Basically, watching him put on an outfit straight out of MGS4, complete with Body Armor and Face Camo was one of the best moment's I've ever seen.
I am rooting for Jack all the way, basically he's done everything for his country--the last 10 minutes of S6, the convo with Heller told it all.
He's given everything, left the country, agreed to come back to save some kids, had to save his best friend/send him to jail after said friend poisoned him, cured by his daughter, finally meets someone who can shoot a gun, she dies after they were out and about to leave, he finds out who's responsible, the president says "no ty", tries to lock him up, and finds out that the bastard that started this train of fail is still alive and giving orders after never being brought to justice?
And this is after stopping an assassination, catching a war criminal, stopping a nuclear bomb, stopping a war, stopping a supervirus, stopping a nuclear missile, stopping nerve gas attacks led by the President, suitcase nukes, another war, all while watching his wife die, his lover comatose, daughter estranged, cutting off his partner's hand, killing his mentor, killing a good friend, killing his lover mole, watching countless friends die, and never being thanked.
Yep, over the edge. It's like Kratos in God of War 3, just move out of the way.
Side note, I am waitingto see this blow-up in Taylor's face--never take advice from a snake.
So I uh... won't be reading any replies but I'm catching up on this season and rewatched season 7 prior to catch my friend up on it. It reminded me how awesome that season is. Definitely in my top three seasons with 5 and 1. I've never seen a show rebound from such a terrible previous season so well.
As far as season 8 goes, I've basically heard "the first half is lame but at the halfway point it turns into awesomeness" from people. I think it was PhoenixDark who said in another thread "who would have thought 24 would go out better than Lost?"
Honestly I think the only BAD season of 24 is 6 and that season 4 is mediocre. I thought the first half of season 8 was still good stuff but with some boring moments, such as every second Dana was on the screen. Didn't think I would enjoy Freddie Prinze Jr. as Cole but I ended up liking him. Shame he gets sucked into the terrible Dana subplot.
However, I just finished episode 13 and that was a nice HOLY SHIT! ending. I don't even care that they used the mole device again because I honestly didn't see it coming at all. And at least it makes sense, of course the woman who changed her identity would end up being a mole.
Surprisingly, I've enjoyed the Hassan family stuff. I think Omar is just an overall good character though. Loving Chloe this season too. "You're probably a nice guy when you're not on the job. And you have a wedding ring." :lol
I also found that I don't get tired of CTU getting fucked up. Season 8 and I still found that EMP ending exciting. One thing I didn't see coming was Middle Eastern Sylar faking his death and just setting her up.
Oh, and I thought that entire scene with the suicide bomber and his mother, followed by Jack being a giant asshole to him and failing to save him, was great.
So now that I'm over halfway through catching up on the show, I figured I would just rant with some thoughts. Definitely enjoyed the first half, though slower paced and with a particularly awful subplot. Nowhere near as good as season 7 but it's good enough to make me sad that the show is ending without an entire season to prep. (Would have loved to see Tony again -- and I heard Aaron isn't in this season at all. Breaking the streak during the last season = no good, 24 writers!)
Excited to see where it goes in the second half as it's definitely picked up since episode 11.
I cant even rank the seasons now. Its been so long since the first 4 seasons.
The first four episodes of season 6 were amazing but after that the show wasnt that good. This season is the first time since 5 Ive been looking forward to the next episode.
Huge 24 fan here. For every other season I've been in these threads, but I was way behind for the first time this season. Started a Season 8 marathon a couple days ago and I'm finally caught up.
I think Season 8 one of the best seasons for the series. Yes, the first 12 hours didn't do anything amazing. Pretty much typical 24 stuff all throughout...which wasn't a bad thing. Unlike most people around here, I walked away from Season 7 with a sour taste in my mouth. The introduction of the Renee character was needed, but all the Tony heel turns was a low point for the series.
But this season, from episode 15 onwards the show has been in overdrive. They're doing a really good job of amping up for an awesome finale. I can't believe tomorrow is it...no more 4 hour season premieres. Wow, I'm still in shock.
I can't believe the show is ending forever. I remember buying the DVDs of seasons 3, 4, and 5, and watching them all the way through over about 3 days. While the show has had it's low points (most of season 6, first half of season 8) the character of Jack has always stayed interesting and watching him on a rampage these last few weeks has been great. I will be fascinated to see what they do in the finale.
Season 8 has been incredible. I loved the slow pace at the start and then loved it even more when it stepped up a gear at the halfway point.
I've watched 24 since the start and nothing compares to that first season where you just had no idea what an insane ride you were in for. I'd probably rate the seasons as:
Season 8 has been inconsistent with the quality. It is having some damn awesome final episodes, but for the most part the first half of the season was met with a ton of moaning and complaints from fans and especially here on gaf. Even with how awesome the final eps been, the season just has been uneven, and it has been one of the worst seasons when it came to plot holes.
I'll leave Season 8 out until the finale airs tonight, but assuming it finishes as strongly as the last several hours suggest it will, it'll likely end up around the level of Season 7. Alone, the second half of S8 is better than just about anything since S5, but it's simply weighed down by a boring and unremarkable first half.
Seasons 1, 2, and 5 are all fantastic-- some of my favorite seasons of any TV show; 3 is uneven, as is 7, 4 is mediocre but with some excellent sequences, and outside the first 4 hours, 6 is irredeemable shit.
Still, for all its ups and downs, 24 has consistently provided fantastic entertainment over the last 10 years, and I'll miss it greatly. It's still hard for me to accept that it's really over, but I can't wait to see how it all ends tonight.

I actually liked the first half of Season 8. Yeah, it was nowhere as good as the latter half. And yeah, the first 4 hours were a lot weaker than usual. But I thought the first 12 hours of 8 were a lot more subdued than usual. We got the typical stuff, but the writers didn't go nuts. The mole reveal actually made sense, and none of the characters acted too ridiculous. Plus I loved the Renee/Jack undercover team-up.
Tony ruined Season 7 for me. It seemed pretty obvious that the writers weren't sure what they were going to do with him the whole way through. Bringing him back as a bad guy was enough of a stretch, but then you turn him back into a good guy, and then back into a bad guy again. It was all too much for me to swallow. Almost everything involving Tony in S7 felt like shock for the sake of shock, at least to me.
Another thing that irked me in Season 7 was Jack's condition because of the bioweapon. There was like no tension with him being exposed. I remember them revealing very early on that there was an experimental procedure that involved getting stem cells from a close relative...oh look, Kim showed up. They drew the whole thing out for so many episodes, it just felt dumb. Even though bringing that up in the 23rd hour might have seemed like a copout, at least it would have kept some tension about his outcome. I wanted a Season 5 level finale, I mean tell me you didn't shit your pants when the Chinese captured Jack. Best finale the series has ever had.
Where the hell is the series finale thread?
Helloooooooooooo it's the series finale in less than 5 hours!! Don't disappoint Jack Bauer!
I hope the 24 finale is better than that of L O S T.
