Why is it weird? The businesses are a proxy for the state, so that local businesses will put additional pinch on the idiotic lawmakers codifying discrimination.

The one group with any clout in the state that tried and failed to get the bill killed and are now going to be punished by both sides. Excellent way to make sure state business organizations keep silent on social issues moving forward. Essentially the people opposed to the bill will now lose their only in-state ally. It's an irrational and vindictive lashing out at businesses because they are the only available target.

Of course the Governor and the yayhoos in the state house are insulated - they're local officials.

The Chamber of Commerce isn't going to arbitrarily flip around and take a defensive position on the law. The goal is to prove that the law hurts businesses and hurts people and squeeze the house.

What's the alternative action that major state investors and lateral municipalities can take? Protests have limited efficacy - you need to hurt the state's pocket book.

It sucks for the businesses and employees and employers, but they elected the goober that thought it was a good idea to codify (arbitrary) discrimination in state law.

Grantland article calling Wisconsin a team for 1915. Amazing. Apparently no one who is paid to watch college basketball actually watches college basketball.

He didn't call Wisconsin a team for 1915. It was a joke about Bo Ryan being a coach for 1915, and he totally is.

BREAKING: VCU's Shaka Smart is in discussions with Texas about its head coaching vacancy, sources told @CBSSports. Story coming.

I'm sorry for doubting you, Mr. Texas AD

Luke Kennard just won the McD's All-American Three Point Contest

No matter the results of this weekend, Duke's taking a step back next year (probably a significant step back, but bring me a title and they can be 0fer next year for all I care), but damn if they won't be scrappy again.

Kennard and Allen will be the most hated duo in college athletics by...February.

Kennard is going to be good, he'll be way better than Allen. I really wanted him to come to UK =[

Chase Jeter will be good also.

What happened with UT and Cuonzo Martin? He had that nice sweet 16 run and then...was fired?

Fans wanted him fired after the regular season. They just got into the tournament and there was a perception they were under achieving up to that point. After the Sweet 16 run, he left after dealing with that shit.

Damn, Chris Webber is blasting Cauley-Stein for some reason on TV (Mike & Mike).

“Let’s just be honest: If you’re a junior in basketball and seven-feet and average under 10 points, you’re telling me he can be a DeAndre Jordan? There’s no way. Come on.”

“This kid is like seven-foot and weighs two hundred,” C-Webb continued. “He won’t start in the league. You can’t play in the league if you can’t score, people.”

The example he rejects is DeAndre Jordan...who averages 8 points a game for his career. This Chris guy ain't too bright.

edit:
hopefully he can have an NBA career

That is the thought process that gets GMs fired.

WCS will be able to score enough off just tip ins and lob dunks, and he will should instantly be a top 15 or so defensive player in the league. He is basically tailor made to defend modern NBA offense.

You almost have to have a guy like that, that can fill the holes created by the defensive deficiencies of other player on the team, to be any good unless you have multiple top 10 players otherwise.

This is just old school big man venting about what the position has become in today's game, because he surely can't believe what he said.

There are maybe 15 big men in the NBA that can create offense for themselves in an efficient way(and I might be generous here). It's a dead ended part of the game that only works in exceptional cases because of modern defenses ability to defend post plays in ways that earlier defenses weren't allowed to and because (most) teams and coaches have realized the efficiency of the three point shot.

But really anyone who says anything about an athletic UK big man not being able to score should probably hold up a bit before proclaiming such after AD and Noel.

Both of those guys were supposed to be one way defensive specialists in the league(AD to a lesser extent, but still) and they are showing that they can get buckets with the best of them. Athletic big men who get their offense off cuts and rolls to the basket are the new NBA big man game. Static post game is not as efficient in the vast majority of cases.

Webber went on an extended rant after that about how players these days can't compare to older ones, college basketball sucks, blah blah. Whole segment felt like an old man yelling at clouds.

Yeah like I said, old school big man bitching about the way the game has changed.

Anyone who says players today are less skilled is clearly delusional though, and there are plenty of stats to back it up. Basically any measurable 'skill' statistic like FT% or FG% or AST% are basically unchanged since the 70s. There was about a decade long bump in FG% from 78-88, but otherwise it has always hovered around .44 to .46. Most percentage based stats have varied very little from the mean over the years. The two exceptions being a slight drop in FTA/FGA and a little steeper decline in OR%, reflecting the increased perimeter focus. TOV% has gone down meanwhile.

Certain skills have been deprecated, like post play, but that's just a stylistic quirk, not some tragic loss of player skill. If offenses are overall as efficient without post play as with it, who gives a shit?

Maybe rules should be shifted to loosen up the paint and allow post up play to be more efficient, or maybe the current offensive styles are just a fad and post up bigs will dominate the league again in 10 years. Who knows?

He was a bad coach. Wasted NBA talent left to him and couldn't recruit for shit. Tyndall was a much better coach. Too bad he sucked at cheating.

Having said that Barnes is exactly the type of coach we need right now.

I'm sure there are old school broadcasters out there going on extended rants about how unskilled Chris Webber is at calling a game.

What's weird is Cuonzo could have one of the 2 or 3 best classes for 2015 if he lands Ivan Rabb, Caleb Swanigan and Jaylen Brown. Some media guys are predicting all three will go there. Kinda random.

Can't link the article because I read it on Snapchat, but ESPN is already declaring the 2014-2015 Kentucky basketball team as one of the top 20 teams, across all sports, in the past 20 years. Right up there with Michael Jordan's 1996 Chicago Bulls, the 2013 Seattle Seahawks, and the 2004 Boston Redsox.

Ugh. Jinxing assholes.

He dumped the Vols, turning down a contract extension: http://www.cbssports.com/collegebas...-cuonzo-martin-knew-it-was-time-to-leave-vols

Was it hard? Yes, it was definitely hard; Martin won't deny that. But he went out of his way several times to make sure I understood that there were "a lot of wonderful people in Knoxville," and he insisted that he's pulling for his successor, former Southern Miss coach Donnie Tyndall, before explaining that he thinks the administration and fans will support their new coach because their new coach has three things going for him:

  1. He's not following Pearl.
  2. He's a lot more like Pearl than Martin could ever be.
  3. Pearl, now at Auburn, is no longer a candidate in the eyes of fans.
"The fan base got used to Bruce, and then they brought in somebody opposite of Bruce, so it was hard," Martin said. "But, I think, now Donnie can just be Donnie. The slate is clean."

And situation better -- certainly for Martin and probably for Tennessee, too.

Lots of rich quotes in that now.

All that said, I think Barnes is huge get for Tennessee. Will be interesting to see how he does with a new program.

Going back on the big man game, we got a whole slew of big men in this years draft and previous drafts that all look really good. We had a massive storm of guards and small forwards who were uber talented, and we see that in the current NBA. But the big man drafts just in the past 3 years are making some really good prospects. Nerlens Noel, Embiid, Okafor, Towns, WCS are all going to be dynamic players in the NBA barring injury, hell, Embiid if he stays healthy might have the best post games in a while and might be one of the most dynamic offensive talents in the league.

Big men are just really injury prone nowadays due to the speed of the game picking up and the super athleticism lends itself to big men injuring their legs easily. Also, big men cant just stay in the paint anymore, and have to move around a lot more to cover the outside shooters of the league. They also take longer to develop then guards and small forwards generally.

But this is all irrelevant because Frank the Tank is GOAT (its gonna be interesting to see if he turns into Spencer Hawes or Dirk Nowitzki) Frank is one of the most interesting prospects in the draft right now, as its going to be tough to see if his offensive post game will translate to the NBA. Outside of his post game, Frank is a really good ball handler for a big guy, obviously a really good shooter, and is suprisingly fast. He struggles on defense in the post against bigger opponents, but I dont see him playing a true center role in the NBA, and his perimeter defense is solid.

Go back one more year and you have Anthony Davis and Andre Drummond. Lots of quality big men coming out of college lately.

Yeah it's not about lack of quality big men, it's just that the style of play has changed, which is why Webber's point was nonsensical.

Less post, more face up game, more cutting and pick and roll off the ball instead of setting up for isos on the block. I don't see how anyone can argue that AD is not one of the more skilled big men to play the game after what he has done in only his first 3 seasons.

Did ESPN launch their new design website design today? I don't think I noticed it before today but I usually browse on my iPad.

It just updated for me on desktop. Another site succumbs to mobile-oriented redesign, sacrificing all those practical layouts for lots of white space and big text.

Melo Trimble is going back to Maryland.

The powers that be at The Worldwide Leader will no doubt have Duke playing Maryland in the ACC-B1G challenge next year.

Hopefully in Cameron, I don't want to give them the satisfaction of a win at College Park.
