I should be living in Japan by that point working as an ALT so I'll let you know later. Obviously for me there would be no issues with flying as at worst I would have some domestic flight which isn't too bad price-wise. However I doubt I would be able to be part of the whole trip with you guys since it's during the school year.

looked this up, sadly JET is not recruiting any Indians at the moment :(

Try Interac. That's what I'm doing. JET also isn't currently accepting Czech citizens.

Yea, looked up Interac. I can apply for it once I get my passport. Should take a JLPT exam as well. I'm currently working else where but I want to give this a shot at least.

Did you have to undergo an interview?

Also, anything I should keep in mind?

japan don't want no foreigners teaching languages they want white americans doing it, it's like a lot of asian countries i believe, they prefer white americans to be foreign language teachers

also who is the best persona 3 character and why is it aigis

Well race does not factor into Interac and JET in terms of being disallowed. I mean sure certain schools may be a little hesitant but that's mainly because of complete lack of experience. Homogenous society and all that. But DO NOT lose your hopes of you are not a white American. You absolutely have a chance. It's your English capability that is the most important. Me, I may not be American but I pretty much grew up mostly in the States and English is my 1A language.

At this point I'm waiting to hear back from Interac but yes there will be an interview if my application is considered worthy enough. I don't have any recommendation really as this is my first attempt. I guess I'd check out the ALT GAF thread for people's experiences or even look up people on YouTube who are or were on the Interac program.

EDIT: oh uh, Yukari is my P3 Waifu so she's the best. I like Stupei too.

altho tbh i think saying white American in particular is inaccurate on my part, i think a lot of places just prefer a white person in general

which i am not, my skin is kind of tannish brown.

i dunno why i'm talking about this i don't wanna teach english anyway

Chet's Law:

As an online discussion about anime on GAF grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving K-On! approaches 1—that is, if an online discussion about anime on GAF (regardless of topic or scope) goes on long enough, sooner or later someone will compare someone or something to K-On!

i heard in south korea they basically only want white americans tho

This is kind, sorta, the case. They definitely have their preferences (American/female), and because their laws aren't quite geared towards that sort of discrimination as in the West, it can be pretty eye-opening. Just being British English, proved to be more a hurdle than I could have imagined. If you don't tick more of these 'criteria', I'd hate to think the stuff you'd have to face.

It's surreal, to see a raft of job-openings beginning with "Female only". A lot of it seems to be down to weird perceptions, as I found out when applying for positions over there. "A lot of people think that American English is the most accurate form of English", was something that was literally told to me during an interview. They seem to be pretty open about it in most instances too, which only makes it worse.

But do they really send you away just because you happen to be British or is there still some leeway? Because it would be really shitty if they did.

It's kinda weird that things like that still exist these days.

Depends on the school and whoever is in charge of hiring doesn't it?

I had cases were that definitely happened, yeah. I guess it's all relative to how much demand there is at any one point, because I certainly didn't find it difficult to find something, but there were instances were I felt my experience and other factors should have gone in my favour, but they chose another candidate, simply because of nationality.

It's not even conjecture, because the recruiters always told me this, after the interview process.

Like I said, it only seems to be nowadays, that they're even coming under scrutiny for this sort of stuff. Anecdotally though, it's rife.

btw did you learn Japanese to any extent? I want to know some details regarding the program, PM me if necessary

I'm taking lessons from a Japanese man who lives like 20 minutes away from me. I think it's useful as Japan truly is behind other first world countries when it comes to English and if you are planning on actually living in a foreign country I think it's only respectful to try and communicate in the language used by the local population. People will always admire a little effort even if they know your skills are low.

But yeah I'll send PMs from this point on so we don't derail this K-On! thread.

Nice, I had to self study, started in 2011 with a couple of books my english professor gave, wasn't planning it as a career option but I liked the idea of learning another language regardless of whether or not it is useful lol. At this point, I was told it could be a really good asset so I thought I'd make use of it. Let me know if you need help in the language although you should be able to handle yourself well with a tutor. That being said, I'm at a lower intermediate level so don't expect advanced level answers!
