Dragon's Path was actually really good. While not as "original" as Abraham's Long Price Quartet it is still really well written and full of intersting characters. Looking forward to the rest of the series. I only wished that there would have been some kind of overview of the races with some detailed descriptions, because till the end of the book I had trouble keeping some of them appart and remembering what they looked like.

Despicable me was rather cute and maybe even a bit better than the first one. Although, like with most of those movies, very predictable.

I'm pretty sure I have forgotten some movies I watched over the last weeks, but since I'm already finished my movie goal it doens't really matter.

I tried really hard to like Gulliver's Travels, but I just couldn't get into it. Maybe because it has inspired so many other films and books and I just wasn't wowed by any of the stories. By the end I was just reading because i had already spent a great deal if time on it and I wanted to get another book on my list.

I have moved on to Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy. I am really enjoying it so far. The only Sanderson I have ever read is his Wheel of Time books. I am finding that his style is much better when not restricted by Jordan's world.

Film-wise, I really liked Monster's University. Finally, someone put some heart back into animated films. So many of them were coming out and they were just all by-the-numbers.

Man of Steel was entertaining for what it was, but it could have done with a little more character development and a little less destruction. I mean, how many times can Zod put Superman through a building before he realises that is doesn't hurt him (and vice-versa).

Grown Ups 2 was really disappointing as it was clear that the script was written on the back of a napkin while at the pub. Got some laughs, but they were ultimately hollow ones.

I was surprised that World War Z ended up as good as it did. Well, up until that ending anyhow. It was really quite a let down after some excellent, well paced and tense buildup.

As far as reaching the challenge, clearly I am not going to make the 50 books. Having a one year old was always going to make that a difficult goal to reach. I'm fine with it though. My goal is to reach at least 20 books, so I think I can make that no problem.

Film wise, nothing had really changed. Watching movies is something I do regularly as a way to relax on weekends.

However, I have found that I have tended to go for the shorter books rather than embark on an epic fantasy trilogy as I usually would.

The most positive thing is that I have been very conscious of when I am not reading anything. It has been very rare for me to not have a book underway this year. While I have not read as much as I would have liked, at least I have been constantly reading.

Overall, I think it has been a great experience and I will make an effort to do this again next year.

^ I was getting over 50 books a year already so no problem there but its really made me increase my intake of movies. It made me watch stuff I hadn't considered before .. movies from the 40's and 50s to be specific. Actually, I discovered I love Humphrey Bogart and crime noir movies. Double Indemnity, Casablanca, To Have and To Have Not, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The Big Sleep, Murder My Sweet and The Maltese Falcon are now among my favorite movies and before I started doing the 50/50 challenge I probably wouldn't have even bothered watching them.

I've read and watched more stuff this year than ever before, not even close.

I can't say I've really expanded my horizons, but I've definitely experienced some mind-blowing media.

Early on, I looked into some classics that I've always wanted to read, and I was definitely keeping my page counts in mind. No Game of Thrones style books.

After seeing I would hit my goal, I just started reading whatever I found interesting. I discovered a bunch of new authors and series that I loved.

I always read and watched quite a lot, so I don't think that the quantity of my intake has changed that much. But I used to re-read a lot of books, which I haven't done at all this year.

This makes me wonder if I'm gonna be able to particpate next year, because I kind of want to finally finish the wheel of time books and want to start from the beginning, which means I will read seven or eight massive books that I can't count.

Then again, I might finish this one earlier, so maybe I can get some of the re-reads into this year...

I read more than I read before starting this. When I watched a movie on sunday I almost had to force myself to watch it because I kept thinking that I could read something instead.

In the beginning I thought I would never make 50 books and I tried to go for shorter books. But in the end it worked out pretty well even with longer books.

I read Lolita because I was interested before and it kept getting mentioned in the "what are you reading" threads. Other than that, not really.

As I said above, I read way more now and watch way less movies.

I guess most of Beowulf went over my head, due to the language. A lot of killing and talking about other people's killings.

Heir of Novron was good, though I thought that at the end there were a little too many twists and turns to the plot. All in all this was a fun series though.

Argo was good but the lighthearted tone somewhat surprised me. I didn't mind it, but it wasn't what I expected. Some of the effects to create tension were a bit cheap.

Dichter & Kämpfer (engl. Poets & Fighters) was a documtary about four German poetry slammers. It was really interesting, the highlights being the individual performances.

Maria, ihm schmeckt's nicht! is a German comedy about a guy who wants to marry his half Italian girlfriend without anticipating the excentrics of her Italian family. There were some fun moments, but also a lot of stereotypes and at the end it was a bit to cheesy for my taste.

Only six more books in two months - I think I can finish this challenge! I read six new books since my last update - I concentrated on the book part of this challenge, so I haven't seen any new films this time (only rewatched some older ones).
I read Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood as a group read. I was really looking forward to this book but in the end was a little bit disappointed. I had problems with the narrative style and the story felt somehow slow. The ideas of Atwood were really great and therefore I couldn't rate the book with less than three stars but the story was just not that captivating.
After that I wanted to continue the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, so I started with Blood Rites. Not really much to say about it. It's another great book of this series and I really enjoyed reading it, especially since I learned more about Dresden's

and Murphy's private life. It's great how you learn more and more about the characters in every new book.
I also started with the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. Assassin's Apprentice was really captivating but I can understand that some people have a different opinion. Everything stands and falls with the main character Fitz - if you like him, you're going to love this book, but if not, reading this book can be quite boring.

I enjoyed reading about his everyday life and him growing up. But I have to admit, it would have been great if Hobb would have let us read more about his jobs as an assassin too.

And I finally continued with the Harry Potter books. I quit reading the books a few years ago because I just saw the movies. Now the perfect amount of time passed by to really enjoy them, so I borrowed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in a library. It's a children's book, but I liked it.
I also borrowed the last part of the Divergent trilogy (Allegiant) from a friend because I wanted to know how the story ends. I didn't really like the second book (Insurgent), so I had no high expectations for this one and I was right.

I totally didn't care for the characters, didn't like the new narrative style and there were a lot of boring parts I would have loved to skip.

Mistborn was great, I really like the magic system and world building. I am going to start on the second book soon.

All You Need is Kill was a nice little diversion. I liked the inventiveness of it and the way it just resembled a video game. Kill, die, respawn, repeat until you get it right and win.

I had heard Eric was really bad, but I found it to be quite entertaining.

As far as movies go, I was disappointed in most of the films I saw since my last update. The World's End was fun, but not as good as I expected or hoped.

The biggest disappointment was The Wolverine. Wow was that a steaming pile of shit.

Anyway, I'm going on holiday next week so I am hoping to knock over at least one book to take me past 20 with a month to go. I hope I can hit 25 for the year. That will be quite an achievement for me and give me a good target to beat for next year.
