[3DS] Ace Combat Assault Horizon: Legacy |OT| Better than Ace Combat Assault Horizon

They should remake AC04,AC5 and AC0 using the new game engine and release them as a HD collection with 3 platinums. I'd buy that right away. AC6 was OK, but not as good as the other 3, and the newest one is garbage.

I'd buy and play the fuck out of these. AC is my favorite franchise from last generation with SSX.

HD 1080p, glorious 5.1 PCM soundtrack, Trophies and oooooh I'm in heaven

Well, there is legitimacy in the complaint of a lack of multiplayer since the PSP games did.

But I think in a time where we are starting to see games without manuals, MP modes seem just as superfluous. I mean, if it's honestly a really exciting feature, sure. But I just can't see any of the audience for this game willing to buy it for MP, especially since it means needing two people in range with the same game.

Ace has no storied history of MP, so I never even thought to look if this one had it.

Well, a family member just bought me mario kart 7 for christmas, a game I aready have. This is a good chance to change it for this game and play my first ace combat :)

A little fluff between the ears never did any harm...
Will be using my gift card money on this game, woo! I no longer have a PS2 so can't play my copies of Ace Combat 4 and 5. Very excited. I haven't played 2 yet, so this works out. Now somebody just needs to make a Wing Comander or Freespace game on the 3ds.

After putting a few more hours into this game, I have to say that it's one of the better experiences on the 3DS.
The OST is amazing, the gameplay is rock solid and even the 3D effect gives you an advantage (by actually increasing your viewing space which few games do in 3D).

I want more of these on the 3DS. And I definitely recommend it to anyone interested in a good game for the system.

I got this a couple of weeks ago (its out in Australia and thus Europe, presumably).

It's just as someone said earlier - the game is a re-telling of Ace Combat 2. Which is my favourite in the series.

I just hope El Dorado music is in it later on.

The new control touches add a nice cinematic flair to the game, even though it could do without them. But if youre after the action/adrenaline style play, it certainly does it well. Some of the top gun dogfighting bits do get quite exciting.

I was sooo tempted to pick this up today, even took carried the game case around as I browsed the shelves at my local Gamestop, but then I put it down. $39.99 seemed so high a price....someone convince that I wont regret it. Anyone???

The game sold like 2000 copies per NPD last month.
This will be $10 new soon.

Your support won't save it at this point.

Seems like the naming they used for the game was a mistake. That and actually advertising or at least acknowledging the game's existence would have helped. I do hope I can find a copy after the holidays as that's when I had planned on picking it up.

I payed full price.

No fucking regrets. Definitely worth the price of admission after having spend a few hours with it when I just got it. It doesn't feel like a portable AC. It is an AC game.

Here are my two concerns:

Graphics and length.

Ive played the PS2 AC games, and though they looked amazing (for the time). The PSP games, not so much.

Ive read the game is short, like 4 hours or so.

Spending $40 for a 4 hour game is just not something I wanna do....but its AC....

Graphics and length.
You have nothing to worry about. Graphics matches if not at instances supersedes PS2 AC games (comes close to Sky Crawlers for Wii). I wouldn't know about short, because this game has a tendency to pull off a "one more mission" at you, not to mention it also has branching mission sets. I can tell you right now that I took more than 4 hours just to finish the game, and I'm not even done playing the alternate missions yet.

OOOHHHH....i love that.

I also got this amazing game some days ago, thanks to all of the people in this thread that recommend it to me.

My first Ace Combat game and im totally loving it.
The sound of this game is the best of the 3DS games. The music is incredibly epic, and the explosions and other SFX surround you (using good headphones with this game is an amazing experience).
Then the game is totally fun, the missions are like 15 minutes, and the combat can get pretty intense.
I have some questions though.
In the missions were you use allies... do they really do something, do they help? becuase they dont seem to do so (I use them to hear their dialogs in the story).
Also what parameters of the mission give you the mark (A, B, C...) to rank it? Is it speed? Finishing with no harm? Blowing up mpre things?
I usually blow all the things on the mission and yet I get usually C ranks. I only got an A rank in the first mission.

So, I played the first mission last night (tutorial, I guess) and holy crap at those graphics. Plane models look amazing, the explosions are lovely and have a real "umph" to them, and the one environment I was in looked gorgeous, the ocean, the sunlight reflecting off the waves, the glare off the nose cone. The 3D is amazing too, makes the game come to life.

Oh my god I want to play it now >.<;

Happy to see more and more people are picking this game up. It's easily one of the most satisfying and complete 3DS titles available.

HOLY CRAP!! Just finished mission 2 and got a B score, but OMG, that was hella fun. The attack maneuvers are so fun to pull off. When you have to hunt down the F14 Squadron, and get on their 6 but still avoid their missiles and guns, it has a great cinematic feel to it. Nothing more cathartic then sharp turning on an enemy getting behind him, firing off two shots, then flying through his exploding plane as debris scatter past your windshield. If the rest of the game is half as satisfying as the first two missions, then yes, this was money well spent.

I did have to turn down the 3D as my hands tends to move the 3DS involuntarily.

I agree. However, it's worth this price.

Yeah I checked that before posting. $40 is still more then I want to pay. I still need to beat TotA, Pullbox, Might Switch Force and Resident Evil Mercanaries (which I just got the other day actually. Saw AC on the shelf whilst I was there and was quite tempted) first and that's just on my 3DS.

The game is amazing and is starting to become tricky. I have smashed my plane more times that I can count in the mission where you have to destroy some bases inside a canyon.

I have some questions though.

Quoted again for people who have played the game.

Been considering this game recently. But I need to ask first, does this game require the touch screen to control anything? After Dream Trigger I've been weary of such a problem, being a lefty.

Nothing in particular I can remember. Certainly not during gameplay

Actually everything can be controled via buttons. The touchscreen is just for extra precision when locking on to enemies (so you can lock and fire without having to cycle through enemy targets). Other than that, no.

You can play it exactly as Ace Combat 2 on PS1, essentially.

L trigger for slowing, R trigger for speeding up.
X for changing targets.
Y for stunts/evade
A for missile
B for cannon
Analog for plane control
D pad up/down for map zoom
D pad left/right for switching from regular to special missiles

I just made sure to use classic controls or whatever theyre called, and use HUD view rather than cockpit or 3rd person view. Then you're good to go.

Once you get the F/A-18E then its golden.

Two hours in, doing the
Hunting the AWACS mission at night
and it soo much fun. Best AC game since AC 5.

Some posters said that the graphics were up to the PS2 title, Id disagree. Better than PSP for sure though.

*sigh* I like the 3d effect in the cockpit view a lot, but I like the hud view for the visual range. I wish they'd make a wing commander for the 3ds, Wing Commander had the best cockpit views.

Mission 22 is fucking difficult.

I need now one of those super speed planes if a want to beat it, so Im improving my scores in the rest of the stages to get money.

BTW how can you play the missions you didnt choose in story mode (alternate path)?

Also I love the cockpit view, and I also love how every plane has a different cockpit, little details like this make the game awesome.

Opera House stage music is fucking gorgeous. And the music of the missions in the other modes is awersome, watching some youtube videos I think they are the same as Ace Combat 2, can someone confirm this?

Is that the sub-and-chase mission? It's definitely possible without a faster plane but it does require rote "run ahead to a certain point" play that's just not reasonable the first few tries. A faster plane definitely helps. :)

You need to play through the game again and choose those other missions to access them later in free play mode. You start off new playthroughs with all of your stuff (if you beat the game) so you can power through the game again pretty quickly. (Multiple plays is probably needed to unlock some of the ships anyway)

At last, F22 overpowered plane just shit all over that missile. lol
And then came the final mission, holy mother of god, so epic. The mission, the music...
And then the credits WOW
Im having goosebumps.
One of the best 3DS games you can get right now.
Beat the main story in 10 hours, and now I have to beat all the extra missions and stuff. I know is a bit steep in price in europe, but its really that great, I recommend it.

Are all the rest of ace combats like this?
Becuase this one was amazing and epic.
I know Zero has amazing music but does the story of the other ace combats feel as good as this one?

Everybody has a varying opinion but most fit into the category of declaring either AC4 or AC5 as their favorite, AC0 as their runner up, and then 4/5 in 3rd. I think AC5 has the strongest story and campaign but some prefer the subtle approach of 4. AC1-3 are pre-PS2 and are kind of a different age with different problems. (The PS2 flightstick works with 4/5/0, btw)

ACE-X (PSP) is fun and has most of the same mechanics as Legacy but the graphics are clearly worse, it doesn't have the Y buttton maneuvers, and the controls suffer due to the nub and overall scheme. ACE6 (360) is not completely horrible but the story is a mess and for some reason the game is heavy on mid-mission resupply landings.

Joint Assault (PSP)and Assault Horizon are earth games (not Strangereal, the AC4/5/6/0/3DS universe). Joint Assault plays basically the same as ACE-X though.

Ive read there some ace pilots or something like that hidden in each stage and unlock different things, but for the life of me, even using gamefaqs, i cant find them in the stage. Or I dont even know if I already find some of them because the game never states this (only a medal of finding ace pilots in ech stage).

Can someone help me with this?
