I was serious when I thought this as well

I already have a 3DS but say I buy a red or blue XL next month and NOA launches Transparent in say spring 2013?

this would really suck... they need to promise all of us right now that they will never ever release a transparent 3DS XL there was really no reason for showing the insides for the tech talk they never opened a hardware up before

its not like they are going to open a Nintendo WiiU and show us its fancy blue lazorz

We have the best colors this time for launch of XL red and blue, are they satisfied nooooo, they want white, grey, and black... So we give them white, grey, and black for the holidays. They say thats not enough Reggie! WE Want TRANSPARENT!

In addition to the larger screen size and slightly greater battery life, the Nintendo 3DS XL has one other advantage over the Nintendo 3DS—a better anti-reflective screen.





Like previous Nintendo portables, the Nintendo 3DS uses an LCD screen. LCD screens have three reflective layers, and each one reflects and causes glare. In the case of the 3DS XL, each of these three layers was specially treated, reducing reflectivity from 12% on the Nintendo 3DS to 3% on the Nintendo 3DS XL. Finally, the screen cover pictured above covers the screen as a whole.



This was possible due to the progress of technology and a drop in manufacturing costs costs. Nintendo staff say that the cost of anti-reflectivity coats was too high to apply them in the past, but that the current manufacturing process and cost balance make them possible to use.



“Anti-reflection has been a topic every time since the Game Boy Advance system, but most of the time we had to give it up because of the cost,” Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, shared. Regardless, Nintendo kept an eye on the technology all along, hoping to use it when the costs worked out.
 
It certainly didn't help that they placed the OG 3DS screen behind a pane of glossy plastic. Seeing my face during loading screens is always a little weird.
 
Iwata Asks are always great read. It's fascinating how much work and thought goes into a "simple" revision like 3DS XL.

The dsi XLs are, duh. How could you actually think I meant two primary colors are childish? The sky and lava are childish!!!!!!!!!! :|

This is huge, in my opinion, especially when talking about a 3D screen. The 3DS XL realy jus sounds like it does everything better, and then some.

Given how some AAA games look I imagine they WOULD see the sky as childish. Lava's a different story though, nevermind BLOOD.

Ugly, yes.

If it was all blue or all red, that's another story. But this Red/Black hybrid shit they've got going is not for me. I'll wait for all white, or the transparent model if they decide to sell it.

The colors look bad. Like I've been saying.

The device itself is VERY attractive. That pale light blue and red are disti ct.y reminiscent of the childish "big bright shape" aesthetic cultivated by fisher price products.
 
Yeah. It's metallic and slightly shiny from what I've seen so no doubt it changes slightly given the lighting.
 
Ok I do t have it e to debate about the word pale. Would "powdery" be better?

It's a PALE boring blue. I don't know how else to describe it.
 
All this press on the 3DSXL really has me jonesing for one, whereas I was initially pretty lukewarm on the system since I own an original 3DS. However, the fact that the US is only getting Red and Blue is enough to stop me from buying one. They look like plasticky children's toys. Where's that cool silver color that other countries are getting?
 
Not a powder blue either.
Aside from the press pics which are awful, it looks like a rich shade of blue.

I'm not a fashion expert but I can safely say it's not on the light side of the shade chart.
 
I was thinking the transparent may look great from the open angle but when closed the bottom and top shell views could turn out to be boring to look at if all the circuits stuff are facing inward anyway

so red or blue? :(
 
That's awesome about the anti-reflective screen. I always hated that about portable systems. I'm sure we won't be able to play outside with it, but its better than nothing. Doesn't it have like 5 brightness settings though?

I can do you one better - I played both the blue and red models in person (posted impressions a few pages back). It's not that they're ugly -- at all -- they just come off as a little Fisher Price-y to me, at least on the 3DS XL. But the more I see the blue, the more I'm warming up to it. I'm sure I'll love it by the time the North American launch rolls around next month.

It's just a guess, but I'd wager this is a case of Nintendo of America being petulant little pricks because a retailer dared to complain publicly.

A very possible scenario. Whatever the truth is, it's a shame; Amazon is by far the best place to purchase video games. Newegg it is for the 3DS XL, I suppose.
