60 fps is the minimum game should aim for.

After playing the latest and greatest 60fps should be a minimum 120 the standard and 240hz the best seriously if you say I’m crazy you have not played on a 240hz OLED screen it’s just glorious!!!! I cannot even imagine how smooth a 360hz monitor and higher would look in person.

I accept 60 fps as the minimum on a console, but for me on PC 120 fps is what the minimum we should be aiming for. If a game is locked to 30 fps on console, I will not buy it. For me framerate is part of the presentation. I cannot enjoy 30 fps. I can accept a minimum of 40 fps on my Steam deck.

I would love to see game developers take a break on eye candy...we are sooo much at the point of diminishing returns....and focus on optimization for high framerates.

i have a 360Hz monitor. i honestly can't tell the difference between 240-360.

I'm fine with a quality/perf mode because some games don't really need 30fps. It's like the myth that most old 3D games were 60fps. Bunch of liars lol, I grew up with early 3D and 60fps was a pipe dream.
Yeah and you were also likely playing those low framerate games on a CRT. This is something people often forget. CRT is far far far superior at handling 30 fps than any LCD.

My 4K 240hz will last me a while then!!!
yeah.

the reason i turned 360Hz off was my monitor seems to flicker a lot. it's not bad but it's noticeable. 240Hz seems to be solid. when i was setting up my monitor i was switching between 240-360 and i really couldn't see the difference. i don't feel like i'm missing out on anything by staying with 240.

on pc for me 60fps is bare minimum. i'll play a game at 60fps but if it can't manage then i'm not playing it. 120-240 is the sweet spot for me. any higher it's not noticeable and any lower it's chuggy as fuck.

Only those with extreme sensitivity can (I.e. esports gamers) can. It’s utter overkill for 99.999% of the people including the hardcores. I find anything past 144hz isn’t worth it to me.

try 120-144.

going from 60-120/144fps is a huge difference and totally worth it, imo.
I tried 120 for some games (especially online fps), and it's very pleasing and responsive, but it doesn't give me a visual pleasure, so it's only detrimental to the rendering quality. Outside the aforementioned cases, I would never sacrifice detail for more than 60 frames. It just doesn't compare visually to proper rendering detail.

The only game I can actually play at 360Hz is Valorant. I'm not great at the game but playing at 360 didn't do anything for me. 240 is fine and it seems most pro players run at 240.

I remember when Xbox One and PS4 was supposed to be the push for a standard 60fps across the industry, but it feels like we got less 60fps games during that generation than we did in the 360/PS3 era.
things like 60fps/120fps and 4K/8K are largely used for marketing on consoles.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
i dont feel sorry for people who game on 120fps above.

You are basically setting the standard too high , not worth it.

Yeah. Lets sacrifice every single aspect of our game - Lets make everything objectively worse. Lets cut NPC counts in half. Lets lower shadow quality, lower texture quality, eliminate ray tracing completely. Sounds great! While we're at it, lets drop the fucking resolution down to 540p in 2024, who cares if it looks like smeared Vaseline all over the TV screen. 300fps baby!

Lol

Framerate Warriors man, you've completely ruined this generation with your absolute nonsense.

The first thing I made when I got my new TV was to test Dirt 5 at 120 fps. Couldn’t tell the difference. Pleas don’t drag everyone to your lunatic framerates.

WTF…I talked about motion clarity resolution count too

I don't know why it isn't. The graphical fidelity between 30 and 60 these days isn't as large as it used to be ("oh wow, I can see 10 more blades of grass at 30 fps..."), so there is no reason for devs not to target 60.
The difference is essentially.... Sub 720p games vs 4K

Go play FFIV Rebirth on PS5 Quality mode, then switch to Performance mode and tell me there isn't a massive difference.

Its not just 10 blades of grass.

One mode looks like its been smeared with SEMEN all over the TV screen. The other is a super clear, sharp, crisp 4K image.

I’d love it to be international law that interactive media like games need to be a minimum of 60Hz. Quite often it’s games from the previous generation remastered and boosted to 60Hz on current generation that looks and plays fantastic. Demon’s Souls on PS5 is still one of the most beautiful games. Ghost of Tsushima, GTA V in Performance RT, The Last of Us on PS5 etc all look and play so good in the 60Hz modes.

But as long as 30Hz YouTube trailers and screenshots are used to market games, 30Hz is here to stay. On every generation going forward. Only mid-gen upgrades offer the chance to get consistently the best of both worlds, which is why I like them.

Which is why it needs to be illegal to release 30Hz games if I become world emperor.

The plethora of Performance modes on PS5, and Cerny calling 30Hz choppy when demoing TLoUP2 while promoting PS5 Pro to boost graphical fidelity on base PS5 performance modes gives me hope.

It's the MINIMUM for fluid gameplay. 40fps is the minimum - minimum, I can't accept 30fps at this point...
I can only accept 40 fps on a handheld like a Steamdeck or my Legion Go with Bazzite.

I have to admit that it's better than I thought it would be. It's probably my imagination, but the screens on those handhelds seem to be better tuned for lower framerates.

No

Upping the framerate costs more than just graphics.

One day you muppets will realise this not today though.

Solid 30fps is fine. I've played Silent Hill 2 in 30fps it was really jarring at first but after the initial shock I haven't thought about it in 20 hours.

Again Snake Eater was 30fps MGS2 was 60fps. Snake Eater eventually got 60fps Metal Gear Solid 2 will forever have shit boxy level design.

Oh, I know.

But it's the messaging from Xbox/Sony that is the annoying part. They were the ones pushing for all of this 60fps shit and preaching it like it's something that will be more common in games, yet we're still at a stage where we can't have it as the standard in gaming.

Always funny to see someone pretend their personal preference is somehow "objective". Doesn't matter. PlayStation gamers pick performance mode 75% of the time so your take is the minority.
