has gotten worse while the other seems to have gotten better since their first meeting. According to TSN's site, it doesn't look like they'll be airing the game though.

Hm, nevermind ... this page seems to say that they'll be airing the game. Whatever, doesn't affect me really, heh.

Shit, had Bergeron not missed that empty net they could have pretty much turned out the lights. Still, 3-0 is good seeing as how the Czechs haven't really gotten enough pressure to threaten to score 1 goal nevermind 4. The Swedish ref calling everything hurts the Czechs though, they're tired and not letting them get away with the hooking and interference that they normally use so effectively will be a huge impediment to any comeback from them.

:lol to Gino for throwing it to commercial by saying after the break they'd be "going on on one with the Great One".

Shit, just read an update ... the shots are 26 to 4 after the second period?! That's disgusting.

EDIT: Ha! Forgot about the radio. FAN 590's got it and the Russia/US game later.

Stupid slow stream! Long pause in USA Hockey's feed but when the came back the Russians scored right away to make it 3-2.

Thought it was going to be a blowout after it was 2-0 for the Russians 5 minutes in and making it sound easy, but the US tied it up. To let another goal in so fast will really hurt the US.

They both follow the "absolute basics" of hockey broadcasting. It's not annoying or abrasive because the play by play and colour guy are pretty much personality-free, but it is pretty dull. They sound sad when the Russians score, but it's their feed so it's to be expected.

EDIT: the long pauses are usually for commercial breaks for the local radio

Oh yeah, it's on the Fan590's site too. A much slicker and better sounding broadcast (seriously, USA Hockey's feed sounds like it's about 1K/sec sound quality, it's like listening to a guy call the game through his crappy cell phone), but I prefer listening to the US feed for some sick reason. ;)

The one bright side of the redzone guys is that it never needs to rebuffer, which is a problem I've had in the past with Fan590.

Ah shit, didn't even think of giving a link to a feed for FAN 590. Oh well.

It's kind of funny listening to them ... it sounds like they're rooting for the Americans, but like they're trying to remain impartial about it.

EDIT: At 13:34 gone in the second, it sounds like Montoya is doing well during the power play.

Oh those Russians, so classy!
6-2, funny stuff going on. Another empty netter, 7-2? Nope, didn't count, but this will be a good one to watch when TSN finally gets around to playing it just to see if the running, chirping and diving are as bad as the radio guys are saying.

Are you fucking kidding me?

I just walked in the house after being out all afternoon, turned on the highlights and was greeted by some Russian assclown taunting the American bench after an empty net goal. I'm glad that we get to meet the commies in the gold medal game, but now I want to beat them even badder - so bush league it's not funny. What a bitch move.

Weren't these the same nut huggers that were taunting our ass a couple years? Seems they need to learn a little lesson in humility. Hopefully that's just what they get.

It's pretty sad when my motivation for wanting to see the Russians get destroyed is because they humiliated the fucking States of all nations. Before I wanted to see an exciting game with Canada emerging the better team. Now I want to see Canada fucking rout the pussies and celebrate in front of the pinko's bench every single time.

:lol :lol :lol Yeah, I don't recall the US rubbing it in last year at all...they won with class, which is why that loss was easy to take.

Do not fear southern brothers...we shall avenge you.

Aw man I agree 100%. I'm already daydreaming about Malkin cutting inside and WHAMO Shea Weber unloads on him, then 30 seconds later as Malkin slowly gets his shit together he see's Weber standing over him going "did you hear that? huh?"

I'm hoping it's 4-0 at the end of the first, and the Russians just fold and get pummeled the rest of the way. Heh if you were listening to the feed from redzone.com the US commentators after the game were openly hoping that Phaneuf and the boys were watching and "react accordingly". :lol

Hey now, that sounds a little too "McGuirey" for these forums...

I know that our guys won't be saying anything (when do they take that course on how to bullshit interviews?) but this should prove to be some form of added enticement to destroy the Russians. At the very least, the crowd should be insanely loud.

The WHAMO was added for extra McGuireness. ;)

With just over three minutes remaining in regulation, the Canadian bench was assessed a bench minor. Crosby had broken his stick and when he skated to the bench to get another one, the linesman ruled it was thrown to him.

"Sidney came and grabbed it just as (Shawn) Belle handed him the stick," Sutter said. "It went out about four inches and the linesman was there and made the call."
:lol Good try Sutter, but if by "handed" you mean "hurled like a javelin" and "four inches" means "about 15 feet" then I agree with you. ;)

Just watched the USA/Russia game on TSN and wow those guys had no class. I always loved playing teams like that though. Gives you so much motivation to go out and embarrass them.

Yeah, watching the whole game it seemed to me that the highlights don't do justice to how arrogant the Russians were. But as they mentioned there's been bad blood between the 2 cores since the U17 a few yeas back during an ugly game with some suspensions and stick majors. The US didn't exactly come off as perfect sports either (they did a fair bit of chirping in the first round robin game and they can stick guys with the best of em) but still totally classless by the Russians.

Funniest moment was when Ovechkin was tugging at his name and showing up the crowd while on the bench and the camera switched to George McPhee in the stands and he had a sour "what's that smell?" look on his face like someone just dropped a bomb on a crowded elevator. That Ovechkin has been one odd duck the whole tourney though.

Ok, getting kinda nervous. :D

Ovechkin and Malkin may be the best two players in this tournament - we'll find that out at the gold medal game on Tuesday - but taunting has the potential to cause some problems and here's why.

At the beginning of a period, Ovechkin's ritual is often to skate down before the puck is dropped and pretend to be shooting at the goaltender and scoring.

The Americans were shocked to see this happen and didn't do anything about it, but Canada has already told the IIHF that they better make sure Ovechkin stays on his side of the ice. If not, there's potential for huge problems - something in the nature of what happened in Piestany, Czechoslovakia in 1987.

Yeah, that shit won't fly now bubble-boy! ;)

Missed the bronze game, but they're showing the replay of the OT winner... and yikes that didn't look like the best goal of all time. Hope I missed something, but I guess those slow dribblers can be tricky - I'm just pissed the US lost simply because I would cheer for Hell's own hockey team if they were playing the Czechs. :\

Who made it out more than "nice"? TSN? He turned the defender inside-out, then kept control as the guy man-handled him from behind, and knocked it into the net.

I like the Czech's, simply because they always offer a different dynamic in tournaments.

You've got;

Canada - Skill, grit, and amazing if not sometimes shaky goaltending
USA - Grit with a little less skill, solid if not shaky goaltending
Sweden - Offensive dynamo with lacklustre, terrible goaltending
Finland - Sweden Lite but (now) terrific goaltending
Russia - Offensive flair with often great goaltending, mentality and conditioning plays factor
Czech - Defensively tight and sound often with terrific goaltending

It's nice, because some teams often do better against others. I like the dynamic that different country conditioning brings up, offers variety. There's no team that focuses mainly on defense with a sprinkle of offensive superstars like the Czech's, so even if the games might not be as exciting to watch (unless you're playing against a hapless USA team with an empty net for 5 minutes, heh), they always offer a different challenge.

I'm not talking about that, I mean it looked like a softy that should have been stopped. All I saw was a guy in close being held up and he got a weak shot away that dribbled right through Montoya... I was saying I hope there was more to it than I saw on one replay because it looked like a bad goal to let in in OT of a medal game.

EDIT: how can any Canadian not have a hate-on for the Czechs? :lol Mouthiest punks of all time, when they aren't whining that they're the best hockey nation on earth they're insulting the CHL or Canadians in general. From the juniors to their coaches and media types they've been responsible for the bulk of the really annoying hockey quotes of the past decade. ;) Don't even get me started on how bloody boring their trap-happy "style" is, the Czechs are right up there with the Swedes of the mid 90's in giving us some of the worst international hockey games of all time (Czech/Russia for the gold in 98 is still the most godawful elite-level hockey game of all time IMO).

Nah, Montoya just fucked up, plain and simple.

I'm going to be watching the game at a pub on campus, should be fun. Missed the Bronze medal game due to a class (yeah, I know, lame). But yeah ... I'm nervous. The Czech game, I had a little anxiety, but it didn't bug me too much. The Czechs, while good, have their problems.

The Russians though, especially after that blowout against the States, do indeed worry me. I know we don't have Montoya in net, but Glass really hasn't had a challenge yet, so a lot of things seem to be up in the air on this one.

I think I'm going to grab some food then head to the pub.

Go Canada Go and I'll post here sometime after the game if I'm not too drunk.

OK, thanks for the info! :) So after this is over, is there any hockey being broadcast? I didn't notice this thread until waaaay too late. :( I'm dying without access to MCI Center and Capitals games.
