I'm using a Fiio E17 for both AKG K701s and TripleFi Pros...I think those should be enough. It's a little unnerving as I'm hearing it from an SACD album as well :( Sucks if it's the recording...

If you're using K701 amped I'll say it's the recording. They're very revealing headphones and make clipping issues very obvious. It's a pretty common issue. Shame that it made it through to an SACD release, if that's the case.

Picked up a Superlux HD661 and loving it except for the clamp force on my head.

Are the wings/support made of metal? Might bend em a bit for a much permanent comfort.

GAF, I have a problem. My right ear seems to be shaped a bit differently, and I can't properly use my earphones. My left ear is fine, I can get that air-tight sort of fit, but I can't with my right. Which means the bass isn't nearly as strong. I'm using the largest tip size it came with, but it's still a no-go. I can sometimes get it to a good position sometimes, but it's loose and falls out of position easily.

Any headphones that have a similar design to these BOSE headphones? I refuse to spend $100 on these sub-par quality headphones, but the design is probably the best I've ever used. Extremely comfortable and fits perfectly.

edit: right now I finally got the right headphones to fit perfectly, but it took like 2-3 minutes of adjusting. Really annoying.

My ears are also shaped differently. I find comply foam tips to work great as they expand to fit each ears shape. https://www.complyfoam.com/active-s-series/

EDIT: Dynamite Ringo Matsuri beat me to it.

Whitehawk - check out comply foam tips. I've got the same issue as you and those will compress and expand to fill up your ear canal like a pair of earplugs

Thanks guys! I'll probably buy these.

edit: hmm, my earphones aren't listed on the compatibility PDF. I have a pair of Sennheiser CX 880s

I picked up a pair of Sony XBA-1's for 35 dollars on sale down from 80. How did I do, GAF?

Great : )

XBA-1 is the kind that does nothing wrong, but also nothing spectacularly well. As a single BA, the level of performance is still very admirable and definitely some of the best among sub-$100 single BA.

Yeah do that or find like a full-sized volleyball and put them around it. And when you get some extra money these pads will fit after a little struggling and are great.

My HTF600-S were in a crushing incident involving a chair so I'm looking to pick up a new pair of headphones (in addition to a new pair of the 600-S). I'm looking for closed headphones (semi-open would be acceptable if the sound leakage is minimal) with absolutely no clamp (my head is fucking huge). Most common use would be gaming. Any suggestions?

I've been toying with the idea of picking up some a set of DT770s but I figured I'd see if anyone had any suggestions that I hadn't given much thought to.

I second this. The mediums and smalls fit incredibly well in my ears, but the large get so tight they create a vacuum which results in no sound and my canals hurting.

So been using these for about a week. Very happy with them.

I've also noticed that they're great for movies/TV and gaming. I think because they sound fairly neutral...not sure if that's the correct term, but they don't emphasize the bass or anything like that like some other headphones I've had. Just straightforward sound.

I'd recommend setting them on something to stretch the headband a bit the first few nights, though. They have a really nasty pinching effect out of the box. Right on the top of your jaw because of how big the headphones are :lol

How are you liking the bass as "straight forward" as it is? I owned a pair for a week and found them so dry that I had no choice to return them.

...and yeah, those things are massive lol

Just got these Klipsch X7i for 99$.

Klipsch+X7i.jpg

A clear upgrade from the S4i I used for over a year. I never noticed that the iTunes match streaming music is so compressed, but it is clear as day with these guys. The ceramic buds and the flet cord are nice and gives it a real premium feel. I don't know if I would have bought them at 200$, but for 99$ they are the best in ear headphones I have ever had the pleasure of using.

Just picked up a pair of Grado iGi's. They are freaking fantastic. Fairly cheap in design and materials, but I'm not very hard on my stuff. The sound they produce is better than the Shure SE215's they replaced, and they're not even broken in yet.

Listening to some high bit-rate Spotify deliciousness right now and it sounds amazing. I think I prefer it even over my Sennheiser PC-350s.

I'm enjoying it. Even with electronic and hip-hop music that I listen to that has a lot of bass, it still sounds nice.

But that's just me. Always enjoyed everything sounding very neutral for lack of a better term. I can see why it'd be too weak for others.

Is there anything similar to this? I have tried numerous headphone designs but this type of ear cushion and design (over ear/open/plain?) is the only one that I found comfortable.

I'd love to use this but it was so noisy :( probably because my room is full of devices and routers everywhere.

I'd love for it to be wireless because I am LAZY and hate wires but if there is none then at least something with the same design and quality expected from Sennheiser.

Please guide me GAF.

I can't help but think I got a dead set... the bass was so bad and nothing but the stage was accurate to reviews/opinions... I need to showroom a pair, I guess.

Can someone with an iDevice confirm if I've lost my mind or found perhaps the greatest music app of all time?

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dirac-hd-player/id547650816?mt=8

I believe there's a free version as well. The app itself seems a little buggy which will hopefully be cleared up with a patch. But when it works it does something absolutely amazing to the apple earpods.

It makes them sound better than my any of my other IEMs (shure 215, mee 151, mee cc51, monster turbine pro copper) and m50, all paired with my Fiio E17. The app does not work with any of my other IEMs, only the earpods. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills so please someone indulge me and try this out.

The earpods now sound amazingly smooth with a very tight bass, phenomenal midrange and highs. You guys have to try this.

edit - found a video review that says the earpods using the app sound better than a Shure 1840. That seems like hyperbole but I don't have anything that high end to compare to.

So somehow over the Christmas break i think my sennheiser tx160 the wireless transmitter for my headphones ended up going in the trash! That's the only thing i can think of cause the kids stuff was everywhere and they were throwing lots of things away.
Anyone have any experience trying to just buy a transmitter or getting sennheiser to sell me just that?
I really like the small transmitter but i use the rs180 phones since we all like the open design better.

I was recommended the Koss Pro DJ 100 a little while back and I love them. They're a great pair of headphones, I use them all the time.

I don't really want them to leave the house though. I'm looking for a pair of IEMs to use as a portable pair. I mainly listen to some rock, instrumental hip-hop, and jazz-hop. Any recommendations?

If you do get the bass edition otherwise you will surely miss that mid-bass thump of the S4. Also consider the UE Triple-Fi 10, which sometimes drop within the same price range.

Okay dudes.

Gonna ask this question again.
Choices are:

Aiaiai TMA's.
AKG K167
Senns HD 595/650

I started off with the intention to buy the TMA's but after reading this thread (or the last couple of pages im reconsidering, I've always been a fan of Senns but noise loss with my last pair was really annoying as you cant just blast some music without letting the whole world in on it too.

Most of what I listen to is bass heavy, like garage, instrumental hip hop, dnb and dub...

Main reason I like the TMA's was because of the reviews (say they are good on the bass - although someone here said they dont cover mid tones very well), and of course because of the aethetics, they are just minimal and simple which I really really like.

Any suggestions to somethng similar but of better quality?

I'm looking for a recommendation for buying my girlfriend a nice pair of headphones because all she's ever used are Apple earbuds. I'm specifically looking for a pair that sound good and are stylish looking. My budget is ~$100 and maybe more, and I'm looking for headphones explicitly, and not earbuds. The thing is, she has a pretty small head, and although I think she'd appreciate great sound, I know she'd also want her headphones to have some degree of flair, and a lot of them are pretty dull looking.

I looked through the OP and I think the AD700s fit the bill, but judging from the photos, they're absolutely massive and would probably fall off her head if she so much as twitched. Are there any other solid choices in my price range that have some style to them? I know it's a bit of an odd/vain request, but I'm hoping you guys can help me out.

I think both the AKG and TMA would be optimal for those genres, so it's kind of a toss up.

So I want to be able to listen to music in my bedroom. I have been using my Galaxy S3, but would like to move to a permanent non portable solution. Is anyone aware of a good media player with a display (for looking through albums) I can buy to put on my nightstand to play MP3s? I want to have something I can plug a headphone amp into and leave on my nightstand to listen to my headphones at night. I cant seem to find anything but portable players and ipod docks.

I'm in the same boat. I own some relatively expensive in-ears that sound good in short bursts good but are really bad in many other ways (long term comfort, in-head echo when chewing, microphonics, soundstage, etc.). I have been tempted to go full-bore with customs like the JH-16 to see if that solves the comfort problem and kicks up the audio quality a notch.

The cost involved would also destroy my desire to carry them around with me, and if I'm at home, there's no earthly reason to listen to in-ears. Instead, I have used some earbuds that sound decent, like the PAA-1 Pro, MX980 and the Yuin OK-1, and it's not the end of the world if I lose / break them. The OK-1 was the first to break, and I've lost a pair of PAA-1 Pros. Another pair is on the way.

What are you currently using? I've found that going customs was the best thing in the end as I went with a number of expensive phones that don't sound nor fit nearly as good as a custom before just biting the bullet. If I were able to sell off my collection I'd easily be able to fund another custom actually :l

Which headphones would be a better buy? The Audio-Technica ATH-M50 ($100-120) or the regular Beats Solo HD ($200), I know the beats get hated on but I can find them anywhere and they are all I have experience with. Any other recommendations?

I listen to almost everything; Classic Rock, Blues, EDM, Rap, Country, Classical. The only thing I play my music through is my Iphone 4 and my laptop, if that matters. If the device I use it makes any difference I don't want to overspend. Does an Iphone "bottleneck" headphones? I typically download the highest quality songs I can.

Also, are there any wireless in ear headphones?

No, but I didn't buy them. Even still they were sold out on the official prefered US site for them, and the similar ones were also sold out (so much so it had an disclaimer saying they were backordered at the factory). There was supposedly 1 pair left on Amazon from a reseller which can be hit or miss if their is just "1" left. My sister in law ordered them for me though and it went through! It was an Xmas present as I put them on my Xmas list. I think she got her Amazon order in like a week's time. I asked because I figured I wasn't getting them since the site I linked was sold out, and I was surprised when my nephews handed them to me to unwrap!
