Does it have less frame rate issues in 2D? Just in case I can't view 3D. If I ever get a 3DS and this game. I still dunno, lol.
Wait, what?! O_O On that note, I love the fictional planes in the Ace Combat series. AC7, if it ever exists, needs to like have all of them. I was sad to not see the Falken or Wyvern in HD glory in AC6. However, the Nosferatu was pretty sick.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ysKSQkaXB4&feature=related
Something kind of unrelated, but is anyone else obsessed with mysterious planes/jets/fighters in games? This became one of my favorite 'things' in games back when I first played Giga Wing on the Sega Dreamcast. There was this plane called Stranger and no one knew who piloted the jet, where it came from, or which side it was one. But the pilot was good and the characters in the game would always comment on how skillful and graceful, etc. it was.
The Z.O.E jet in Assault Horizon Legacy instantly gave me those vibes and it's one of the main reasons why I think the game is so cool. The video above is a link to Giga Wing to just show the similarities between the two games. It's around the 50 sec mark.
Should have started it on hard. The Ace Combat series tends to be on the easy side, even at the highest difficulty.Picked this up yesterday - will be rotating this and Mario Kart out of my 3DS for the next couple of weeks or so. This is actually the first Ace Combat game I have ever played and an enjoying it so far. It's a little on the easy side so far on normal mode, but I'm only a few missions in.

X is supposed to be the better of the two. I just got it, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. Gamestop has it for $10 online, but it sold out or something.anyone know which is the best PSP one?
Kinda wanna get one of those before getting this one.
Wait, what?!
Oh. It's still good to hear that's unlockable. I had read that it first appeared in 2 but wasn't playable.I don't think they explain the "ZOE" designator. It has nothing to do with the Konami games, though; one of the ZOEs is clearlyFalken, only without the laser and with rear-fire guns/missiles instead

Yeah, I already looked at the plane list.Uh, I think it's unlockable but only have Gamefaqs to go off of that. I just know that you fight it...
Looks alright but I'm saving my money for Time Commando 3DS.
Tell me more of this 'Time Commando 3DS' you speak of.
Those are early shots of the game. Plus it looks better in motion with the motion blur filter. I'm telling you, the IQ in this game is pretty good. And I know a side by side comparison might show otherwise but shots like this just make me think "PS1 Ace Combat".
Couldn't it look like The Sky Crawlers + some fancy cool shaders on top, for better lighting/explosions etc?
I think you can use it (laser) too. But only once you've bought it and the Falken with the money you get from missions.Yeah, I already looked at the plane list.
Does this have a Project Aces logo screen before the title screen? I heard that Assault Horrizon doesn't have one.
I didn't know Access Games worked on this. Apparently they worked on Ace Combat X, which I am about to play, too.Yes, but it's after the Access Games logo, I believe.
Sorry for the double post. GameStop's new weekly ad has this for $29.99, new of course.
On another note, I've been playing Ace Combat X. My hands hurt. >_<
I'm really tempted to try out one of those PSP grips on eBay. Something, anything. :\:/ The PSP really isn't built for Ace Combat. Will be interesting to see if Vita is more comfortable. I feel kinda spoiled by the 3DS slidepad now.
End credits song is the best. I wish somebody would post it on youtube or something. I boot up AC Legacy simply to replay it in the music player.I am pleasantly shocked by how much I Like this.
Previous impressions are quite correct. If you were left sour by HD Assault Horizon and have the means to play this, pick it up. It's quite good.
Can't wait to play more, as I'm only 5 hours in, but it is much more AC than I could have hoped, given what we got just a few months ago.
Fucking awesome.

Nothing as bad as X? X overall was fairly smooth, but when the frame rate went south it got pretty bad.I just bought this today. It's really good. If you liked X or the PS2 ACs or Sky Crawlers it's worth getting. The only gaping flaw is the lack of multiplayer. There is some minor slowdown, but I've only got it to happen by flying through an explosion.

I have CFW installed. I should try that, but I pretty much already did all that I want to with X.^I always ran my PSP at 333MHz (CFW). Even straight off the UMD, the game ran fine.
I always wanted to try this games, so people saying that this game is really good, im thinking of picking it up.
As a newbie, are this games usually difficult? Is this one a game that as a new person to the saga can jumpo in, or do I need to learn some backstory or lore?
The effectiveness of the machine gun tends to very from game to game in the series. In Ace Combat 6, it is very useful, since the enemies have a big hit box and go down fast. Of course, that is if you can get the right angle. Also, some planes have better machine guns than others, but there isn't really a way to know until you use them. Ace Combat X, which I just played and shares the same team as this, had a much less useful machine gun due to smaller hit boxes and less effective bullets, oddly enough. Of course, it's worth noting that Ace Combat 6 has far more enemy planes to take down per mission than X. Also there is the customization system, which was in X and this game too?The big negative I have for this game is that the machine guns are pretty much useless until you unlock a propeller plane which costs a ton of money. You'll really only be using missiles for the majority of the game, which is a shame if you're looking for machine gun dog fighting. Not sure if that's how Ace Combat usually goes or is unique to this game because of the fast maneuver features.
Since you are new to the series, you might find the normal control method to be odd to use (in order to turn, you have to roll the plane and pull up). Each game usually has some tutorials to ease you in. There is a novice control method that is much simpler if you need it. As for the difficulty, I would say the games are fairly easy once you get used to them, even on the higher difficulties. The story is supposed to be pretty bare bones, so it shouldn't be too confusing. Just know that these games don't typically don't place on our version of Earth, so there are different country names to keep up with.As a newbie, are this games usually difficult? The contents of the review don't seem too harsh, but that score sure is. Admittedly, I haven't played the game yet.
Is this a harsh review?
This was the first Ace Combat game I ever played - I may have missed some references, but I had no trouble following the story at all. I actually thought it was pretty barebones - fight the rebels is pretty much it, with some fun dialogue here and there.
The fun really comes from the gameplay; I ended up staying on the normal difficulty for the entire game despite finding the beginning relatively easy. I started having trouble around 10 missions in, where you really need to start understanding the mechanics to do well. A few missions after that is where the game really clicked and I found the rest of the game really easy, but fun. Just actually completed the game on normal this morning, and just started a campaign on hard.

Reads pretty ridiculous to me. Complaints are:
- No MP is unforgiveable (boilerplate game review line)
- Textures look crap close-up (see: any other game in the series)
- 4 hour campaign (number only applies to a reviewer trying to beat the game in 1 evening)
- Hates the close combat button (wants the old games. maybe should try playing AceX)
- Infuriating escort missions (odd he would have trouble, but can again be applied to "4 hour review rush")
The reviewer is welcome to his own opinion, but it comes off as someone who had to marathon the entire game in one go, which would make that person understandably irritable. I can't imagine marathoning even the best of the series.
Well, there is legitimacy in the complaint of a lack of multiplayer since the PSP games did. Regardless, it isn't a very good review.I'll never understand the length complaint for these kinds of games. Do people just beat games and ignore unlock lists or something? There is a reason there are multiple difficulty settings, extra missions/paths to unlock and complete, parts and planes to purchase etc. And wouldthese 'bros' who are reviewing the game even PLAY the multiplayer if it was included? Seriously, I love these games to death, but I don't even play much of their multiplayer modes if they are available. Why are they even complaining about the lack of online modes when all they will do is just go back to their CoDs and Battlefields? I don't get it.
