3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

I just picked up my blue XL at GameStop.

I expected the screens to be big but... whoa.

Not sure if the 3D effect is improved or not, but the bigger screens definitely make it more impressive, imo. Build quality is way better than the original 3DS.

More pics of the red from you guys picking it up today! Not getting mine until like Tuesday. Will help with the wait. :)

Anyone want to post a screenshot of KH3D running on it?

Sure, gimme a minute. It's doing a firmware update...

Ahh it looks so beautiful. Mine's still charging as I believe in charging something fully before turning it on(don't know if thats just some fake myth though hah), I want to turn it on so bad. Really though, this thing looks really nice, I like it a lot better next to my OG(have both in red), cant wait to see if these pixel blah blah complaints really matter to me.

A quick question for anyone who has already done a system transfer:

Does the system transfer also transfer money/credit in your eShop wallet to the 3DSXL?

I have just under $50 in my eShop wallet on my 3DS (I stocked up on cards during a sale earlier this year) and I'm curious as to whether or not I need to use it all before doing a system transfer (when I pick up an XL later this month/next month).

This is my first XL system as I didn't pick up the DSi XL. Well, all that I can say is I will not be going back. I can't. Just a world of difference.

even going from the few days i had a 3ds before returning it, and going back to the ds screens....so tiny. Looking forward to getting a 3ds XL today or tmw assuming kmart still has them in stock.

No, you lose all funds in your wallet and access to Google.

I believe it will transfer up to $200.
EDIT: From the site, "The eShop balance from both systems is combined together. (Total amount cannot exceed $200 or the transfer will be canceled.)"

Very impressed by the built quality of this thing. No yellow tint or dead pixel on my unit, everything is sturdy. The blue is a little light for my taste, but I'll live.

Just got home with my blue xl. The original 3ds screen just looks so... un-useably tiny when they are side by side. The xl definitely had a much warmer screen than the original, but luckily both of my screens are the same warmth on the xl. No dead pixels or scratches, and the blue exterior is beautiful in person. People kept saying that pictures don't do out justice, and they are right. Really nice metallic look to it.

Just waiting on my little pikmen to finish the transfer, and I'll be in gaming heaven!

Thanks.
I wasn't aware Nintendo had updated their site with more detailed System Transfer info.
I checked a few weeks ago and there was no explanation of what would be transferred (other than your purchased games, obviously) only how to do it.

I just called Nintendo to ask for you -

Hi, whats the cheapest place to pick up the new 3DS XL? Im calling for a guy on NeoGaf.

CS (customer service Nintendo name Stacy) - What?

(I repeat my first sentence)

CS - What is NeoGaf, can I use it to get off?

Pardon..

CS - My husband just doesnt cut the mustard, haha, he's a pencil dick

Are you crazy, why would you risk your job?

CS - Sorry, you can buy our new XL at Walmart for 200$ + tax...(long pause)...You piece of shit.

I asked about the cheapest place.

CS - Can you text me a pic of your Genitalia?

*** At this point I hang up. Sorry dude, I give up on your question. I will never call them again.

Wait...what?

Idk. The guy just said you also get a copy of Steel diver so I said ok.

They've been running that promotion for a few weeks now. Buy a 3DS and get a free copy of Steel Diver or Pilotwings Resort. Supposed to last until August 31st, but I wasn't sure if it was applicable to the XL too.

Yes! I wasn't planning on buying NSMB2 for a while, but my fiance bought me it as a late anniversary present since she was away for our anniversary.

Now to wait for my 3DS XL to come in the mail! So nice. <3<3<3<3

yup! :D

It's not an entirely satisfactory replacement for the awesome packaging they got in Europe and Japan, but it will do.

Does the Steelbook case automatically come with the game? My fiance bought me the game, but she still isn't back from the store yet.

Or is it just some limited edition?

I don't know why, but it's really really hard for me to find and keep the 3D sweetspot now.

Just played for an hour. Some impressions:

- as mentioned above, 3D is harder for me to get a good, consistent view of. I had no problems doing so on the OG 3Ds

- DS games in stretched mode are as ugly as they are on the 3DS. I didn't mind them after awhile on the 3DS, so I definitely dont mind them on the XL. In other words, if you also got used to how they looked before, you'll love them as much as I do now.

- DS games in 1:1 are now playable, but I hate the black bars, and as I said I don't mind the look of them being stretched. Those who hate the stretched look will be thrilled though that 1:1 mode is now totally playable. In my estimation by looking at it, it appears to be about the size of a regular DSi screen.

- My 3DS games don't look worse as some have said. It may be a game-by-game issue, but I played Mario Kart 7 and NSMB2 and both look really nice. The real test will come later when I finally unbox Zelda and give it a shot on the big screens.

Has Nintendo said why they only added NSMB2 to the e-shop? Seems dumb to finally start selling retail games on the store but not also include all the older titles as well. I probably would have impulse-bought Pilot Wings.

One last thing, can't say it enough - Dpad games are now playable. Phewwww. No hand cramps after 30 minutes with NSMB2 (I can't seem to control it properly with the analog slider).

On my way now...cant wait to see Kid Icarus! Also snagging NSMB2 of course...but have to swing by the grocery store too lol...should've gone yesterday.

Question: And I think I know the answer

I did the system transfer, now I can just move the games from my old 2GB card to the new 4GB card using my computer?

I might of missed if this was already explained but how is system transfers being done by GameStop if you do the $100 Trade in for the old 3DS for an XL?

I was going to eBay my system but $100 is a pretty decent deal.
