:lol :lol

Nice.

Still, all of Canada's games in the damn tournament were boring. Sure, I wanted Canada to win, but even the Czech game lacked any real opposition offensively, although the Czech defense kept the Canadians from blowing them away.

I'm definitely writing "Damn You, Sidney Crosby!" after this freakin' tournament. At least when he's in Rimouski I can much more easily ignore him.

Despite that Canada was never REALLY challenged, I found none of the games boring for the simple fact that I love hockey and these guys played it extremely well. They were a joy to watch, even when up 6-0 or 5-1.

See, I'll admit right now that I'm pretty well a "Playoffs Only" NHL viewer. I like to watch hockey games with some sort of emotional connection, where the game really matters and its tension-filled and exciting. While I can appreciate good hockey, and enjoy watching it, blowouts just really don't resonate with me. It's tough.

Of course, back in Salt Lake, I proceeded to refuse to watch the entire third period of that game in fear that Canada would lose, but that was just pathetic. I've never been good with tense situation, which makes you wonder why I wasn't happier with blowouts. I guess I've become more discerning with age.

I remember praying on draft day that the Oilers wouldnt take Ryan Getzlaf
The Oilers took Marc Antoine Pouliot.. I was happy.

I feel stupid =(

I figured as much, but that's fine. There are people who love hockey for the game, and there are people who love hockey for the sport [and game], if you know what I'm saying.

And how can you not love Crosby after 1) he mauls Bergeron after his goal, 2) goes nutty on the bench before time runs out

I just hope you hate the hype and the hypers, but not the er, hype-ee.

Anyone hear Peter M.'s classic in the third?

Something like.. "If they play like they did against USA in the last five minutes, they'll get their teeth knocked out" :lol

Actually, I think he was saying something different. That what Russia did against the USA inspired Canada to play so well against them. As if.

-edit- I just saw a guy with the sign: "Bush, your country just got invaded" awesome

Haha, yeah and sure enough, the Russians layed down the rest of the way. I noticed a marked decrease in the slashes from the Russians as time went down and the likelihood that a 5 minute major would hurt Team Canada decreased. ;)

Not as funny as the US/Russia game though, when I think Malkin did his showboating Gord Miller said that if he tried that at the next level (NHL) gloves would litter the ice and he'd be leaving the rink in a bucket. :lol

The Score has the press conference live right now... Ovechkin answering questions. Gave grudging props to team canada for having "a good team", so I guess I'll stop mocking the shoulder injury. He says it happened during the 4on4 in the second period.

EDIT:
And now the only part of the WJC I hate - thinking about all the guys that weren't drafted by my team but could have been. Jeff Carter... Flames could have drafted him. Bergeron... could have drafted him like 2 or 3 times :p. Guys like Mike Richards and Clarke McArthur could have been nabbed with mid-round picks, and they look like they'll be quality NHLers. Damn.

Anyone get this through MSN yet?

FUCK THE RUSSIANS !

He's a good kid. He's a great hockey player. But when he is being billed as the second coming of christ by the Halifax media, and apparently by Pierre McGuire (Who I seriously believe believes that the 11th Commandment is "Thou shalt remove the red line" (Can I mix Christian/Jewish religious references like that? No? Damn)), I can honestly say I can't stand hearing his name once more. I also feel bad for all of the other kids growing up in this province who may be great at hockey, but if you're not Sidney Crosby you'll have to do something spectacular to even get a mention.

Pierre Mcguire first star, awsome performance haha.

Canada was just too good for the rest of the teams, I bet the US would have provided a more exciting game, of course they would have went down too. I love how Ovechkin comes up with this injury once Canada had control of the game. It was nice to see the support from all those Canadian fans rockin' that arena.

Fuck yes. That's all I gotta say. But since I've had a few (and more), I'm gonne continue.

Mike Richards is from my hometown of Kenora, ON ... 13'000 people or so. I can't not love this guy. I've been impressed with him the whole tournament. I'll never forget Gord Miller's comment:

"The very sight of Mike Richards going down to block a shot with an eight to nothing lead .... "

His physical presence on the ice. His ability to do the hardest things when they were needed . And you know, speaking of physical presence, that's really how Team Canada won this game. Every damn time the Russians were even close to a scoring chance, there was a Canadian player there to bump him off the puck with another quickly following to scoop it up.

It wasn't so much the steamroller hits, but the technical bodychecks. They were physical when the needed to be (although, the penalties in the first were a little too numerous), but it was never excessive. Hell, that guy was bleeding after stepping into Richards.

Anyway, to all my fellow Canadians. Be proud, for we have proven today that we ARE the greatest fucking nation in hockey.

Cheers.

I just made this as an emoticon for Something Awful (which has like a flag-cry emoticons, like an eagle crying in front of a USA flag, a beaver crying in front of a Canadian flag, etc);

I just got home from the bar where I was wathing the game.

Damn, I wish I wasn't driving tonight becuase the pub owner declared happy hour as long as the Canadians were winning.

My pals got stone cold drunk tonight.

All I can say is how proud I am of the Junior Team, they played strong and hard the whole tournament, especially with the expectations Canadians have for their hockey players.

All I can say is that this was a nice bit of hockey in a year where there won't be any.

Congrats fellas.

You know what I just realized that's fucking crazy? Team Canada was never losing at any point in any game ever. That's nuts.

Yes.

I can just imagine that in ten years time a handful of these players will be the cream of the crop in the NHL (should it exist!) and we'll be amazed that they were all assembled on one team.

Yes, it'll be fun watching them lead an American team in a marketplace that doesn't give two shits about hockey to a Stanley Cup.

In times of depression like that, look at the bright side: At least we're not New Orleans' Saints fans, doomed to wear a paper bag at every home game.

...okay, it's not much, but damn, it's not like the Canucks have memories of cup winning seasons to fall back on. -_-;

I'm sad that the tournament is over since this was the only hockey worth watching this year, but obviously happy with the outcome, not just Canada winning, but team USA not winning ;)

The best part of the tourny was Canada's physical dominance of the Russians. They weren't very cocky after a few of those hits. Wish we hadn't been quite so stacked. We should have passed on a few of the older guys and let some younger guys get a shot.

Seriously? Or are you just indirectly bragging? Because believe me, after losing last year and for several consecutive, there was no way they were going to pick anything short of the absolute best.

No I have tickets to every game next year, and we will only have one returning player as Crosby will be in the NHL. I'm worried about next year!

If there's an NHL playing next year Crosby won't be at the WJC I bet. Cam Barker... maybe but the Hawks are shaky enough that he'd probably be in the NHL (getting 6th D minutes of course) next year too.

Sure, but it's worth explaining why. If he continues to play for Rimouski, he would be eligible, and would certainly be at the tournament.
