Growing up I've always had lefty pride. Whatever dominant hand someone uses is pretty insignificant, but so what? It's not so much about saying [left-handed] people are superior, as it is just being happy with who you are.
I'm also proud of my hair colour, eye colour, dimpled chin, etc...
Oooh, can I register a complaint against the Political Philosophy teacher that had us spent a month on Israel/ Palestine. Because I know I would be a lot happier not having to know about that.
I wish I had known we can opt of out learning things that make us "uncomfortable."
By the looks of it, that is not what is going on here.
I had a similar teacher in middle school if I remember correctly (I remember the teacher, not the grade). He was white as well, but when we talked about racism in this country he made an effort to try and place blame on all "white people". I would feel offended too - I am not my ancestors. I have no problem with any race. Why am I to blame for their troubles? "White people" are not who we should blame for what happened, and for what is going on around the world when it comes to racism. A lot of white people? Yes, but not all of them, and it can be aggravating to be put on the spot in the middle of the class because of an implication that you are the problem.
