Quick question: Will an iphone 4S's hotspot be enough for the system transfer? I'm trading in my 3DS toward the XL, and I was hoping it would do the job.

So for those of you who are current 3DS owners who upgraded to the XL, are you generally happy that you did? Is there anything that has made you regret your XL purchase or want to go back to your OG 3DS? I'm aware of the XL's advantages and issues compared to the OG 3DS, I'm just curious as to whether or not anything has made you regret your XL purchase.

nope. Better grip and design, bigger screen, nothing to dislike

when Nyko release their Power Pak XL it will be perfect

Just cancelled my Gamestop preorder. I'll pick it up at Target/Walmart that way I can easily exchange if I have any issues (My DSi had a dead pixel and Gamestop refused to do the exchange, I had to go through Nintendo).

Good luck. My Meijer store is only getting 4 units total. Be sure to get there early.

Maybe mentioned?

But I was reading on CAG and apparently some (or maybe all) GameStop stores are allowing you to buy the 3DS XL for $200, take it home, do your system transfer, and then when you bring in your original 3ds they will take $100 off the price for your trade-in.

This could solve the system transfer issue...

Don't think that has been confirmed. I remember reading in that same CAG thread that folks in the UK have had those similar experiences. I bet Gamestop would make you pay full price for it, then issue you store credit after you bring in the 3DS back.

I may just do the system transfer-trade in thing... $100 towards a WiiU is VERY enticing, but then my sis won't have a 3DS to play Animal Crossing on... :/

I think they mentioned specifically in the thread a "void and rebuy",but yeah, credit would suck.

Quick question: Will the 4G internet from an iphone 4S be enough for the system transfer? I'm trading in my 3DS toward the XL, and I was thinking of using my iphone as a hotspot.

id do a speedtest.net run on it. if you are at a 1/.5 ratio or higher, that would be plenty

iPhones don't have 4G. iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S are just names, nothing to do with internet speeds.

Huh. You're right, and I never bothered to look up if my phone had it. I just saw 4G in the corner and thought, oh that's nice I guess. Goddamn you AT&T!!

I still hope my plan will work, 4G or not!

If you plan on using 3G speeds for the data transfer I suggest you bring a lunch, coffee, and newspaper while you wait

The 4G on AT&T isn't real 4G... it's HPSA+ which is more like "3.5G".

AT&T still advertises it as 4G though.

But only the license transfer happens online. All of the content is tranfered via ad hoc.

Wait a minute. Are you saying that the only thing that requires Internet, is the 'OK' one system gives to another for the license xfer? My day's looking' brighter then!

The data transfer doesn't use internet, the consoles check internet a moment at the beggining and then a moment at the end, the rest is done via local wifi.

If it's 3DSWare, then it just transfers the licenses and you'll have to swap SD cards or redownload the software. DSiWare is transferred wirelessly due to its storage on the internal memory.

Anyone know how often and how many times you can perform a 3DS account transfer to another system? I read somewhere that you had to wait at least 7-days between transfers, is this true?

I was planning on transferring my 3DS account to my wifes 3DS, and then from her system to the 3DSXL. She doesn't have any purchased eshop games, but i've got a bunch that I don't want to lose.

You have to wait a week between transfers and you only get five transfers total.

Oh, man, I never even considered doing the transfer with wifi tethering. I just set that up with my phone and the 3DS connects fine, so now maybe I'll see about getting a 3DS XL after all.

One of my long-term goals is to find one of these fabled mom & pop stores that sell video games, use them exclusively, and thereby get them to sell me shit before the release date.

Willing to drive a bit, anyone know any around Chicago/northern Illinois/southern Wisconsin?

There are none. I live in the Gurnee area... the only thing that's like a mom & pop store is either People Play Games in the city or Videogames Now and Then in Norridge, and both of those stores focus on older games and don't stock newer systems.

Im sad. I really want to get a 3dsxl since I didnt get a normal 3ds.. But the region lock is preventing me from handing over my money. I was really looking forward to be able to play inazuma 11 compilation and other games that might not make it to NA that EU will get.

:( maybe some day

Arlington Heights here, and no, I've never seen one of those places. That would kick major ass though! Is that Norridge place near the HIP at all? I'd love to check it out.

Kind of figured that to be the case - not many mom & pop's of ANYTHING around except diners, and I'd certainly be suprised to hear of an electronics store. Alas.

Region lock is a huge bummer, no doubt. Also one of the things that has held me back as well.

One of my best experiences of the DS era was playing and enjoying the hell out of an import (Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan). It really bugs me that 3DS can't play imports.

I may buy an XL next week though. I'm still deciding between 3DS and Vita, but so far I'm having more trouble justifying the Vita because at the end of the day, I would want my handheld to offer different experiences from consoles. And yet, that Vita hardware is awfully nice...

whoah, is that Patapon PSP a custom job or an LE I missed?

From the banned in Nintendo site. A user sent in a pic from his local TRU (Toys R Us)

Important to note it wasn't stated if it was the U.S. but judging by the post I'll assume it is.

HNNNGGGH break the freakin' street date already, somebody

I was that happy with my white Japanese purchase that I couldn't bare to go back to my original UK model for Tales and Kid Icarus so bought a silver one too. No regrets whatsoever. Favourite handheld since the Game Boy Micro.

Now you are just rubbing it in.
