2016 PC Screenshot Thread of No Compromises

TW3
...
Booooooh though to Flickr's compression. :(

Link the original upload, there is no additional compression on that (or is that file too large?)
Edit: Checked the original, jpeg blocking artefacts are already there, visible in the sky. Which is unusual unless that is already in the picture!
Did you use an image compositor to make a pano out of several pictures? The compression could come from a setting in that application.

Probably in the skybox. Sometimes the sky\clouds in that game look a bit iffy. This is something I tend to complain about a lot in games. That, and LOD :)

Thanks Jim and Timu, it's such a basic question, but sometimes it just seems like the tools I'm using are inadequate in their own special way.
For some reason people don't say Bandicam even though it's easily one of the best for taking screenshots.

Any good suggestions on software to take screenshots with? Steam doesn't include post-processing, Playclaw unfortunately crashes on Unity games, Fraps I haven't checked in ages. Maybe MSI Afterburner?

I just want something that's able to capture post-processing (Reshade/Sweetfx) without interferring with the game (Reshade's own screenshot functionality stops the game for like 2-3 seconds to write to disk).
GeDoSaTo can capture multiple 4k screenshots per second :P
PNGs too.

I'm looking at these Witcher 3 shots and I can't help but wonder what the fuck some people are talking about when they say the game is graphically underwhelming.

It consistently looks better than nearly any other game posted ITT.

I've found my sweet spot in post processing for Dragon's Dogma. ENB + GeDo PP.

It's basically a mix of Wickfuts ENB preset with high precision color enabled, and my GeDo post processing settings I had already made.

I love it. I feel like it transitions the visuals from just being better to consoles, to actually appealing.

Who says that?

I've heard that from a few people honestly; your shots always seem to silence that particular misguided point of view.

By the way, your shots from Witcher 3 convinced me to keep my 980 Ti. I was thinking I'd sell it, and then I'd see another one of your 21:9 compositions, wet myself slightly, and decide that even if mine doesn't look quite that phenomenal, I can't settle for less than Ultra in that game anymore. Keep up the great work.

PNGs too.

All too familiar with your amazing work, Durante :P

Unfortunately I can't use it with DX11 games and it doesn't capture Reshade post-processing, only your own or Asmodean post-processing.

From a visual point of view, it's funny that Telltale uses so many close-ups in their games. I blame their engine that probably restrict them from doing long shots, so they instead resort to lots of close-up to hide the flaws of the engine.

I can understand thinking that the foliage could be better if you're sticking your note up against it. And that the LOD could be better. And the water....

But as a whole, the game is just freakin gorgeous.

Yeah.... I need 2 of them. The curse of wanting good image quality all the time =(

I'll tell you what. I could give a shit about composition. The only rule I care about is "does it look pretty?" Because that pretty much trumps all else for me.

By the way, what do any of you do with your original BMPs/PNGs after you've converted to JPGs? Do you keep the source images or do you delete the old stuff in order to free up space? I'm not sure if I should just delete all the old stuff I have in order to free up space, since I have the JPG versions anyway.

Keep those PNGs and delete the JPGs.

I only save downsampled JPGs for uploading to the internet. When I store stuff, I keep them in the original resolution and convert to PNGs in FastStone using these settings:

Compare to a 100% quality JPG:

Not a huge difference. I just prefer to have PNGs in storage instead of JPGs. The original BMPs are deleted.

BMP source will be deleted. Most of the time I only keep the 98% JPGs.

Delete them. Starting with 2016 I'm uploading JPGs to Flickr to have a place where I'll keep whatever I want to save. Here's hoping that their free 1TB tier will be enough for me for a couple of years.

Beggers and Choosers

24440472521_7630785ffe_o.png

I initially wanted this scene with one of the rich women who walk around the streets but I couldn't find the right moment with all the actors required, or when a lady was passing by the begger, the lighting was off or something else sucked. So in the end I decided to act in my own play.

And the water....

This is the worst aspect with W3 for me, in graphics terms... Is there some reason no one has managed to mod the water texture to give a smaller wave frequency, and generally make it look better?... It was the same with Skyrim, but I'm sure it didn't take long for something better to come along.
