A Mississippi madman apparently angered over a custody dispute admitted to murdering eight people Sunday, including a sheriff’s deputy, in a series of shootings.

Cory Godbolt callously confessed to the killings across rural Lincoln County after he was taken into custody.

Godbolt said he planned to kept wrecking havoc until the police killed him, but he “ran out of bullets.”

He said he was ready to die for his crimes.

“I ain’t fit to live, not after what I done,” he said. “Not in y’all eyes, not in nobody else’s eyes. But God, you know, he forgives you for everything.”

Sickening how calm he was confessing to this. RIP to the victims. Hope this guy spends the rest of his life in jail thinking about what he did.

And this is the main problem that I see with some religious people

"But God, you know, he forgives you for everything.”

I once heard someone saying "I can do whatever I want, it's God's job to forgive me" which is disgusting

People on the interwebs tell me this is a very minority opinion but ive run into "ive been saved, no matter what i do im still saved" attitude in real life on several occasions.

in order to be forgiven, you have to be sorry and ask for forgiveness. he sure as hell must not have been sorry when he took those innocent lives.

That's terrible! Hope their families can find some peace.

This is kind of beside the point but it's really tripping me out how badly written that article is.

Jail time is too good for fuckers like this. Bullet in the brain, kick him into a shallow grave.
He should be erased, he shouldn't have time, he shouldn't be allowed to think about what he did. He should be ended. Taxpayers should not waste their money keeping shit like this alive.

No one should solely blame religion for this, but obviously we're going to see a lot of the same people who blame religion for the acts of terrorists blame anything but religion in this case.

I mean sure, maybe there's some truth to that notion, and maybe he wouldn't have done this if he wasn't Christian, but I don't see the practical solution to the religious part of the problem.

Sensible gun control is a practical step that can be taken. Take laws like we have here in MA and make them federal. I appreciate that guns are currently too deeply ingrained in American culture to attempt any sort of a ban, but that doesn't mean you just let anyone and everyone get whatever gun they want, whenever they want it.

Lock him up for life in a dark cell IMO.

Well, after reading that I'm not sure how anyone would be able to use the argument that if you don't believe in a higher being you're bound to have no morality since nothing matters. Turns out it's quite the opposite actually.

Gods everlasting forgiveness was a mistake when you believe you can get back into his holy graces after murdering eight people

Something really has to be done about domestic abuse in this country. It is leading to so many deaths. Watching that video he seems to have issues with his wife and because others intervened he decided to kill 8 fucking people. And this sure as hell was not the first time he got violent. And he puts it all off on "G_d", unbelievable.

Terrorist.

If you're going to label this terrorism like what we saw last week then you would also have to label domestic violence terrorism. They are not the same.

Oh, God forgives everything? I must have missed the part in the bible where hell was closed down and turned into a giant water park. RIP to the victims.
disclaimer i have not read bible, feel free to correct me

That is one poorly written article.

Going by traditional interpretations, God forgives anyone who is truly remorseful and accepts Jesus as their savior.

More info.

AP: "Police say 8 dead in Mississippi shooting"
BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) — Authorities in Mississippi said Sunday that a suspect is in custody after eight people were killed in a shooting, including a sheriff's deputy.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokesman Warren Strain said the shootings occurred at three separate homes Saturday night in rural Lincoln County. Two of the homes are in Brookhaven and one is in Bogue Chitto. The area is about 68 miles (109 kilometers) south of Jackson, the capital.

Strain said investigators were gathering evidence at all three locations.

Strain said charges have not yet been filed against the suspect, who was arrested in Brookhaven, and that it would be "premature" to discuss a motive.
Godbolt said he was talking with his wife and members of her family when somebody called authorities.

"I was having a conversation with her stepdaddy and her mama and her, my wife, about me taking my children home," the suspect says on the video. "Somebody called the officer, people that didn't even live at the house. That's what they do. They intervene.

"They cost him his life," the suspect said, apparently in reference to the slain deputy. "I'm sorry."

The suspect also said he did not intend for police to capture him alive.

"My intentions was to have God kill me. I ran out of bullets," he said. "Suicide by cop was my intention.""

Mississippi is all out of death penalty medicine right? So I'm sure hanging is still on the table. As well as firing squad.

People need to just shoot themselves. Ego makes them want to take people with them. Pathetic.

I heard so many times on this shitty God would have forgave me excuses employed by selfish people whenever it's convenient.

Switch Back 9

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
Exactly. Sadly no one will call him this because he's not middle eastern.

Eye roll.

Great contribution to the thread. This isn't terrorism. Doesn't matter if he's white.

That's Christianity's whole kick. Makes me laugh when religious people drone on about morality and blah blah. I can basically do whatever I want, and if I'm genuinely sorry on my death bed then it's all good.

Death is exactly what he is looking for

Presumably God can tell when you're doing it out of fear of death vs. when you're sincere.

Oh, okay. But surely many turn to religion based on their own mortality? Thanks for the info. Not trying to cross examine you. It just seems there are a lot of gangsters and bad guys out there trying to game God based on scripture, like finding metaphysical loopholes for their souls. Many of them wear big crosses or sport religious iconography tattoos. The cynic in me says its part of a complex because the biggest villains try to buy absolution from the church - a penny for your sins, etc. A mutually beneficial arrangement maybe at the expense of actual decent people. The Christian in me prays that God has his own criteria ;)

Edit: Yikes, praying that God doesn't forgive absolutely everybody seems a bit unchristian of me. Catch-22s everywhere!
I actually do consider myself Christian. Obviously not a very good one, tho.

I just don't understand.

Why kill eight innocent people because you're having problems with your girl? Plus on top of that want to be killed by a cops.

Just blow you brains out and be done with it. Don't kill innocent people because you're too coward to do it yourself.

Shit like this pisses me off.

Because suicide probably wasn't Macho enough for this entitled mad man.

Sad he got everything he wanted. He says he wanted suicide by cops but I bet he doesnt regret getting out of murder alive.

1 John 5:4-5: For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world — our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

1 John 5:11-13: And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.
Hebrews 6:17-19: So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain...
Jeremiah 32:39-40: I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their own good and the good of their children after them.
