I refuse to watch anymore low budget, TV original episodes that are ancient mythology mimic murders. THIS IS WHERE I DRAW THE LINE.

Especially because Oshii's involvement Urusei Yatsura and Patlabor quite possibly constitute his best work.
I remember watching Beautiful Dreamer as a kid on the Sci-Fi channel (when they aired random anime on weekends) and having my mind blown.

He does more in the TV show.
If it comes recommended, I'll definitely give it a watch. According to wikipedia he stopped directing at 106? Is the remainder of the series any good?

It's still good for a majority of the second half, but it's not as good as post-season-one Oshii.

To me, what Oshii did after season one is a 10, but the entire series is an 8 overall.

The tech in this universe, other then the mechs, seems utterly dumb and pointless. I mean - what the fuck at those phones. Other than that and the singing and the beauty contest it seems ok.

If Madhouse is on its way out, there are worse shows to go out on than Chihayafuru.
The folks there are putting on a great show, that much is true.

I was completely wrong about Revy and this show. When someone brings up strong female anime character (lol) then post a sexualised pic of Revy, I find it hard to take seriously and just assumed she a strong female anime character in the same way the girls from high school of the dead are or
saber who just needs to get laid .

Surprisingly there hasn’t been any Revy fanservice with tits jiggles, blushes, tsundere and harem style boob into face gags.

The ban has been lifted!
Why do they use that term in JAV?

Too bad Persona 4 anime is lackluster :(

When I heard the game music in the first episode I got pretty excited.

This episode really delivers on every front: it’s funny, emotional, it gives us insight into characters, presents the viewer with competent action sequences, fanservice and even some plot. This is the one that got me ‘hooked’ on the series. Whenever a show forces me to watch the next episode, I take notice.

The interesting thing about these OVA’s is how they make full use of an episodes running time to tell a story. The director didn’t just say “well, this is going to be the comedy episode, let’s crack jokes for twenty-five minutes and call it a wrap”. Instead they can go all over the place and really keep the experience fresh.

tm51.jpg

Due to the power of alien technology, this show can have a hot springs scene at any time, any place. Floating hot springs – what will they think of next? Rather than simply an excuse to show off lady skin...okay, that’s mainly what it is. Regardless, we get a fun scene with a bit of character banter between are two main love-interests that surprisingly turns into a sequence which
fleshes out a Ryoko’s back story somewhat and gives her a ‘reason’ for being into Tenchi
. It’s a pretty interesting way to solve a particular problem.

tm53.jpg

Just when you think you know what’s going to happen next, an impromptu action sequence happens.
This arc’s baddie makes his presence known and throws about some weight, which of course results in a err, lightsaber battle? I can accept that.
Just.

tm54.jpg

Less surprisingly, we get some more
character revelations. Which aren’t really revelations to anyone paying attention, but I’m surprised they dealt with them this early on.
It’s always good to see they just aren’t holding back on those things for as long as they possibly can.

tm55.jpg

For the last third of the episode they try to
ratchet up the scale and scope of the action.
There’s actually a pretty good progression there – it builds up over the course of the episode until things actually get
pretty serious. Which I really like – they manage to balance the tension and action with some lighter moments, which isn’t easy to do. Sure, no-one is buying that Tenchi has actually died, but still.
It’s just not a direction I expected this show to go in at the start!

Once again, I have to say that these designs are pretty sweet. But I guess I'm a sucker for this stuff?

WHEN DID FEUDAL JAPAN GET MECH SUITS WITH GIGA DRILL BREAKERS!? Great return to form after the relatively boring 3 and 4.
The first season doesn't get that good until 7 or so, iirc. You'll know it when you see it. The first few episodes are all over the place with lots of drawn out monologues and stuff.

Second season is all awesome, all de time.

Japan has always had mecha, at least as far as Anime has taught me.

Jex, you are watching those Tenchi episodes super slow.

Man the OVA Boxset looked so cool when it was released. It was back when DVD was still not fully adopted and it was expensive as hell.

I was never a huge fan of Sengoku-Meiji era stuff plot-wise. Most of it just goes over my head since I'm usually not paying attention. Kind of been zoning out in this whenever political scenes/conversations happen, so I couldn't even tell you what's going on right now in the story other than "Nobunaga is bad, Yukimura and Date are badass".

That's like all you need to know, the rest is just LOUD YELLING and BLAZING HEART.

Finally some time to watch something, anything! I am going through withdrawal...

MPD Ep.15

Not what I expected after the last episode.
I really enjoyed was disturbed by the flashback to the relationship between Yuri and her father and how that led on to create her obsessive love for Momoka.
The whole idea about the diary being actually important had felt like a wild goose chase up to this point. I kept thinking that there would be a point where the characters would realize that it was just a diary; however, they finally gave some significance to it (outside of Ringo's attachment). The emotional ending got to me also. It didn't make me cry, but it struck a cord.

First to watch Penguin Drum 15 and then onto Code Geass R2 since it made my brain stop working and the doctors recommended I stay the fuck away from Code Geass for a while.

Mirai Nikki 3

I thought the first half of the episode felt a bit mundane, but it was obviously paced like that to make way for the insanity!
I was almost fooled in to believing, that Yuno was your typical animu school girl who enjoys the simpler things in life. Such as, pool side embarrassment and home grown fruit.

These types of shows are at their best when the insanity levels are through the roof.

Oh and nice OP and ED.

That's like stopping mid pee. Any credible doctor would have told you to marathon it.

The last few seconds of Mirai Nikki's OP really saves it, imo. While it feels largely disjointed in almost everywhere else, it really comes together there. Song and all.

Professor Layton and the Eternal Garbage

What an awful movie. I really can't believe it was this disappointing. I'm a big fan of the games, but this movie simply falls flat. Not only is the puzzle design in the movie poor and lame, but the entire script feels like a rejected scenario for a Layton game (because it's so bad) padded with really poorly thought out plot twists, crappy motivations, and worst of all every single major set piece feels lifted from a previous Layton game instead of something original. Total nonsense, and I didn't learn a single thing about Descole by watching this. I feel I completely wasted my time. :/

My copy is from the original print run. Back then Pioneer LDC also made damn sure that its products used all 5.1 channels when they could.

So guys I was watching reaction videos of people crying while watching Ano Hana finale and while reading the comments I kept seeing people mention Clannad After Story. Are the two anime really that similar? I kinda dismissed it at first cause of how ugly the girls all look from the pictures.

Well if you liked Ano Hana then presumably you will enjoy Clannad since its a better show and has similar melodrama.

It's amazing how much technical drawing is in that show. It's almost UY "we've got these animators just lying around!" syndrome.

Which would make sense, given Tenchi's clear ties to UY.

It's pretty impressive how this show manages to transition from comedy to serious so effortlessly.

Mr. Raindrop, falling away from me now ~♪

This show good. Chihaya cute. Karuta boring (but the seriousness with which they take the 'sport' is pretty amusing, enough to keep me interested whenever they focus on it in the show. I giggled when they did that slow-motion card flip at the end). Team Taichi.

So I'm going through my annual fling with One Piece and just marathoned the Amazon Lily arc and am going through Impel Down. It still amazes me how a silly children's cartoon with such ridiculous character designs can bring out such strong emotions in me. It must be the villains, Luffy is like a Christ figure who endures such tough beatings and I can't wait for him to arise from the dead and dish out some holy justice with his fists.

ps Boa Hancock is hawt~

You are going to LOVE the next few arcs.

Impel Down and the following arc were my favorite (second only to Alabasta).

Horizon 4

It begins! Damn, ED change too. Could we be entering a wham arc?

The horned girl is awesome. There should be a game starring her. Imagine a crazy action adventure game making use of her ability to manipulate stuff and shape them into weapons or shields or whatever.

Based off the way the episode ends,
there's gonna be some huge shit going down next episode. Seems like we've gotten beyond our setup phase so it's time for the characters to start strutting.

And Kazuno is pretty awesome.
I just hope she lives, even if she is just a doll :/

@One Piece - I wish I had the time to sit down and watch all of it. I keep meaning to go and watch the awesome arcs but I never remember about it when I have the time :(

I know what you mean, my brief flings with OP have gone back at least 6ish years. Each time I marathon around 1 or 2 arcs before I burn out and have to take a break. Thankfully I'm now only 100 episodes behind, I might catch up next year~!

-russion boss woman watchin anal porn
-Rock and Revy need to get a room already so they can shut the fuck up

DTL you can watch dbz on youtube

Horizon ep 4

If I got her name right, then Honda was awesome. Mind blown at the ability to throw and shape those slabs of cement into swords and shields, epic.

Wanted to finish watching DBZ but stupid Funimation/Hulu apparently took out episodes 11-24, while keeping 1-10 and 25-62, which doesnt make much sense...Do I miss much by skipping to 25?

I don't know if she has a full name or not (since she's
an automaton doll like the other maids and P-01S
) but you're thinking of Kazuno;
Honda Futayo is the daughter that was sent onto the ship and Honda Tadakatsu is the old man preparing for battle at the end of the episode.

Natsume's Book of Friends 6

I cried.
Love between human and youkai is doomed from the start, but at least a connection can be made, if only for one fleeting moment...

Also, if I haven't praised them before, the OP and ED are perfect bookends for this show.
