I'm up to midway season 3 in Breaking Bad, and Homeland season 1 totally destroys any season of this show so far. The BB family scenes are not only annoying, they are fucking dexter bad with god damn Manjaw somehow more annoying than Deb. There is too much similarity with dexter and BB for my liking. Walt and Jessie and Saul are great, but the rest of the cast and their plotlines are pretty damn meh. At least in Homeland, the patsy wife is played by a fucking hottie. Plus in addition to Damien Lewis, you have Claire Daines' performance which destroys absolutely every actor of either sex. Her performance has been God Tier, almost Ian McShane level which is tops of all time.

And I thought crawl space fans were crazy.

I really enjoyed Homeland but I am not a fanboy yet. It is just that Breaking Bad has a ton of really annoying and pointless scenes that I fucking can't stand. That drags the show down for me. The first 4-5 episodes of season 3 that I have just watched have been fucking terrible. Only the strong late endings of the past few seasons have kept me interested or I would have dropped the show by now.

Yeah, Season 3 does have a rather poor first half. It actually gets much better in the next couple of episodes (Episode 7, titled 'One Minute', is my favourite Breaking Bad episode ever).

Hari is right though. Homeland s1 is better on every level than early Breaking Bad.

First two seasons, sure. Season 3 of BB is the best season of TV I've ever watched as it aired though ("rather poor" my ass), so. And the domestic stories of both shows are pretty equal, I think. Skyler's more interesting than Brody's family but Homeland has bigger gut punches.

The Ian McShane comparison is totally fair. I wouldn't argue with someone who put Danes over Cranston either.

Homeland needs to grow a pair in its second season.

When it came right down to it, the show didn't have the balls to pull off a fully satisfying finale. And this perplexes me, considering it's the spiritual sequel to 24, which was one of the most audacious shows ever made.

I'm not saying 24 is better than Homeland, but Homeland could take a few cues from its predecessor as it moves forward.

Solo, just out of curiosity, what are your favorite shows of all time list? From here, I can tell it includes Sopranos, Deadwood, and Breaking Bad. What Else? They all on the same level?

Yeah I think Cranston has earned a spot amongst the top television actors ever in that pantheon, whatever you think that may be.

Once the actor becomes synonymous with the character, that's when you know, in my opinion.

Cranston is up there, but I can't really put anyone on the same level as Ian McShane. McShane's performance was just legendary in every way. I can't imagine how tough it must have been to pull that off, especially with the complexity of his dialogue coupled with having to deliver everything in a non-native accent. I've never even seen any of his other work and he's still my favorite actor just from that performance

This was really funny for an award show. I don't watch award shows for who wins, I watch to see how funny and/or awkward they can be, and this one made me laugh.

No one will ever top Ian McShane in Deadwood. I don't even think it would be possible. But as far as current TV shows, I like Danes performance better than Cranston. Not saying I don't like Cranston, I just like Danes a little better. Probably because of the writing. Danes' character was up and down so she was forced to show a much wider range of acting to pull off the character believably. That is why crazy characters always win awards in general. Walt is always either being an outright asshole or silently angry. Not the same range in the writing for his character compared to Danes.

Not really surprised to see Homeland win, the press has been pretty in love with it. I'm fine with that, I do like Homeland a lot. Though if it were up to me it'd probably be a coin toss between Boardwalk Empire S2 and Breaking Bad S4.

Yeah that's a tough comparison. It would be really interesting to see what would have happened if Breaking Bad had finished its first season.

Gilligan has said that their original plans for the rest of the season were really rushed and not that good, so he's actually thankful for the strike for giving them time to regroup and plot out S2 better.

Mad Men deserved to be snubbed. Hope S6 reaches S4's heights, but I'd be happy even if it matched S3 in quality.

Please stop trying to impress me with your auteur flair, Mr. Weiner. I just want good stories and believable characters again.

Homeland is good, but it follows the same structure as 24, just with better acting.
Not even the same concept. The comparisons to this show is silly. Stop it gaf.

Homeland the spiritual successor too 24? Lol

Jack Bauer would've literally solve more shit then Danes in one day.

Uhh...it absolutely is. Aside from both being intelligence/espionage themed, the guys who adapted Homeland were well-known for their work on 24. (Howard Gordon worked on 24 from the outset and was its last showrunner.) It's the same way I'd consider Mad Men and Boardwalk Empire spiritual successors to The Sopranos.

Just because the concepts are different doesn't mean they bear no relation to each other.
