21:9 Gaming Thread | That cinematic feel

Pretty awesome the asus came out

I blew my cash on a x34, but I loved the stand on the ROG swift.

I"m actually interested in hearing how good the stand is (lol)

are there any differences between the X34 and the Asus one? The asus PG34Q (?) is £100 more but sold out which has apparently made it more desirable to me :p

Question if you were to get the 2560x1080 21:9 and played games windowed @ 1920x1080 do you have enough space to act like a second monitor?

You would have enough space for some stuff, It can be alright for minimal web browsing.

Think about it like this, It can be like the XBOX One's Snap feature, the snapped app on the side is roughly how much space there would be (it would be slightly bigger, but that's what you should expect web browsing experience wise).

EDIT:
I decided to do a screenshot also, This should show you what I mean:

Well, I went with 2 27" monitors a couple of weeks ago after having 3 21" monitors.

I thought "tri-monitor gaming is annoying, I will get 1 for productivity and 1 for gaming". Turns out I was more frustrated not using that desk space and dollars spent on gaming.

A few returns later, and I now own an LG 34" 34UM67-P.

Let me say, this size cures my want for multiple monitors. Also it is as big as I want at my desk. If it was bigger I would have to sit back.

When higher resolutions come down in price I will probably get something else, but for my hardware, I can safely say I am 100% happy.

Gaming on this is a dream at 75hz. Just wow. I am not super picky on pixel density so even regular windows/browsing feels just fine.

This monitor is legit.

anyone have an aoc 34 u3477pqu?

I'm trying to figure out why I can't select PBP (side by side) and only PiP is available. My main source is DP from my PC, and the second input is HDMI (Apple TV).

Also the PiP window only seems to be 4:3. There is an extras menu that apparantly lets you change the ratio but that part is greyed out (maybe it only applies to the main input?)

I'm going to wait a bit to buy a 21:9. My 680GTX 4GB won't be able to keep up, so I'm in the process of waiting for the new Pascal chips before I do my new build.

This way I'll be able to see what else comes to the market. Hurry up Nvidia. :-)

I'm using a gtx 660 ti with my UW1080p

Not that I could run ultra before anyways but I get nearly the same results as I did on a regular 1080p

I got the x34 as a present and am now part of the 21:9 family.

First impression are that the screen is massive, and has amazing build quality. The panel itself offers so much space, and looks gorgeous even coming from a 1440p 27" monitor.
Any recommendations for games that look gorgeous?

Star Wars Battlefront. BF4. If you like shooters of course. :)

So is there any word on when we might get 3440x1440 144Hz Gsync monitors?

I thought I recall there being a bit of news about them at the beginning of the year but I'll be damned if I can find it. Maybe I dreamt it :o

I'm sorely tempted to buy the X34, but if there's a 144Hz "upgrade" on the horizon...

Yea I wasn't going to and a few hours later that thread showed up and made me feel better about my decision.
I'm still absolutely loving my x34, it's a beast of a monitor. Coming from a cheap Korean monitor the adjustable stand of the x34 is a breath of fresh air.
I was slightly worried about the flickering issue when booting from sleep, and back light bleed but neither is an issue
, slight bleed in the bottom corners which I suspect has to do with the curve.

The only thing that bummed me out a little was the lack of support for a good chunk of games, mainly for seemingly any Blizzard game, Dragons Dogma and DS2/3, granted there are fixes but they don't offer a perfect experience. That said playing Hitman has been an amazing experience. Biggest surprise so far was that Stardew Valley offer perfect 21:9 support as well, which turns out looks gorgeous on a wide screen.

All in all I couldn't be happier with it.

So i heard the new Asus PG348Q has been delayed until May which is why we havent seen it pop up in stores yet.

I mean in America, i know its out in Europe already.

Picked up my second LG 29 inch ultra wide monitor. Best Buy had one open boxed for $175 with no damage. Had to snag it for that price. Having two just makes the ultra wide experience even better. Now just waiting on that Dota 2 HUD fix.

Is it worth it to do 1440p ultrawide screen or are people generally sticking with 1080p ultrawide screen? I am looking to get a Polaris card (eventually) and I read 1080p ultrawide is 2k and 1440p is 4k?

The 2k naming can be confusing as different sources relate it to different elements of the aspect ratio, leading to confusion as to what it exactly is. Some consider 1440p as 2k given the MUCH higher pixel density, while others would argue that 1080p is 2k given the horizontal resolution count being closer to the literal '2k' description. Basically just ignore the term and know that currently there are two standards for 21:9 resolutions for single monitor use:

2560x1080p - essentially classic '1080p' with a few added inches to each side.
3440x1440p - native on most newer 21:9 monitors and a pretty steep performance hike for gaming.

These are NEITHER 4k.

4k effectively refers to a 16:9 resolution of 3840x2160p, the 21:9 version would be 5120x2160p...which I have never seen available for use at a consumer facing level currently. (Not sure 4k monitors even exist in 21:9 yet anyway!)

The only one that I know off is the LG 105UC9T, but the price for that comes in at roughly 100k.

I'm interested in the X34, but the $1700 price in Canada is ridiculous.

I have the hardware to run it (980Ti), but I just can't justify spending that much money on a monitor. Are these monitors expected to drop in price any time soon?

I suspect the X34/XR341CK will drop in price with the release of the updated model (XR342CK), somewhere in Q2 this year. We haven't got any updates on a release date since its announcement at CES though.

Starting to see more and more games NOT supporting 21:9. This is not the way I expected it to go.

Dark Souls 3

Doom (beta)

Ugh. I absolutely hate playing Dark Souls 3 in 16:9. Kinda want to stop and wait for an ultrawide fix.

Yeah it's a bummer. Overwatch Beta also doesn't support 21:9. I'd have thought most 2016 releases would have it. Hopefully the rest of the year doesn't have so many omissions.

Dark Souls 3 seems like it'd be an amazing fit for 21:9.
