OK, thanks for the info! :) So after this is over, is there any hockey being broadcast? I didn't notice this thread until waaaay too late. :( I'm dying without access to MCI Center and Capitals games.

I've noticed lately they've been playing some games from europe on the NHL channels here. Damn all their jerseys are UGLY with advertisements covering every thinkable space on their bodies. Nonetheless, it's a good way to see some NHL stars play.

GO CANADA GO!

Canada's Sportsnet network has been showing games from the Swedish Elite League regularly. I don't know if you'd be able to get that feed in the States, however.

The Canadian channels (Sportsnet in particular) have been showing Euro league games, and the NHL Network has been showing mainly NCAA and classic ones. But man you'd have to be one MASSIVE Brendan Morrison fan to make watching that televised sedative worthwhile.

So you worried at all that Ovechkin has shown himself to be... a wee bit eccentric? ;) Sitting by himself on the bench between periods, constantly pointing to his name and the C on his chest in a way that Deion Sanders would decry as "too hotdog", and general oddness in interviews and on the ice have me thinking the Pens really might have won the 2004 draft by losing the lottery. ;)

Hehe well Ovechkin would have to become flat out batshit insane, like Hannibal Lecter insane, before it starts to count against his unreal ability, but I'd say it's probably 50-50 right now whether he or Malkin will be the better NHLer in 5 years. And really that's good for the Pens just because it was so damn sad watching those sad sacks lose the lottery. It's probably way too early to even speculate about it, but I can imagine Ovechkin turning out a bit like Jagr - sure his talent and size will mean he's an elite player no matter what, but maybe in 10 years or so his little character quirks will make him less effective and valuable as a player than he should be.

It'd be funny if he scored in his first game as a Cap and pointed at his name to taunt the crowd only to be confused as to why they're cheering.

I haven't followed the Caps as closely as I once did the Flyers back in the mid-late 90s. I'll read up on Ovechkin, I don't recall hearing the name or seeing it at any of the Caps games I've been to (several Flyers games and 1 other game which I can't remember who they played right now). I'd feel really stupid if he's been on the team for the past few seasons.. :/ I'm not the best with names on sports teams unless I really follow the team closely.

Is the NHL Network a satellite station?

I get the NHL Network through Bell XpressVu which is satelite.

The games already on?! For some reason I was thinking 7:30.

1-0 already, holy shit that was fast.

2-1

GREAT game. I'm enjoying it so much. The Russians are fun to watch, but it's even better seeing Canada containing them - mostly Ovechkin.

Part of me wants Canada to shit-kick them, but I'd actually like risking a close game, just to make it more entertaining.

You can hear people in the background singing Oh Canada... in North Dakota :lol

2 things i notice

Crosby not playing center makes me cry

Ovechkin is a solid man... whether he got hurt a bit or not. People bounce off him

lol, hit of the game, if not the tourney, is actually Phaneuf getting just destroyed by panin. That was an amazing hit, and just like Scott Stevens Dion jumps right back up. Stevens' ability to get leveled and bounce right up like nothing happened is almost creepy.

Dion just got some whamo haha. He's gotta get some payback for that
Yeah, but fucking McGuire naturally noted "The big thing about that hit was that Phaneuf got up right away" :lol

And then Canada scores but McGuire still can't get over that Phaneuf partially hit one player and then clumsily ran into another - but no, it's "WHAMMO... WHAMMO" :lol

Seriously, I love Phaneuf. He's a fantastic player, and I appreciate watching him play as much as Crosby or Ovechkin. I'm incredibly jealous of the Flames for having the rights to this wonder. But McGuire has this problem with picking particular players (no more than 2 or 3) and then praising each little thing that they do throughout a game/series. That's such irritating commentary for me. Good thing that Phaneuf rocks too hard for me to backlash against him.

The way this game is going, Canada would have to be 2 men down for the next 10 minutes for it to get close. The Russians have already packed it in, starting with Ovechkin and his pussy "in case you missed it, I'm going to windmill my arm gingerly the whole way to the bench so everyone can see how my arm is sore so this defeat is just not my fault" move.

Well, at least TSN's production crew admitted to Mcguire's talks by showing that PMS poster in the crowd.
:lol

Hey, where's the chirping? What's up Team Russia, why so quiet? :( Oh no Ovechkin, please, no more tears. I'm sure your shoulder feels better now at least.

I loved how the Canadians just ignored all the BLATANT bitch-move slashing and poking the Russians did. Leveled them clean and often, and wouldn't even deign to notice the cheapshoting.

:lol :lol :lol Gotta give him credit, he's always prepared...

Too bad Canada didn't score a couple more in the third, just to really rub the shit into Russia's collective mug. But this game was over before the halfway mark anyway, and needed only cruise control to take home the spoils. Guess that's good enough.
