They just traded a first round pick -- that eventually becomes UNPROTECTED -- and several players for Jon Leuer just to save $4mil, wtf?

I'm not saying DAntoni is awful or blaming his coaching ability as much as the timing of the hire. I don't particularly care for Pringles but if you are bringing him in, do it in the offseason so he has time to get his system integrated and the FO has time to give him a roster equipped to run it. As for Brown, he's just incompetent and they should have fired him after last seasons collapse when it became clear he had no respect from the team and had no business coaching a veteran group.

What exactly are you saying scooter?

Cavs can't use 1st round pick until 2015 at earliest. Protected 1-5 and 15-30 in '15 and '16, 1-5 in '17 and '18, unprotected in '19.

Getting under the luxury tax is totally worth this. Expect a ton of teams to do similar deals now.

Guys, I ate lunch with Enes Kanter and his friends yesterday. It was weird, because his friends were all 19 and 20 year old kids. I forget how young he is. Interesting hearing friends of an NBA player talk about the NBA though. We were watching the Memphis/Indy game at the time.

Best line came from Enes right after Rudy Gay took a terrible shot. "Rudy Gay shooting stupid shot and getting paid like that? Why don't I start shooting three pointers?"

Also, they all pretty much said that they would rather Wade take the last shot over Lebron, but that they'd want Lebron taking every other. They also think that Bosh should only get credit for half a championship and that his ring should have been a pin on pendant instead. That was...weird.

The Bosh stuff is dumb, we looked so bad without him, him coming back was huge for us.

That's pretty badass actually, did you ask him about Jefferson or Millsap resigning?

No, but they all have man crushes on G-TYME. I expected as much.

I was wearing my Jazz jacket yesterday and was meeting a friend for lunch. Enes came in alone and they sat him right next to me. He said he liked the jacket, and then asked if I wanted to sit with him and that he had two more friends coming. I told him I had one friend, and he said it was fine. So yeah, we watched the game with him and it was cool. Super chill dude, but he got weird when I tried to caress his abs.

I wasn't here to talk about this yesterday. Can we talk about this?

I mean, a high draft pick? I don't know if that's enough for deadly sharpshooting 7 footer Andrea Bargnani and his Dirk-like potential. I think he would be a natural fit for the Bobcats team culture though.

Why would anyone in Toronto say no to a deal like that?

There is no way in hell the Bobcats would be dumb enough to trade their pick to Bargs.

Oh hey, the Cavs actually have a little bit of depth now

(or at least more than they had before, I still have no idea how Luke Walton is playing 15 MPG)

Get under the tax, Leuer will get to play and honestly nobody the Grizzlies gave up were that good to begin with.

You cannot keep justify paying the luxury tax for the likes of the guys they just shipped out of town. They had to get under it, they got under it, they gained a TPE in the deal. Hollinger and company are playing by the 5% rule this year. The Grizzlies are going to have to blow it up because of cap ramifications at some point. They are just delaying it for the rest of the year for the chance of winning it this year.

Instead of trading Gay now they are just shoving it till the offseason. Basically the Grizzlies FO gave Hollins what he wanted.

Dwight's mouthpiece Jarrod Rudolph is starting the Brooklyn horn again

The Brooklyn Nets are preparing to make another run at Dwight Howard, according to a source.

Playing in Brooklyn with Deron Williams and Joe Johnson was at the top of Howard’s list last summer and the Nets are convinced that he still has a strong desire to make the Barclays Center his home office. The Nets have played well under P.J. Carlesimo and feel like the addition of Howard could be the piece that gets them to the NBA Finals.

Nets general manager Billy King has closely monitored the struggling Lakers and quietly searched for a third team with an attractive piece that would help facilitate a trade that would deliver Howard to the Nets, according to sources.

The Lakers have struggled through injuries, a coaching change and a lack of chemistry this season. The team is currently 17-24 and facing the reality that missing the playoffs seems inevitable. The feeling out of Brooklyn is that Howard can be had for the right price because of the Lakers’ struggles and long-term commitment to a collection of pieces that just don’t seem to fit or complement Howard’s assortment of skills.

The only missing element was a third team with an attractive piece that would force the Lakers to consider the future of the franchise and directly question Howard about the direction he’s leaning at this point of the season. King, according to sources, was confident that he had a trade proposal that was a perfect fit for all teams involved.

According to sources, King was planning to contact the Minnesota Timberwolves in order to gauge their interest in a three-team trade that would send Kevin Love to the Lakers, Brook Lopez to the Timberwolves and Dwight Howard to the Nets. Other small pieces would need to be included, but the proposed trade was thought to be intriguing enough to start conversations in the Lakers front office that would force them to deal with Howard earlier than planned.

That idea, however, was shelved when Love was sidelined 8-10 weeks with a broken hand. The Nets believed the Lakers would be interested in Love, but not an injured Love, even if they’re facing missing the playoffs, according to sources.

King will still look around for an attractive piece for the Lakers, but won’t make getting Howard as big a priority as last season, according to sources. But he will continue to watch the Lakers and explore intriguing trade options, sources said.

They've done dumber shit with Higgins running things.

Because of that, its the best bluff in the league.

"Oh really? Well the Bobcats offered me a 1st for Tyrus Thomas"

Giving up the first round pick is stupid. The Blazers couldn't get a first round pick for JJ Hickson straight up at the moment -- and they shouldn't. But three players AND a first round pick? Stupid.

Next year Pau's 19.3 mil expiring must have some owner drooling...right....RIGHT?!

Sure lots of people

Problem is that the Lakers want a number of players who make a bigger impact than Pau while also not wanting those contracts to go beyond 2014.

Lakers shouldn't worry about any of that anyway. The real concern they should have is what they are going to do about Kobe. Dwight probably resigns but if Kobe collects another monster contract there won't be any money left to sign anyone else.

The Kobe who's scoring 30ppg on good percentages while having a big highlight every other game isn't going to retire after next season.

You do know that both Ellington and Speights have gone off for over 20 each this season right? Speights is a legit 16/8 guy if starting and Ellington is easily a 10+ points a night guy if he started. I understand trying to get under the cap, but basically giving away our bench + picks doesn't make much sense, especially when crappy players like Bayless get to stick around at the same time.
