3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

Ok last night I tried again with the same headphones, and I was able to get it to click in all the way. It is a hard click though, definitely doesn't feel like the normal fit.

So now I know that it works, but not well. Should I try taking it back? Does anyone else's XL headphone port work fine? As in not requiring crazy pressure to get the plug in?
Mine is the same as yours, hard to put in and hard to pull out at that deepest part.

Personally I'm not going to worry about it, it's not like a defect or something where it'll explode the next time I need to apply pressure, and the sound is fine too.

The first time I stuck it in it was hard to do (that's what she said) and it made an audible click. Subsequent times were much easier. Guess I just had to pop the cherry.

Ah okay well good to know that it gets easier with practice.

True, it's not going to destroy it, I just don't like my faith being shaken with a Nintendo console being less than 100% awesomely designed. Next thing you know I won't be able to set it on fire and drop it in a toilet and have it keep playing.

So weird! I was at my boyfriend's today, and picked up his OG 3DS, and my hands and eyes were like WTFFFF! I felt like I was holding some Gameboy Micro variant of the 3DS, it felt so tiny!!! It's insane! It just looked so cute and funny! Have you guys done anything like this? It's almost impossible to think I used to play my games on that. Another thing I noticed, the 3D seems easier to capture on the smaller screen. The 3D feels much more immersive on the XL because of its size, but the size of the 3D screens themselves make it harder to adjust, I find myself losing the 3D sweet spot a lot easier than with the OG 3DS, it doesn't put as much of a strain either. It doesn't bother me though, it's just a matter of getting used to it, but the ghosting that can be made more apparent now is a bit annoying. But yeah, looking at an OG 3DS is crazy after touching an XL for almost 2 weeks now!

Sort of... I went back to a friend's OG 3DS for a few minutes yesterday and had the initial "wow, tiny!" reaction, but followed by the depressing feeling that those little screens sure used to be a lot crisper than what I'm using now. : / It's still a trade-off for me, and certain games like SM3DLand simply look far better on the crisp screen IMO.

There were always framerate issues with the game on the normal 3ds. Mostly in elevators

ok doesn't affect me as I typically play at home <_<

Wow.

I am hoping I get a unit with warmer screens then!

The XL looks awful to me in that video. White is not yellow. The other one is too blue though. Nintendo needs to aim more for color correct. Neither of those two in the video are any good. I'll take the XL simply because it's bigger, but damn do those colors suck.

Like we ever see real white thing IRL. Sunlight is often very yellowish. So a yellowish white always looks way better than a blue white.

wait for the steam version for 2.50 cents...

I don't game on my computer. I use my laptop for college work. :l

In any case, I picked up Mercenaries 3D today after swinging by 4 different GameStops and managed to find it used. I'm trying to live with the fact that a lot of the stuff is already unlocked but I'm having fun with it.

So exactly what would be losing by not doing a system transfer?

Gamestop is making this impossible.
Depends. If you have digital games then you'd lose those, but if you didn't get in on the Ambassador Program and bought nothing then you'd be losing Miis, Street Pass stuff, gameplay logs, and other relatively minor crap you could deal with losing.

I got my XL charging cradle in the mail today. I can't believe they charge $26 with shipping and tax for a piece of plastic. I'm glad I got it, though. It makes things so much easier.

They wont' let you do a system transfer? I'm about to get mines from GS after work I hope I won't run into any problems

I got TONS of street pass data I don't wanna loose >_>

Are those generally reccomended for the 3DS XL? Do the screens get dinged up pretty easily? Gonna pick my system up next week at the K-Mart sale and get some free Theatrythmn.

They seem to come reccomended here on gaf and while I've only been using them for a day now they seem to work great, super easy to put on, no bubbles or anything and no issues with them thus far. If your looking for screen protectors I'm giving them my thumbs up for now.

Went out to get an iced coffee. That was an expensive iced coffee!

Those of you who have not already bought screen protectors, this seems to work well!

It even adds some space between the screens when closed!

Love it to death. I can't even look at the OG now!

I've clocked in 7.5 hours in Mario land 3d so far, amazing title

My HORI screen protector arrived but I'm still awaiting play Asia shipment of cradle and RE:R

I know some people here were debating whether or not to buy a DSi XL while they are stil available.

FYI, I bought one at Future Shop last week. They had a bunch of Midnight Blue ones. Came back today, and they were all out of DSi XLs except for a single pink one. Seems I wasn't the only one whose reaction to experiencing the 3DS XL was to pick up a DSi XL as well.

Also, I noticed they had a lot of Red 3DS XL but no blue. Makes sense since blue looks better =P

How come everybody is buying screen protectors.

I think out of fear of the screen scratching issue. Even though it's been supposedly fixed, in this thread people have posted pic proof of getting it again. I myself haven't had any issues, yet, but I wanted the piece of mind

Just finished putting on the screens perfectly and don't notice them at all, now I finally stop worrying about it

My internet security is WPA2-P, Encryption - TKIP.

When trying to connect I get the error message saying the security settings are not supported by the DS.

What do I need to change?

Yes, it works well and doubles as a quick cleaner. However a word of warning: I used a dark microfiber cloth between my white Japanese XL (LL) system. It seems one of the small white rubber stoppers may have absorbed some of the color.

Currently this is of no problem for Western units as they all have black interior and rubbers. Just saying that I consider the rubber material a risky choice. Notice how OG 3DS had plastic bumpers instead of rubber.

I picked up a red 3DS almost for free using Shoppers Drug Mart points. I love this damn thing.
I'm glad I waited for the XL to replace my dsi-xl. I just can't go back to the smaller designs anymore!

So, I took my 3DS XL Silver x Black today...
First impressions:
The screens are massive ! :-D
The lower DPI is easily spotable :-(

But now, I'm used to the difference of DPI, and the device is really enjoyable. Games are more enjoyable due to the bigger screens, the handheld is more confortable due to rounded edges, the triggers are better, the buttons are better, 3DS XL is better build, and mate case, even if it makes it look "cheaper" is actually better because no finger prints, and more confortable to touch.
Unfortunately, I have to wait 1 week to transfer content from my 3DS to my 3DS XL...
