season 5-6-7 is when it becomes metal gear the series.

Haha yeah, especially Season 7 with the PMC stuff, FoxDie Jack and whatnot... the GAF threads were quite amusing with all the MGS comparisons. Now that Kiefer is officially Snake I'm looking forward to more of those this season :p

Is there anyone from Robocop in this?

I think they're all dead. They've literally used up every single one apart from Ray Wise, who is miraculously still alive.

Peter Weller/Henderson - dead
Paul McCrane/Graem - dead
Kurtwood Smith/Meyer - dead
Ray Wise/Vice President Dude - alive

I mean they could hire new ones, Ronny Cox is still working!

The black dude from Robocop still lives. He was a secret service guy in the first season.

I had the tv on in the background and an early 90's episode of Beverley Hills 90210 was on. President Charles Logan had a small role as a priest..... he still had the famous smirk on his face in some of the scenes. The evil dude!

Today I finished Season 8, streaming it on Prime. I was fine with the expected CTU has a mole, CTU is attacked, family of the President is a traitor, Presidential staff are shady, tropes the show dealt with. Those final hours though were building up to something more than what we got. Like Jack really going to a point of no return, instead it didn't satisfy me. I understand Jack being out for revenge after Renee's assassination. I would be too. Everything else that happens in addition to his motivation for revenge felt like a mess.

I think it starts with all this "lockdown" stuff that just starts getting mentioned over and over again. Or the awful, AWFUL, CGI for Jack's helicopter escape. Was this a quick fix for something else that had been planned? You've got President Taylor that pulls a 180 and starts to do a lot of uncharacteristic things, seemingly only for the final scenes of redemption where she saves Jack from an execution. Yeah, President Logan is a weasel and he can be a sly person when convincing others, but come on, it was like the show wanted to add more roadblocks to a peace treaty that felt like an afterthought with Hassan's death. Also we've got the revelation that Dana had incriminating tape of what's going on. When she was locked down that should have been the end of her. The field trip to the bank with Cole and Jack as just padding. For whatever reason they felt compelled to have her die at the hands of Jack and then kill McTavish off screen. He's the guy who ordered Renee's killing. We saw the sniper being tortured and gutted like a pig, rightfully so. The guy that made the call get his comeuppance off screen? For all the things that happened in that season and what he did to affect Jack, his death on screen would have meant more than Dana's death.

Well at least it ended with a nice final moments between Jack and Chloe. How we got to that construction site is part of the mess in the final episodes, but it does let us see those two interact one last time in season 8 and Jack show his appreciation of everything Chloe has done for him throughout 8 season.

Not seeing the death of mctavish's character was far, far more effective than if we had seen it.

It was done that way purposefully, leaving the events that happened to the viewers imagination. Not everything in film has to be spelt out to the viewer.

A similar example would be the ear scene in Reservoir Dogs. Do we see it happen? No, and it's far far more affecting because of it.

If Heller is President then doesn't this mean that "The Dark Knight Rises" and by extension the Nolan Batman trilogy takes place in the same universe as "24?"

WAAAIT.

I haven't been following this at all, but I'm a bit fan of the series. Audrey is coming back?! I've been wanting that since season 5! (or was it 6?).

And suddenly I'm rather excited

I know, I know, I know!

I honestly didn't realise this was coming along so soon. Wasn't expecting any information for a while and so didn't bother to look it up. Oh man. Can't wait to see where this goes

Also, the prison chief guy who was talking about Selina Kyle in Blackgate Prison was also a prison chief in Prison Break. He was also in 24 Season 1 who got killed in the bathroom.

true but nothing beats the theory that the wire, law and order and x-files share the same univerrse

Such a weird universe they all share. The wire and law and order I can understand because they are cop shows, but what makes it wild is that somewhere in that universe you have the x files, when you are dealing with scifi and supernatural. I love thinking about it.

Page 24 of a thread on 24. My body is ready. Finished all seasons on netflix a short while ago. Not sure how the new format (it not being a 24 episode season) is going to go.

Unless they really fuck it up it's going to be a huge improvement. The real time format is a neat idea, but there is just so much stuff that is flat out dropped once it's fulfilled its purpose of filling up a few hours, not to mention that there's generally no real sense of danger on either side in the first half because it's too early. Making everything tight and to the point should work wonders.
