3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

Help me out guys. I'm still confused about the transfer system.

I have a 3DS with the stock 2GB card inside. When I get my 3DS XL my plan is to use it with the 32GB card I bought recently.

My original thought was to put the 32GB card into the XL and then transfer everything, but that only transfers licenses, and not the full games and apps right? Or does it?

If I have to use a PC to copy the games from one card to another, can I do that this week so the 32GB card has all the same files and folders as my 2GB card? Then when I do the license transfer, I can pop the 32GB card into the XL and it'll work?

First of all, if you have any photos or whatever that you want to copy over, then use your PC to copy everything on your 3DS SD card onto your 32GB one. Then put it back into the 3DS. Otherwise, you don't need to use your PC at all.

Remove the 4GB card from your XL and put in your 32GB one.

Start the system transfer. At this point, all your 3DS stuff will be moved directly onto your XL. Any DSi Ware will be put onto the SD card.

After the transfer, your XL will prompt you to insert the SD card from your 3DS. Do this, and it will copy everything (so, DSi Ware) onto the system's internal memory.

Put your 32GB card back in.

Done! Every single thing that was on your 3DS will now be on your XL. No need to re-download anything.

Yup. Just use your PC to transfer from 2GB to 32GB, then use that in your 3DS from now on.

When you do the transfer it'll prompt you to switch memory cards, and you're done.

There's no user interaction for me to "do wrong". You click through a few confirmation prompts, wait 30 minutes and it's done.

Now I've got it set up, the console is pretty nice. Star Fox looks much better.
I had this exact problem. Turns out you have to get the OLD SD card and switch it into the new 3DS. The instructions didn't say this to me either

edit, although you mention a string problem so might be different with you

The console tells you to move the SD card from the old 3ds to the new one.

I must've missed that then, there is one option where they ask for a choice regarding SD cards, I interpreted it as move everything to the new SD card

I guess that's related. I didn't switch the SD cards. I thought it was just the system copying everything over. The string thing is (I think) a result of the XL making a new folder for games and ignoring the old one already on the card, so renaming the folders fixed it.

I lost my DSi Ware saves I think, but I'll live.

I have a 3DS and will be upgrading to an XL. In my case, my 3DS already has a larger SD card than the stock one and I will continue using it in my new XL. So will I swap my SD card into my XL first or do the transfer first?

You'll do the transfer, then switch SD cards when you are prompted to.

lol hadn't played with my 3DS in a while and damn the game are pixelated as duck :b Mario Kart lost some visual flare with the bigger screen in my opinion, lower ppi made it look a lot slicker.

Of course it's nice to play on a sturdier machine and on bigger screens, but so far it seems a bit overkill.

You mean higher ppi?

I made the same ' mistake' . After that I tried to copy the old 3ds folder to the new 4gb card but the games don't show. Kinda sad, because Zelda Four Swords is gone now. Still can't figure out wth went wrong :/

Is four swords on the SD card? If it is then try going into settings and moving it over to the system memory. DSiware games can't be played off an SD card, only the system memory.

So, any idea when we should start seeing color shell replacements show up online? I want a silver/black model. After seeing the red and blue in the new UK NSMB2 commercial, I think they both look horrendous :/

Is it sad I was searching the internet for boot times and load times of popular 3DS games using different SD cards because I want to make sure I get a good SD card for the 3DSXL (I do not own a 3DS)?

I find the lack of videos worrisome, do people not care as much as I do about that sort of thing? I think that's the hard core PC builder/gamer in me...

Anyway probably going with the SanDisk Extreme 32GB Class 10 SD Card

Good enough?

cancelling my preorder for now. gonna stick with my regular ol' 3ds, and wait for a zelda edition or something 3dsxl (or a pink or orange one!)

Gah, if they have a Paper Mario XL that's designed like an envelope or something (with the red stripes on the outside, etc.) I'd be all over it. I'm holding off too.

Here is the comparison (not my pic)

I believe you can go into the eshop and look at your download history to REdownload Four Swords.

Not near my 3DS right now, but I'm pretty sure that's the case - as long as you had it before you can get it again.

I had absolutely no idea that this was even possible. Is it ok to ask what websites would typically supply such things and how expensive they usually are? I was pretty sad about the color selection coming to America, so I will absolutely swap to different colors if that becomes an option.

I'll preface this by saying that I've never owned a 3ds or any other Nintendo console really.

So I got the 3ds xl and Zelda and after playing for an hour and a half the low power light started flashing. No problem, I thought, I'll just finish the bit I'm on and then stop. A few minutes later the screen goes dark and then the power goes off.

I plugged it in to charge it up, powered it on again and... well, I guess I expected it to auto save it or something before the power went off. You live and learn. :-D

I really hope that color shells start showing up within a month or 2. I want a Silver or a Black unit :(

That UK NSMB2 commercial made the blue and red look disgusting

I have the same (16GB) type of card. Load times do improve. Also initial boot time is faster (compared with stock 2GB card). I don't have any numbers on me though.

Blue is beautiful!

Also...colour shells? You can remove the current shell ala Gameboy Micro?
It's not a feature of the system, but it's easy to clip off the top and bottom color shells of the unit (bottom one is screwed in though)

I highly doubt that Nintendo will make faceplates like they did for the Micro, but 3rd parties probably will. I just want Silver/Black :(

After seeing pics of Silver and white, blue and red are starting to look so good. My toys need to be vibrant, baby. VIBRANT. Also, f*** you Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Get out the way!

Never had a DS, really liking the XL so far :)

Small question though, is this d-pad behavior usual or is there something wrong with my unit? (sorry for the bad quality)
It feels a bit loose but not too terrible, but I rather get a replacement while I have the opportunity if there is an issue with it.

Thanks!

When you charge the 3DS, does it stop charging automatically when it's 100%? Meaning is it safe for the battery to leave on a charging cradle or plugged in all day
