Well, that's what they did to the Sec. of Defense's son. Since they're in a state of emergency (essentially), they have to take drastic measures.
Not only that, but Driscoll herself noted that the guy they picked up from the laundromat WAY back in the premiere (Sharik, or whatever), only talked when Jack shot him in the leg, and that normal questioning was going nowhere. Now, they're faced with a similarly dire situation, and she isn't pussyfooting around this one. Hell, the dialogue itself justified her actions in the eyes of the viewers.
Loved the trick with making the viewer assume they had gotten Marianne automatically, and then them walking right by her to Sarah's desk. As someone says, Jack had no reason to know this person. Driscoll was the one person who knew her, and was thus skeptical, and Edgar just plan didn't believe it. I felt that the entire mole situation was handled very well, and resolved quickly enough that my initial bitching about it now seems like cynicall bullshit.
Tony's in bad shape, y'all. Alcoholic whose slutty girlfriend is paying his bills while he sits at home watching obviously tape delayed football? That's gotta hurt. Considering that Michelle deputy director at Division, chances are we may be seeing her and Tony have a bit of a reunion in the future. And yes, that is pure speculation, I have absolutely no idea if she'll be showing up.
As per the end, I have to say that it was to be expected. What 24 loves to do is take a situation that looks like it is going badly (Helicopter is going to take off), and then tension enters the picture, and then the tension dies down (They escort him out of the Helicopter) and then some guy shoots someone. Ding Ding! We've got the end of an hour on 24. Same thing last week, really. All sorts of power plants to explode. Edgar has a program that may or may not work. It seems to work, and everyone is happy...and then 6 stop entirely.
Is it predictable? Yes. At the same time, you have to wonder what exactly was this guy's role, and the same with Marianne's. I mean, obviously this guy had some sort of role in the overall scheme of things, since he seemed to be their tech guy in learning about the technology aspects of the override, but why did HE have a mole in CTU? And how did he know to have a mole in CTU? What in the hell did he, personally, have to gain with that mole. All she really did was protect and shield him from harm, and seemingly cared not about the overall mission statement. Should be interesting.
I liked this episode. I enjoyed the pacing, enjoyed the twists, and enjoyed the rapid-fire ending. There are always slow spots in a 24 season...but I think that in having 8 episodes in a month, they've essentially made them seem much less slow. Really, we're getting in the good stuff much faster than usual due to the sweeps period, and I can honestly say it's making for entertaining TV.
This is such an awesome TV Week; Amazing Race finale, 100th Episode of the Gilmore Girls (Shut up or die, seriously), and the return of the Lost/Alias block. And Veronica Mars comes back from its hiatus. Times are good.
Oh...and generally the 24 torrent is up at around 10:30 EST.
